  1. Ya know, I just don't understand why people have to be plugged into information 24/7/365. I get enough off my desk top, and when not on it I'm not afraid of missing something. If a phone has good coverage and can make a call and receive a call, what else is necessary. Plus spending $200+ bucks a month is damn friggin' ridiculous. We have an AT&T family plan, 3 phones, 500 roll-over minutes a month, unlimited texting for the oldest kid, and it's too much at $85.00/mo.
  2. EARTHQUAKES.........
  3. Maybe the Harley style doesn't have the tips. On the Krome Werks website the Yamaha's do.... Oh well.... If they would have been Yamaha slip -ons I'd been all over them....
  4. Don't they come with end tips??
  5. Or a dead 7 explosion....
  6. Any chrome MKII fender tip and medalion will work. They show up on Ebay occasionally.
  7. My guess is it's the battery or connections. Unlike the 2ndGens, I've never read about a 1stGen ignition switch going bad. Don't forget to check the stater relay. It might be, depending on how often and far you ride the bike, an undercharged weak batt. Try jumpering the bike with a good charged batt. Happened to me once. Started the scoot and rode up to the gas station. Took care of business and went to start it again, and it was deader than a door nail. Called the wife and she brought me another batt, did the swap, and all was good.....
  8. Just for 1stGen'rs info, the rubber gromet that the washer sits on has a crush sleeve in it, when new, to keep the gromet from getting smushed. They're easily replaced, but unfortunately disappear without notice when removing the cover. Without the crush sleeve the screw pressure will break the tab off. Replacing the tab can be done by yankee ingenuity. Aluminum. Scrap abs plastic. Form a new one with Plasti-??. If you have a cover that is missing the sleeve, and hasn't broken yet, it's a lot easier replacing the sleeve.
  9. Tell him that if he gives you $400 bucks you'll take it off his hands. My '87 came naked with mint plastic, an engine that after a tune ran like new, and only 39,000 miles. $450 bucks.... Somebody's looking for a sucker. Don't let it be you....
  10. DYK, Kuryakyn also makes a set to fit the ISO grips. http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/IMID/2777
  11. Yes....... The sync will sometimes affect the idle...
  12. The right assembly runs $54 bucks locally. I suppose if you searched the net you might find one for around $37 + shipping, but I usually find that when an internet dealer has them priced cheap they pad the shipping. I was hoping to find just the material and replace it, but no luck... They have the replacement foam for the 1stGen grips, but I guess they figured 2ndGens will never wear out. I can find leather covers for around $15 bucks, but I do like the feel of the OEM grip material.... Thanks for the suggestion, but I've been down that road. Thinking.... The left side cost a lot less. I wonder if I could remove the cover off a new one and install it on the right side???
  13. Thanks for all the suggestions and the help. He ended up selling the bike. Grandkids.... Yeesh!!
  14. Thanks Hulk, but I was hoping to find someone with a grip in the US due to the cost of shipping down here from Canada. If nothing shows up, and you haven't changed your mind about selling it, I'd certainly like to reconsider...
  15. Does anyone have a right side throttle grip they want to get rid of. The '99's is just plain ugly. Too many twists on it. The left side looks great, and would like to find something in about the same condition. The right looks like it's shrunk and pulled out of the chrome ring and the ends are curled up. Attached are a couple of picks. Anyway hoping someone may have a grip laying around after putting on some Kuryakyns.
  16. I'd like to see someone 6'6" try and do that. The problem is getting your butt low enough to get under the thing. I gently layed the '83 down right after I got it, and I did use the technique, but the bike didn't go all the way down and just came to rest on the case and saddle guards. I had to really strain to get it up. If it had gone all the way down it'd still be laying there.....
  17. I think Buddy Rich is making a set of stainless??
  18. Looks really nice, but I think you'll need to add the ball attachment for the linkage hook up like on a heel/toe. While we're on the subject....maybe?.... Yamaha had a toe shift for the RSV, but it's been discontinued. If anyone is lucky enough to have one, could you measure the length from the pivot to the pin, center to center. I'm wondering if there is a difference in the length from the toe section of the heel/toe which is 6.5"
  19. He now has no choice. A previous owner removed the injection system.... 32:1 time..
  20. Usually the only way the kill switch can go bad is they aren't used.. a use it or loose it situation... and the contacts oxidize, or it's worn out... I've never seen a worn out switch.. I'd suggest putting it back together and going down to your local Radio Shack to pick up some contact cleaner spray. Spray the 'H' out of it and work the switch back and forth. Should take care of the problem, if it's dirty. If it's worn out I've seen entire right hand assemblies on Ebay. Just because, what's the switch not doing??
  21. No Problem... That's what this board is all about. The slower throttle response is probably due to the diaphragm material being a little thicker than the OEM material, and not quite as responsive. I've never been a big fan of the replacement phragms, and wonder if they don't limit the distance and speed a needle will pull out of the jet?? But.... some movement is better than no movement.... and the price is a whole lot better than OEM...
  22. Best advice I can give is 'Don't stop'. Actually you will start to get the feel of the bike over time. It is a learning experience. The hardest thing I've found is to not over react or over correct as the 2ndGens don't respond like a bike that's more agile. It's designed to gobble up the miles, and do it well....
  23. Double check to see if you don't have a vacuum leak on a diaphragm seal. Sometimes those puppies can pull out and get pinched when installing. If you're not pulling that needle out far enough you won't get enough gas though a carb at high RPM's. And that may also be the case if the phragm rubber is thicker than OEM's. Just a thought..
