another 2nd gear question

OK, we need a picture.....!! -
This is just a note letting those that might be interested??... I've received a couple of PM's from members who didn't get the word about the last of the Fork Braces So.... I just ordered another 10 Braces. They should be here the first or second week of October. Since I didn't want stick my neck out, and order 50 for max discount this time around, the price is going to be a tad more. $67 for the US, and $77US for Canada, and that's shipping included. Still a pretty good deal, and I don't have to sit on big bucks for over a year. That got old quick. So if anyone else wants one and missed out, here's your chance. Shoot me a paypal for the amount paypal@cast-aways.com and I'll get the brace headed your direction as soon as they come in. With the paypal, include your VentureRider.org 'handle' in the comment box.

another 2nd gear question
Condor replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've heard of the punch mark, but have never seen one, nor know of anyone who ever has... So it just might be folk lore. Anything from #1417 and over in '85 will have the upgraded tranny. 1stGen trannys were fixed under warantee when they failed by Y. Whether they fixed any others under a recall might also be folk lore. If I had bought a new '83 or '84 I would have certainly had it fixed, and with the number that keep failing it seems either a lot of owners didn't care, or it was a well guarded secret at the time. -
Rear Axle stuck---89
Condor replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try heating it up with a torch and then see if it'll move. You've probably disintigrated a bearing and it's welded itself to the axle or cut a groove and you need to bust the bearing out of there. Any other suggestions??? -
Carb Frustration. I'm goona shoot it!
Condor replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Since the fuel line is after the filter check to see if it's not breaking down on the inside. You might be getting small bits of rubber blocking the main jets and Sea Foam ain't gonna touch it.... -

Here's a link to LoneEagle's 2005 TD with a Harley trunk.

I had a piece of shale do that to a 1200x16.5 10ply Armstrong Rhino tire on my old GMC 4x4 once. If a rock can get through that I don't give an Avon much of a chance. Like already posted that can happen to any MC tire. Take a look at an off road MC tire after a season sometime. It looks like someone has taken an axe to it..... In Earl's case, that's the first time I've seen cracking in the tread area. I looks more like old age, or over inflation, and those side cracks aren't anything to get excited about. I've seen much worse. I'm running a Venom on the '83 with wider cracks. Hasn't gotten any worse after the initial appearance. One thing we all need to take into consideration is no one has experienced catastrophic failure with an Avon Venom.... The cracks are disconcerning so I've gone to E3's on the '99, but still have a set of Venoms sitting in the garage waiting to go on the '91, and I won't have a problem using them...

Here's another spin on this whole tailgating issue. Learn to live with it. Get distracted about someone tailgating you, and you're not paying attention to the other 100 possible dangers around you that'll ruin your whole day.... forever....

Working now... weren't this morning...

True, but if it doesn't sell he might get tired of moving it around in the garage.... but wait... it isn't in his garage any more....

That's OK, $400 is about what everybody trys to get out of them, and I'm looking for something less than that. Maybe that's why he ignored me?? I actually may have talked to him in the past?? I did make someone an offer... If it was him the offer might not have been interesting enough. Another reason for not contacting me....
-
So that's what he wanted for it... I tried to get a response out of him and never did. Finally forgot about it.....

20 Large....?? Guess the price of paint has skyrocketed???

Those vents show up on Ebay. Just ask questions and make sure the keeper tabs are still intact on the sides... Probably the reason yours decided to take off.... Same thing happened to me on my '83, and I caught it before it got away. Sometimes I even amaze myself.... It's now held in with 100mph tape...

Coolant bypass valve
Condor replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Drain the coolant by the plug on the bottom of the waterpump. The only thing you have to do is turn the 'drain' valve to the on position, and the coolant will by-pass the thermostat. -
Clutch, Clutch basket, Clutch bearing?
Condor replied to puppy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I bought my first ever '83VR it sounded like a bucket of bolts at idle. I thought it was normal. All I did was change out the oil and filter with Valvoline MC 20-50, and it quieted right down, and the only reason I did the oil change in the first place was I didn't have a clue what the PO had been using. Hard to believe that an oil change would make that much difference. -
And it comes with custom tuning knobs..... Ka-Bling!!

I feel your pain. Road Rash is nothing to take lightly. Hurts like 'H'. Glad you're both relatively OK otherwise.
