  1. I'm about ready to mod my '99 with the R1's. Is it just a plug and play situation or is there a rotor issue? I did it on my 1stGen '83, and had to replace the rotors, so just double checking to see if the stock Gen2 rotors are compatable with the R1's??
  2. So far here in NorCal we've had one of the mildest summer I can remember. Sure we've had our spurt of 100+ deg days but for the most part they've been down in the 80's. Our AC bill is really gonna be low. So they'll probably try to raise the rates...
  3. YEP..... I guess I should add that I don't adjust the ride. Because I'm so petite I keep the presures at max and the rear dampner on 4.
  4. Plan on cool weather all the way down... I'd stop before going into SF....
  5. I just spray mine with Pledge and wipe it down.

  7. That's what I was planning to do until Rocket gave me the heads up. If it ever starts to come off give K&N a call....
  8. The K&N filter that came with the '91 when I first bought it had a very soggy oil soaked foam seal. The filter cleaned up well, but the seal was toast so I put the it on the shelf. While talking to Rocket I mentioned the bad seal and he told me that K&N would warantee it. Their filters do have a lifetime warantee. So I sent them an Email offering to buy one since I wasn't the original purchaser. They replied and sent me a new seal free of charge. They even picked up the shipping. They now have a lifetime customer...
  9. Holy Ratfeathers!! So much for relying on something else to take over good old common sense....
  10. I'd replace the tire. If it had been somewhere in the middle of the tread it might be different, but you're talking about a part of the tire that flexes a lot. I donno, but with my life on the line why take chances.... Confidence in my tires isn't something I need to think about with everything else going on around me.
  11. Buying a 1200GS and bumming around Alaska has always been a fantasy. The dream is still there, but the 1200GS has been replaced.....

  13. Hmmm, ketchup on ice cream... Nah just there to add some artzy fartzy color... I am kinda partial to peanut butter, miracle whip, lettuce, on sour dough bread though....
  14. One thing you might check is the load rating of those 12" tires. Even if the axle rating is 1500lbs it still does mean the tires will handle it. Plan on the weight of the RSV to be in the 900lb range. Plus the weight of the trailer and you might be right at the max GVW. I use a trailer very similar to the one in Monte's pics. 6x10. Bought it outright for $750 bucks. Use it more for dump runs than hauling a bike, but it multi-tasks very well....
  15. Got a PM from Rick that he was passing though the area on Friday night. So what better place to take him for dinner... Leatherbee's Ice Cream....
  16. That's about where I'm at with the '99. I just ran the first4me tank through it and averaged 29mpg. 90% freeway. I haven't done anything to it yet, but plan on syncing it shortly as it has a pretty good buzz going on in the grips which usually means it's out of sync. Maybe do a poor mans needle mod, and reset the idle screws. Hope it improves somewhat... Otherwise I'll be back on the '91 for any long distance touring...
  17. I just add 3qts and then dribble in the last part of the forth qt. until the level in the sight glass gets to half. How much?? Danged if I know, but what I do know it's perfect....

  19. That's really nice. I just make sawdust and save it for spreading beneath Harleys when they visit....
  20. I've done it, but it takes a little coaxing.
  21. Go get a spritzer bottle full of soapy water and spray the 'H' out of the tire after you've pumped it up to spec. Should be easy to do on the center stand. Start looking for big bubbles or streams of bubbles. Don't forget to spray it in the schreader valve.

  23. Actually it just stopped working... gradually. So I knew it had a leak. Took it over to the Firestone Store to have it charged. They reported two leaks. One in the Compressor and one of the valves. To fix it?? A grand. I don't think so.... Went to another repair shop recommended by my son-in-law. He said they all leak a little, charged it up, and replaced one schraeder. $60 bucks total. Firestone has lost any of my future business..... Should I stop by and tell 'm where to stick it....??
  24. Dang... That's a nice looking scoot....
