  2. Man, that's a helpless OS feeling when the dreaded lace reaches out and grabs the shift arm. Happened once. Never again. Now I tuck the laces or wear the boots....
  3. Geeze, can't we resize these pics so you don't have to scroll a half mile to the right in order to read any comments that follow.....
  4. You move to where there's a few curves, and you might wear 'm out a little quicker Lowell.....

  6. I have two Nolan Flips. One white and one black. Two years ago I wore the white one to Ft Collins, and the black one back. 100+ degs in both directions and didn't notice any difference. I can see where there might have been a difference at low speeds around town, but at highway speeds they were the same.
  7. Nah, nothing ever dies on this board......
  8. I knew Porche was involved in there somewhere. Here's a site that does a great job of recording the history of the Harley 'Nova'.... http://www.bikerenews.com/AntiqueBikes/CodeNameNova.htm
  9. D-A-M-N..... DUDE!!
  10. I think you already own the best bang for the buck on the market if money is an issue. Parts are still available either via Ebay or your dealer. Plastic is repairable and will last as long as it's maintained, and accessory upgrades, although limited, are still around. i.e. Progressives, AGM batts, tires... Second gear is always an issue, but not all 83-'85's have a bad second gear. High reliable miles are very do-able. Ignore a bike and getting around the block is going to be a problem. All bikes are going to need wrenching, even new ones.
  11. Ok, so it runs at that temp. I'll take your word for it. However, I still haven't found anything to substantiate those temps, and I've looked. What temp would it have to be for oil water mix to seperate and the water to 'boil' off.....??
  12. If it's as bad as you state...for both of you, I gotta think there's more going on than the helmet. Sorisis, or even head lice maybe?? I know it sounds yucky, but it's a possibility. I'd see a Doc on this one. You might have criters in the helmets, or even a shared scalp condition.
  13. I had a car battery once that checked out great on the multi-meter, but when it was load tested it croaked. Internal short. The battery dealer even thought it was good initially, but the load test proved us all wrong.... He also said he'd seen it before, but it was rare that a battery would take a charge, give the right volts, and still die under load.
  14. 200degs.?? Man if it gets that hot we'd better start making them water cooled.... Where'd you find that info about the final?? I'm always willing to learn...
  15. I agree with the leak in the sensor, but I really doubt the final temps will get up to the point that the absorbed moisture will boil off......
  16. How often are you servicing the final. Sounds like you're doing it everytime you change the engine oil?? Or did you get the milky lube just once after running a couple of years?? (Personally I only change out the final lube every couple of years.) If it was just once it might be that you're in a very humid area and the finals do breath. Air expands when hot from running or just sitting in the sun, and then sucks in moist air as it cools. The moisture will be absorbed into the lube as it sits, and doesn't go away the next time the final heats up again. It's a cycle. Eventually the lube will become cloudy from the moisture in the air. So it might be the humidity in your area that's doing it.
  17. I know each state does things differently, but in California if a trailer...or for that matter any licensed vehicle.... has sat around for over 7 years without any DMV activity, it's written off the rolls. A bill of sale is all you need to get it registered again. Back taxes and penalties are no longer an issue.
  18. Picked up a set of rear eyebrows this afternoon at the local dealer so I'm good to go. They come in pairs. One to show and one to go....
  19. I'm not a big fan of the fishtail look. I think it's a east coast thing. Turn downs or slash cuts are what I'm really looking for. There was a set of slash cut's on Ebay that I was interested in, but it just didn't feel right so I passed on the bid. I'm looking for something that has a 'rumble' and not a 'bark'. I've had MAC's on my 1stGen's and really like their sound. If I could find something that sounds similar I'd be a happy camper...
  20. I'm sitting here thinking, how in the heck can someone hit the bottom front of an engine in a pot hole?? The forks bottom out at 5.5 inches. The tire would have had to have blown to get that pot hole edge close enough to cause any damage other than frayed nerves.... How deep was that sucker anyway??
  21. I think I fixed the ring. Tried some of that liquid ABSwelder on the split and it got tacky, so went ahead and soaked it up pretty good, squeezed the ends together, and put some rubberbands on it to hold it together. This morning I removed and gingerly tried to break the split. It held. So it's look like all I'll need is the eyebrow. If no one has a spare in the stash box I'll just go to the local dealer and order another... If they do come as a set, I'll have one in my box that I really don't want to get rid of.....
  22. If it ain't broke...don't fix it.. Sound to me like it ain't broke...
  23. Thanks for the link. Didn't even know that was in there. Wish it were when I first wrestled with mine.
  24. The lens ring on the rear right hand turn signal split and the eyebrow popped off onto the front lawn. Must have happened when putting on the cover?? Anyway the GK was mowing the lawn this morning and the mower ate the eyebrow... Not a pretty sight... Lawnmower kill?? Looked up the parts numbers and it looks like they sell the turn signal eyebrows as a set. Not real expensive, but I only need the one. Probably the same for both rear blinkers. The ring is a little more expensive... plastic of course.... guess that's why?? The part number for the ring is 42X-83363-00-00 and the eyebrow set is STR-4NK58-30-00.... at least I hope it's a set. Anyone have an extra ring and brow laying around they no longer need??
  25. Stared in 'Rebel Without a Cause', and retained that image for 50 years. He was unique....
