I guess you and Zag are they only ones so far.... Maybe if I added a grand prize of a Butter Pecan Ice Cream Sundae and braggin' rights, it might get a little more interesting?? Huh?? ... No need to give it a thumbs down just yet.... :-)

I'm kinda partial to those Rem 700's. Have several. 338RUM 7mmMag Plus a couple more in 223, 6mm, and 30-06....
-
Well there ya go Jeff. It's still a lot less than starting from scratch... Here's my Kimber 6.5x55 Gustof 96 Mauser Swede...

There is a big difference between motorcycles and firearms..... Guns don't seem to depreciate. MOF I'm doing better 'investing' in guns than I would have if I had bought gold... About 5-6 years ago I actually considered buying some gold as a long term investment, but right before pulling the trigger my gut said NO.... It turns out that at the price it was selling for I would have been upside down for the next 6 years except for one point when it surged up and then fell back down a couple of months later. Even today it still is slightly under what I would have paid. So I had non-buyers remorse for couple of months, and have been doing a happy dance for the rest of the time... The gun collection however has been steadily appreciating. Some guns more than others, but all of them have increased in value. And as a bonus they are more fun to talk about... :-) Any day is a good day when we can talk about guns and motorcycles.... PS: It also looks like that BEST/WEST rifle is going to go to someone with deeper pockets than this kids got.... That free's up funds to look at a few other's that are interesting...if the price is right?? :-)

Single Track and old dudes. anyone over 50 still doing this?

OK PUC... I gotta ask????? Do you have voice to text on your 'puter?? It would take me all day to type what you just did, and it absolutely amazes me about all your 'loooong winded' stories about the good old days. I normally erase a lot of the quote and leave just what I'm responding to, but this time it stays intact..... BTW I took typing in High School a billion years ago so I'm qualified to comment... -
Here's one... Who has the ugliest shotgun?? Post your picks....
-
Back in my day......Muruku in Japan made Charles Daly's. Which reminds me they still owe me a shotgun... :-) While a jobber rep I opened up the most Daly Dealers for the wholesaler, and first place was a Charles Daly O/U. Never got it... Anyway back then they were a nice gun. Don't have a clue what they are like now. As far as your friends opinion there are 100's of weekend warrior trap shooters shooting 1100's and 870's. We had one local kid that won the Jr's competition in Vandalia shooting an 1100.. The pro of the 1100 is it makes a decent doubles gun. The con is controlling the ejection of the empty. They do make a gizmo keeper that will keep the shell from hitting the guy on the next station... :-) The pro on the 870 is it's much easier to deal with empties, but a little cumbersome shooting doubles. Think how many Winchester Model 12 traps were worn out over the years. I wish there were some way to import a gun into Canada... In that same auction is a Flues Grade Ithaca single barrel trap. It's been restored, and not sure if it'll help or hurt the bidding?? That's the one I'd jump on... https://auctions.thegunrunner.com/lots/view/1-15FXYI/ithaca-flues-victory-grade-12-ga-single-barrel-trap-gun-34-vr-barrel-1919

Living in California, and being a gun nut, I can sympathize with you David. That Turkey looks pretty good but a lot of times what you see in a pic isn't what you get. Mainly fit a finish. However I have a few Chec and Italian copies that are made better than the original. Like Chuck mentioned his Rem1100. An 870T would also be a good choice. I like the 870 because of the ejection control. I've shot guns from both ends of the price spectrum and they all bust birds. I always found it funny when a trap shooter would be breaking 100's with a gun, and then drop a couple. Then get rid of the gun. If you like fancy wood, here's a pic of my 'collectible' 870TC 150 Anniversary. The wood is factory... Picked it up for $550 unfired.

Yeah, I agree Zag. There's too much going on between the muzzle and the target to get consistant accuracy... However.... we have a group of local long range shooters that consistantly hit a 4' boiler plate target at 2200 yds. They leave a live walky talky next to the target in order to hear the 'clank'. I seen pics of the aftermath and some of the bullets laying around on the ground and they are just bent. Most of the calibers are 50. Here's a website that'll give you an idea of what these guys do... http://precisionrifleblog.com/2018/07/05/what-the-pros-use-king-2-miles-edition/ I just look at it this way...if it's accurate at 1000yds, it'll be accurate at 100... :-)

I would feel the same way if I were buying a used target rifle, as they are the only ones that come close to wearing a bbl out. All of the custom rifles I'm interested are in general rebarreled custom commercial Mauser actions, and get shot 3-4 times a year during hunting season. Most, if not all bores, are like new, and because it's a custom the overall condition of the gun is excellent... If it's a beater I'll pass... To customize a Mauser at todays prices will cost 2k-3k. I can find them in 99.9% condition for $450-$650. Wadda deal!! :-)
-
I'm right there with ya Don. I have a couple of safes full of hi-end custom rifles. I'll never shoot most of them, but enjoy the craftsmanship that went into building them. However I'm not very talented when it comes to in-letting an action, and when it came time to replace a nice stock on a rifle that UPS decided to break into two pieces... and after butchering a Bishop stock... I found a Hogue plastic that the barreled action slipped right into. Perfect fit. And I can live with it... :-) And I can appreciate even more the talent that goes into building a custom rifle....

I have a lot of big caliber mags Chuck, but this one in 7mmMag is in my wheelhouse. Kinda partial to 7mmRemMag, and my old favorite 264WinMag,... and no need to worry about not having enough ammo... :-) I don't have a Weatherby, but they've always held my attention, and they're realistic in their prices... The 30-378 is legendary in long range 1000 yd accuracy, and actually has the parent case of the 375H&H of which I own a few... The BestWest retail is insane. 8g's for a rifle?? Com'on?? For way less then half of that you could build the finest long range rifle known to God.... But theirs do look cool... :-)

Every once in a while when I think the itch has been scratched enough up pops a gun that captures my lusting imagination. There is probably no way it'll stay down in my pocket book range, but it'll keep me thinking for the next 3 weeks.... https://auctions.thegunrunner.com/lots/view/1-15FXXY/best-of-the-west-signature-series-7mm-rem-mag-cal-bolt-action-26-barrel-wmuzzle-brake-kevlar-stock-huskemaw-4x-16x-scope http://www.thebestofthewest.net/ http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg

I had a case of the shingles once. In the left small of my back. Classic spot. I thought I'd been bitten by a spider, and it hurt like hell, so I went to the ER. While sitting on the gurney an older nurse walked in and asked me what was the problem and I told her what I thought. She asked me to lift up my shirt, took one look, and said hmm.. Shingles. So they gave me the old 6 weeks story and a supply of some sort of salve. Put the stuff on the area and in one week it disappeared and so far never returned..., and somewhere I have a lifetime supply of that salve.... It's the folks that get the stuff on the face or forehead that have my sympathy.
-
Well Dang, that does make me feel a little better. Just looked it up...which is what I should have done in the first place... duh..., and you're spot on. 50-75% is normal. So one chamber is pumping 30, and the others?? Who knows.... Maybe the meds will take care of the problem. However... the older I get the more pills I need to take every morning... Getting to be almost a full meal... :-) My wife used to take a fist full, and I thought it ain't ever going to happen to me. Well guess what.. :-)
-
Thanks Puc... Kinda supports my thoughts. Too bad about the 1stGen's.... I guess the twisties are subject to the brand and type tire. I wonder if the 195/55R would fit the new V-Twins???
-
Well yeah.... Twisty's are a known problem, but more for handling because of the flatness of the tread, not for mechanical problems... Your's is the first I've heard of one coming apart, but probably not as frequent as Metzler's tossing caps. Highway slabbing is a different story, and where a tourer will rack up most of the miles. So it still may be a good alternative then dealing with Robber Barons....
-
The scary part is my 'younger' gene pool brother had a 6-way bypass about 3 years ago. Has to watch what he eats and is on the tread mill every morning, but doing OK. My worry about any operation is Murphy is always close by. With the Colon Surgery that normally takes about 7 days before they kick you out and send you home, took me 21 days, and I was still wobbly after 3 weeks. They wanted to keep me longer but I was sick and tired of that damn hospital.... I figured that when the nurses started getting really attractive it was time to head home. :-)

Gr8 poem Puc. I can see why they published it.... My hat is off to Ted. He's my hero.. :-) But heck, I'd be doing that too if I were that young... -
R-D-R-R-R M8ty... Gotta be carefull. That could be considered a 'Dead Man's Chest'

With that kind of money, and the low mileage, I'm wondering if going to the dark side on the rear might be an option. Those that have, on their 2ndGens have reported great mileage. In the 20K-25K range. Might be something to look into?? We used to have a fairly active 'dark side' group here on the board. I bet they'd know... I also bet the cost would be 20% of what the stealers are trying to pull out of the OEM/MC. I've never considered going that direction 'cause I just don't put that many miles on the odo, but for someone who does a car tire might be the answer... :confused07:

Look Familiar?? "Dutch" Male. 2 years. 35#. Rat 'Terror' Terrier, Parson Russel, and Queensland. Socks are brown ticked, body is black ticked. The coat pattern and head are Rat. The longer legs are from a Parson. And the brown ticked sox's come from the Queensland. The big difference I can see is your 'girl' has a shorter stockier leg structure. More from a Basset or Dachshund... or Jack Russel??...Otherwise she's got a lot of Rat Terrier in her.... Dutch has the longer legs from the Russel, and they extend rearward more for tight quarter maneuvering.

With mine I just couldn't catch my breath or complete a yawn even tho I wanted to. Went to emergency and they boiled and oiled me and sent me back home. My primary Doc ordered the EchoKG and that's when they found the weak pumper.... I'm still having the mild attacks but last night I could not catch my breath all night long. I could get some relief while sitting so spent most of the night on VR.Org.... I've been feeling better and cat napping most of the day... Meds are on their way. One thing I have been doing is peeing a lot every hour on the hour, and not drinking much if any water. So I musta been holding water. That's what causes congestive heart failure... Just wanna say thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts... It helps...
-
OK... In my expert opinion she's part Rat Terrier with a little Jack Russel mixed in. We have her 2 year old big brother. "Dutch". Rat Terrier, Parson Russel, and Queensland. Smarter than all get out, and a bundle of energy... Every one want's to take him home... I tought I had a few pics, but can't find them. Good reason to take a few pics with my new2me Nikon D3100....
