  1. I don't know it the 2ndGens have a brightness adjustment for the dash, but one thing to consider if they don't would be night riding. You're gonna hate that dash when it gets dark....
  2. Yours may have the 6 coil springs, or it may have the disc spring. Just depends on whether the Barnet conversion included the presure plate. Either way it's pretty straight forward. No surprises....
  3. The '85 trunk would be the simplest, but hardest to find. The '86 and up's need the subframe replaced, and when you do that the saddle bags may not mount?? There have been a few industrious individuals that have swapped out all of the 1200 for the 1300 luggage, but it is labor intensive.
  4. An International Driving Permit (IDP) translates information contained on your driver's license into 10 languages so that officials in foreign countries are able to interpret your license. An IDP supplements a valid government-issued license--it does not serve as a replacement for a license. If you are stopped by law enforcement, you will most likely be asked to produce both your IDP and your official driver's license. The United States does NOT issue International Driving Permits to foreign visitors, so you will need to obtain this document before traveling to the U.S.
  5. Go over to your local Home Depot and pick up a couple of those twist-lock adjustable aluminum paint roller extensions. Put one across the back between the loose gromets. I just get finishing nails, heat them up, and stick them into the plastic end piece for tips. This'll keep those loose tarp ends from flapping around. Take the other and screw... the plastic end has threads....a 2"x6"x6" board... drill a hole in the middle of the board to snug fit, it doesn't have to be perfect.... cover the board with a towel or padding and place it in the middle of the cover with another 6x6 on the bottom. I use the nail end type to make cockpit tent boom covers on my sailboat. Works great.
  6. That's something I would have liked to have seen years ago. Even wrote them about adding that feature, but nope, no dice. I haven't tried but I wonder if (-reserve) in the sort might work???
  7. Smart owner. Has the looks of a Harley Bagger and the performance of a RSV....
  8. Who's the bike going to be for Annie? Quickstep? Are you thinking that if you make it to MD2011 you could ship your bike over, and then find something for Alan here?? I'm just wondering since we have a lot of multi-bike owners, someone near your port of entry on the east coast might have something you could borrow??? Hey..just a thought....??
  9. http://www.racetech.com/
  10. I gotta go check mine... Another thing I found curious is with the bike idling, and standing behind it, I can feel the pulses from the exhaust damn near 10 feet away. Couldn't beleive it. Never had that with the '83. 2-3 feet was about it. Could this be because of the ECS??
  11. 1983 VR. 6'6"/350#. max pressure on the fronts (14) and the back (71), damper set at 4. Progressives with half preload. fork brace. Stock windshield. Avon Venoms. No buffeting and tracks like it's on rails....
  12. I was just poking around the web seeing what's available in trailer hitches for the RSV. When I went to the VentureDad site off Google it's no longer there. Then if found this post via board search and it's no different when I tried the link.... What gives???
  13. I tried to find it by googling, but couldn't. So... Nope... didn't read it.
  14. OK all you graphic artist types, we're looking for a new logo for the Cody International T's and Patches. Here's an example of what we came up with for the '09 Round Up.. Now the planning committee would like to get some fresh ideas..... We're burnt out.... In one month.. 10/14... we'll pick the best of the best. http://www.cast-aways.com/codypics/black.jpg
  15. I just got through posting a thread on this subject with some 'howto' pics. I looked at the link above and really didn't like what I saw. Sanding leaves a rough seperation line between the black and silver. Not sanitary enough for my liking. However I gotta add that if the fins are already black there's not much choice, but in my case I picked up a set of side covers off Ebay from a '99 which are all silver. Now I'll still have the mint OEM's stored away if I ever want to go back. Take a look
  16. Yep, I'm aware of the sensor Earl. Thinking of just picking up a 2ndGen final and swapping out the gears if I decide to use it in the '99. And those are the first items I plan on attacking. Damn those K&N Air Filter's are expensive!!
  17. Thanks for the feedback Earl. The best I could do with the '83 was 50mpg in the twisties. 38mpg out on the slab buckin' wind in 5th. The '99 is the one that concerns me. The first tank through it was 29mpg. I haven't done anything to it yet, but right now it's worse than a horse eatin' oats.... Of course that's about what the milage was like on the '83 before I started tweeking it. I have a V-Max final sitting on the shelf. Not sure which bike I'm going to put it in, but I didn't want to make things any worse if it ended up in the '99....
  18. SOLD OUT...
  19. Thanks Steve. You got it... Follow the link in the first post to the Classy ad and follow the payment instructions.
  20. Got the Paypal Joe. Thanks,
  21. MAC's are no more. After the last group buy I'm all out of pain and suffering..... Bob, got your Paypal. I'll have them in the mail in the AM... Thanks. Then there were 2................
  22. I think it's an east coast thing. I can't remember the last time I've seen fish tails out here on the left coast, but to each his own... Beside the only fish around here are the catch'n'fillet type....
  23. Way back last year we had a group buy on fork braces. To get the price break I had to buy 50 braces, and ended up only moving 20-25 to the group. Nothing like the first group buy where almost 70 were sold. Since then it's been one here and one there. I have four left with one's that's been spoken for. Only 3 are available. So.... anyone thinking about replacing their OEM brace shoot me a PM. Here's a link to the Classy ad. Once these are gone it's going to be a while before... if ever... there'll be another group buy.
  24. That is really interesting. Wonder if it could be done to the basket gear?? Can you emagine what kind of market someone would have if they could develope a successful process??
  25. Wes, I had the same problem with the first Nolan. If you put the quick release together and then put the loop over the strap between the helmet and the fat part of the release it'll be secure. The fat part will not go thought the loop. Took me a while to figure this one out. I gotta add that that's what I did on the '83, and so far I haven't had to use the helmet lock on the '99, but if the locks the same way as the '83 it will secure the helmet.
