  1. Sounds like a good case for a V-Max Final....
  2. When runing 75 out on the flats I'll get 38mpg on the '83. 5th gear/4000+rpm. Slower, and in the twisties, using 2nd-3rd- and maybe 4th, I'll get 50mpg. So yeah your mpg will get better, but who wants to do 55mph on the interstate.... 32mpg is still too low. Check the choke...
  3. Herb, check the choke linkage to see if the rods are coming all the way out when the choke is completely off..... I've seen a few posts in the past where this caused poor milage because the choke was still partially on when the lever wasn't....
  4. Herb... Think LOTTO.....
  5. Here's another '03 on Ebay with a unigo trailer. 2003RSV #130412302710
  6. Maybe buy a half dozen and toss 'm after too many parts have fallen off.......
  7. I'm gonna do that.... as soon as I win the Lotto.....
  8. Unless the seller knows the history of the motor, and can verify that the 2ndGear problem has been taken care of, he's really sticking his neck out. OR he's just guaranteeing 2nd not to be DOA. I think $199 for a 1200 motor is too much without the repair. 1300's go for around $350 to $450, and because of the shipping costs the sellers don't get much action nationally, and generally have to deal with a local pick up market. I just bought a '91 1300 w/50,000 motor off Ebay for $150 plus about $75 bucks in fuel to pick it up.... and I was the only bidder....

I received this via Email and did forward it to some of the folks in the address book. Then figured it might be something that everyone on this board might find very helpfull. NEW CPR
  10. Maybe you should call them about it???
  11. And Rocket.... Consider this.... the '97 ain't a 1stGen...... Not quite sure what it is, but it ain't a 1st.....
  12. You did good Rick.....
  13. So the '97 and the 83 take the same cables?? Interesting. Actually if that's the case and they are built for the 1stGens, the catagory at the top is sorta confusing as it states 1997 and older....
  14. Don't get offended Rich. It happens every time anyone asks a technical question. You have to wade thru 3 to 4 comedy responses before getting to the meaningful replies... They're just trying to be 'good ol' boy' friendly... I do remember seeing posts about this subject several times over the years, and there didn't seem to have been a definative answer. I think I'd toss a good sync at it to see if that'd help, and as long as it just goes 'pup' instead of 'ka-pow' I'd live with it...
  15. Check the choke linkage to make sure that the enriching rods are able to come all the way out. A partial choke will really screw up the milage. Also Sea-Foam will clean out the carb jets, but it won't make the fuel any more effecient. MOF after running the first SF mix the plugs will probably need to be changed again... Also sounds like a good sync is in order...
  16. If your battery is an OEM type wet cell there's not a whole lot of amps in reserve. With the fan on, hitting the brake lights, head light, and runing lights on, it put's a hell of a draw on the spare amps. Plus if you're listening to a tape, it'll be close to fatal. Especially when turning off the motor, and all those things still sucking amps. And turning off the motor will stop the coolant circulation causing things to get even hotter...not cooler. The temp guage will climb very close to the red zone, but the fan should kick in about that time, and it'll fall back down a couple of needle widths. But ya gotta keep the coolant circulating by keeping the engine running. You might also invest in a DEKA AGM battery from Bohanon....
  17. Just make sure they'll fit a 1stGen..... Nice lookin' '91 BTW...
  18. Anything on the bike that's clear and shiney..... Windshields, bling, plastic....
  19. I've picked up a couple of really nice complete MKII front ends off Ebay for $65 + Shipping. Total was about $90 bucks. That's everything except the calipers and wheels. Triple tree, axle, air lines.... Used one fork set to do the conversion to the R1 calipers on the '83 MKI before I sold it. The other is destined for the 83/84...
  20. Dang you're lucky... Mine won't run for days... Lemon Fresh Pledge and micro-towel are the only things that ever touch any of the bikes.
  21. Just about all the gremlins associated with the head light are the result of cold solder joints in the CMU. The '83 had the problem of an intermitant low beam, and the warning light going on and off, but it had a solid hi-beam. So, since I did so little night time riding I just left it on hi-beam which by-passes the CMU circut and adjusted the beam down. Eventually I found a nice '83 dash on Ebay and swapped them out. Problem solved...
  22. Same thing happen here locally. Last night a Crotch Rocket, with a 19 year old at the helm, hit another bike and died from the injuries. It was on a stretch of road that was known for a lot of MC street racing. Stupid is as stupid does....
  23. Well that's making a silk purse out of a sows ear.. Nice job!!
  24. How does it not cover the key slot???
  25. And.... It doesn't take a lot of fluid to get the paint too bubble up. MOF, very little. It may have happened when the mechanic was replacing the caliper. I've seen a dot the size of a period and the end of a sentence raise a spot the size of a pea. Personally I think the mech beat the cr@p out of the bag when he had it off to service the caliper. He could have set it on the ground wet with fluid. Also bumped and scrapped it while it was sitting there...ergo the scrap.. Also you keep saying the front reserve was full. What do you mean by full?? Half way up the sight glass is all it should be. Same thing for the rear reserve....
