    Wow!!!! I just replaced mine and finally got to drive a little at night up in Nevada. There's a reason why they put a dash dimmer on the rest of the 1stGen's.... Out in the boonies without street lights, and only having the head light to point the way, makes having a dash lit up on high, kinda cut down on what you can see. Which brings up another question. Will the dimmer work on LED's??

    I did the Jason mod to the '83 and really couldn't tell any difference in performance. Rode with it to Ft Collins, and rode back home without it. 1100 miles each direction. No difference in gas milage. When I got back I put it back on because it gave the bike a little attitude and got rid of the sticato idle. It gave the motor a little lope which I liked. I'll do the mod on the '99 when I get around to it.

    Actually it took a long while to get the '91 to stop leaking, but now she only acts like a Harley once in a while, and purrs like a kitten. Nothing wrong with the '99 'cept it sucks gas like a horse eaten oats.. I haven't layed pixie dust on it yet... or it'd purr too... Been to busy buying do-dads for it....

    Don't think you'll ever have that problem. I called MAC a couple of days ago and even though they have 1stGens on the website they aren't building anything for stock. So it's just if they get an order for 10 or more... and after the hastle I went through on the last group buy I wouldn't touch it again....ever... 1 year from the order date until delivery. Jardine doesn't even have them in their catalog any longer. So it's 'drill baby drill' from now on. One of our members installed a set of glass packs on his a couple of years back. Sounded good, but didn't look that great. Maybe some industrious member will install a set of Road Kings on a 1stGen?? They'll take some yankee ingenuity to get them attached to the collector and maybe a bracket like they use on the 2ndGen's to mount them, but I bet it could be done??

    Avon Venom or Dunlop E3's.... I'm running the E3's on the 99 and no complaints.

    As long as you're in there replace 'm all. I think there's about 8? The Sylvania 158 or equivalent bulb is what you need. They're available at any autoparts store...

    I posted a thread request for Cody 2011 Logos, but so far the thread has drifted off into the sunset... So I think I get it.... Ya'll want to get something for your efforts. So here's the deal. The member who designs the winning logo will receive 2 (one of each color) free T-shirts with their design emblazened across the back. Not enough you say?? OK, and a 6/pak of your favorite beverage... other than hard liquor... Hey, even we have our limits.. So are you feeling lucky?? Time to spread those creative wings, and send in your ideas.

    In this economy he should be thinking about trade-in value if he want's to move it quickly. Now if gas goes up to $4.50/gal again ....... that's another story...

    What end of California do you call home Tim? Because of the length of the state we're pretty much divided up into NorCal/SoCal. Carolinan's were smart and cut their area up into North and South, but we're still trying to work it out.... I'm still looking for East Virginia?? I'm in NorCal just outside of Sacramento. There used to be a pretty good contingent of Venture Riders in the area, but they all got smart and left. One was really smart and moved to the North Carolina. If you're up North drop me a line. Southern Cal has some friendly VR's as well, so if you in SoCal drop a couple of them a PM.... Gotta love dem '83VR's....

    I took the '99 to the dealer and let them grunt. I figured it usually runs around $30 bucks per tire to have them mount and balance off the bike, and they charged $90 on the bike. No brainer, for the extra $30 bucks they can do the work. My little attempt at helping the economy.....

    I've been looking at that for our place too. The AC is going on 50 years old. It's still doing OK, but anytime now??
