  1. For those of you that may not know, that 'twinky' looking thing that sits in the valley under the carbs is the only other place besides the water pump seals, where oil and water are seperated by o-rings and seals. Not a real expensive fix. Cracked heads and blown head gaskets are areas you don't want to think about.
  2. Europe.....
  3. Yeah, you're probably right, that's why I suggested a MKI clutch assembly... They do have the springs..... Do you know if the clutch was 'disc'd' from the git-go in '85 or was it in 86 like the MKII's??
  4. I think it's coil vs. disc springs. Here's a thread with info. V-MAX CLUTCH
  5. Sell it, and you'll be sorrrrry......
  6. WOW!! What a deal. For $50 bucks I'd gamble too.....
  7. Yeah, I asked him about those at the BBQ. He said the jury's still out on his new set. Besides, I'm just not real sure I like the 4 hole'r exhaust look??
  8. Thanks Don. I think that may be the case. I found a couple of youtube's on them. I was wondering with the baffles if they might have been a little more of a mid range rumble....
  9. Anyone have a set of these on their scoot? I'm looking at a set on Ebay, but need to know if they're 'Nasty Boy' loud. Better yet, does anyone have a link to a sound bite??

    Insurance cost

I originally went to State Farm because they had the rest of my biz. I was quoted $860/6mo. for 15/30 PL/PD, the legal minium. I guess what they were telling me is they didn't want to insure a MC... So I ended up with Geico, the best rate I could find. Progressive was a close second. It must be a Texas thing. I had two bikes actively insured with Geico here in California, , the '83VR and '91VR, for 100/300/full coverage for $450/yr for both. When I dropped coverage on the '83, and added the '99, the premium went up $50 bucks to $500. Probably works out to $200/$300. There's also a multi-bike discount that comes into play.
  12. Here's what I found Randy. http://www.hinsonracing.com/ Looks like they are more into racing products than building them for cruisers. I've been wondering if instead of going to an aftermarket, take a 1stGen MKI basket and R&R. IT might be quieter, and it'll have the springs instead of a disc?? I'm not ready to try it, but maybe it could be an option for someone who is at wits end.... ??
  13. There's a couple of different styles that you can find on Ebay. There's a new one #220607068769 that I haven't seen before, but it looks like it could be a winner. I have a NEP on the '83 that I picked up off Ebay. Cheap, simple and effective. The type with the bar that spans the controls is a joke.
  14. When I got into it with my '83 I didn't have time to be checking the tach. When it stops pulling strong hit second.... in a 1/4 you may not even need third...

    WTF

    I agree......... !!
  16. On Ebay they usually go for around $150. Pinwall always seems to have there stuff priced higher than the rest of the world....
  17. I've got bad knees, and what I like about riding is the wheels are my legs. I can run, cut, and climb just like I used to..... I'm young again... I'll ride until I can't get in the saddle anymore, and someone physically ties me to a recliner.
  18. The 'C' is a California model. Refers to the carb (smog) requirements. May be nothing more than the required decals. Either will work for you.
  19. "The day he buys it...and the day he sells it." Is getting old and coined by someone who probably was in over his head and couldn't afford the boat in the first place.
  20. Break out the snow shovel Erv. We have rain predicted thru next friday so it should be rolling over you this weekend. Had half a mind to take the ride up there, but now I think I'll pass... IT'S ALL THE VOLCANO'S FAULT.......
  21. That's a great idea. I have an inline regulator on my compressor, but never thought about turning it down lower than the 40psi for paint spraying. I did buy one of those 'cute' little pumps off ebay and it was a waste of money....
  22. If the page address has an HTTPS: at the begining, it's secure. So far a lot of us have used it and I haven't heard of a complaint yet.....
  23. On a 1stGen there isn't much choice in aftermarkets. Jardine's and MAC's are it, and I'm not to sure if either one of them is still making them. MAC was but I haven't talked to them in a while....
  24. I don't like it, but everyone else does....
