  1. or it could be tire whine or wheel bearings. Since it only happens between 103 and 116mph I wouldn't worry about it unless you plan on traveling that speed on a daily basis and holding it there. If it were happening at a slower speed then I'd be concerned.
  2. Geeze, here we go again.... I remember back in the late 60's a store somewhere in the south ran out of T-paper. A local problem, and they reported it on the evening national news. Everyone in the US ran out and stocked up on toilet paper, and we really did have a shortage..... Where's that Sears Catalog???
  3. You added to the list MIke. Fill us in on the details when you get them. I don't think you'll have a problem getting the front waranteed MILEAGE......WARANTEED(y/n).......DOT DATE.......REPLACEMENT DATE
  4. I just tossed two Yamaha/Shoei's in the trash that were 10 years old. Not because I didn't think they would no longer protect the wearer... they were simply too small for my noggin... and the liners were glued in, filthy, and it looked like a cat had slept in them... into the dumpster they went. I think this 5 year rule is a marketing gimmick to enhance helmet sales. I also think it's a parachute for the helmet industry when it comes to liability. Fiberglass deteriorating? Give me a break. I'm in the boating industry, and we have FRP boat hulls that have taken a much more exposure and physical abuse, that are close to 50 years old still going strong, with no end in sight, then any helmet out there. When a boat is scrapped the hull is considered non-biodegradable and treated as such. No one knows just how long they will last, but it's a lot longer than 5 years. The jury is still out on some of the newer materials such as carbon fiber, but I bet they'll fair as well. Some of the plastic abs helmets will probably not last as long, but will probably absorb shock better than glass. So my feeling is if the helmet is stored properly, and crash impact free, it's useful life goes way beyond 5 years.
  5. HE LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back JB....
  6. That does look like a way to go. The 1stGens already have an equalizer set up. Wonder why Yamaha didn't do that for the 2nd's.....
  7. She's a beauty......
  8. Well, thanks everyone for the feedback. I went ahead and popped for the pump.... Now all I have to do is figure out how to pay for it. I hate these sellers that have to use a payment system other than what's offered by Ebay. I left a message on their phone.. Calif Company... and will talk to them in the AM. Yeeesh!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. One of the things I didn't get with the '99 was an air pump. I found one on Ebay. Anyone else use this one?? Good..bad...ugly??
  10. Yup... had the same problem on the '91. Just didn't feel natural with the foot setting flat while it's directly below my butt... The Plus in that position it took a little away from the overall knee to foot distance. So off they came and I installed a clean set of MKI controls. The early MKI's peg position have some adjustment back and forth, not so the MKII's.... Actually I've done the swap on all my MKII's even if they came with pegs.
  11. Would 47,000 on a '99 be too many miles to switch over to MC Synthetic oil? Whacha think??
  12. You can call it anything you want Annie.... just not 'Late 4 Lunch'.... We'll keep a light on for ya....
  13. Ya gotta be quick when dealing with a 1stGen'r......
  14. Yep, it's my ride and I don't see any need to change. Despite what your saying the R1 calipers center perfectly on the MKII rotors. No rubbing of aluminum whatsoever. Swap out those old style FJ calipers when you have a chance and give it a try. Adding R1's to MKII's has been around for a few years. It's not a new mod. There have been a few done by members of this board. You may belong to another board, but this one, and the info available on it, suits me fine. If there was as big a problem as you discribe, I'm sure it would have reared it ugly head long ago. So far not a wimper... PS... I'm nobodys Grasshopper.......
  15. Runing R1's and don't have a problem... No rubing and the bike straightline stops every time.... with standard linked set up and MKII rotors... If you know anyone who's experiencing rubbing I'd suggest they check for warped rotors. Also the MKII calipers have the same size pistons... L&R... inside/outside, and the pad size is the same as the R1. The backing plate is different. The R1's do have different sized pistons. Smaller and larger. Which gives a much better feel when braking.... Maybe with the FJ calipers you might need a thinner rotor, but with the FJR you do not...
  16. :sign20:Rode it down to the end of the block and back.... and almost dumped it 4 times.... and that was while going straight.. It's gonna take practice...practice...practice..... No Doc I don't need another bike...... Probably ride 'm both Dan. The '91 is set up to yank a trailer and will be my tow rig... The '91 gas door has a chrome edging from Ventureline Thom. Is that what your seeing?? Per the catalog the '91 has just about everything that Venture line offered in '89 and then some. There's a couple of pieces that aren't in the catalog but probably appear in later years. That piece over the trunk lock wasn't offered in '89.... Thanks for the nice remarks everyone....
  17. LOL.... I paid just a bit more for the '99 than that '87 sold for at auction...
  18. I wouldn't go out on a limb, and buy any stock on account of me... Lemon Fresh Pledge. Sam's Club....
  19. Still 6... minus one.. plus one. I think my next project is going to be getting the 87 back together and running. I had it running great once before, and then got sidetracked. All the plastic is there and mint. Should make a nice one. Yeah, that's a nice thing. I don't think I'll be hunting bling anytime in the future.
  20. Just for the heck of it pull the speedo cable out and then ride it again. That should let you know if it's the speedo.
  21. Attached are a few pics of a new pair of Stable Mates. A '91VR, and a 99RSV. The '91 has been around a while but zero riding time due to 'issues'. The '99 was added last Wednesday but it had to wait a bit before coming off the trailer due to there being no room at the inn. A spot finally cleared yesterday, and the '99 is now tucked in to it's new home. Finding the '99 very difficult when taking off from a stop and not find the foot pegs where they should be.... old habits are hard to break...., plus I'll need to figure out how to widen the bars to be more comfortable. So far no warts have appeared, but will keep a sharp eye out for any signs of them showing up....
  22. OK, Got it. If the head light down't work properly it's either a bad bulb or the CMU... I gotta headache.... Dingy, Where do you find time to write all these long disertations on Venture systems and still work on your project??? OK, I bet you don't sleep....
  23. I think what happens is the high beam is a direct connect for safety reasons?? So you will always have something no matter what. Even if the CMU goes bad. Maybe what happens is the CMU, when it detects a bad low beam, will light up that blue or white square light on the dash. I had the dim low... geeze sounds like a chinese dish.... on the '83 when I first bought'er. I just adjusted the beam down and used it that way. Then I found a mint '83 dash on Ebay and swapped them out. Problem gone....
  24. I don't think the high beam circuit goes thru the CMU. If you had a dim low beam, and the high beam worked, it would be the CMU. I'd check switches, conections, and the bulb. Sometimes a new bulb can be bad.
