  1. I don't think you'll find anyone on this board who will sacrifice safety for the sake of a dollar, and I didn't take anything personally, but questioned your original statement 'why in sam help would you keep installing a product that could kill you' as very 'holier than thou' judgemental on your part. From that response, sir, I wonder why you even ride a bike due to the possible inheirent danger involved.
  2. You'd be surprised what these guys will spot in a pile. Take a bunch of pics and post them. Also it would be nice if you became a supporting member....
  3. And your saying the blow out was due to side wall checking or cap seperation?? I think there's more to your story than's being mentioned here... And can I assume that if you blow another brand tire you won't replace it with that brand either? Also read my post again. I was not worried about a catastrophic failure due to the conditions it had been ridden under, but the checking was discerning.... Ergo, the request for a warantee. I'm not rolling dice, I'm riding a bike. If you feel that all failures are the fault of the tire, than by all means keep changing brands. What ever floats your boat..... But that doesn't mean that boat is for everyone...
  4. I was probably the first one to report the checking on the Venoms in '07 after the Susanville gathering on the '83. Since there wasn't any history like there is now, I went ahead and chalked it up to a fluke, and also since I had the tire up into the triple digits I wasn't worried about any catastophic failures. The second tire started checking right from the git-go and it was built within 2 weeks of the first tire. Now it was looking like a bad batch. The third tire built much later hasn't checked in over 6000 miles, and it's still going strong. I did replace the tires on the '99 with E3's, but still have a set of Venoms for the '91 waiting in the wings. The checking is discerning, but to my knowledge there has never been a catrosphic failure like those with the Metzlers. But let's face it they'll all kill you if you let them.... No tire is 100%.
  5. I replaced the first two fronts under warantee. The first tire I paid for the labor, the second time the labor was paid by Avon. You'll never get them to pony up the labor unless you ask.
  6. So what's the color? Standard or Royale? What was wrecked?? Why can't you post pics here??
  7. It'll fit, but it's a tight squeeze. The MKII passenger seat is broader than the MKI's. Personally I'd keep looking for a MKI...

Oh he!!, I thought that's where Buddy was, and letting me know he was in town????
  9. Don't see why not. Put another wrap of teflon on the threads and go for it. MOF I have a couple on the old '83's ADives that will be going on the '99 when I get around to it. Will need to pick up a couple more off the web site fairly soon.
  10. That was the most intertaining half hour I've had a quite a while... Loved every minute. Thanks!!
  11. Cupping comes from underinflated tires. Did your friend happen to mention what pressure he was religously running the Avon's at?? A lot of riders will try to soften the ride by running pressures lower than max, rather than adjusting the suspension....
  12. You'd have been better off spending the money on a set of Speed Bleeders. 4 SB's would run about the same price as the Mighty Vac.
  13. I find this kinda curious. What's the difference between building and titling a custom made up of 'parts', and this kit, which is also a bunch of 'parts'. It can't be sold as a complete bike, because it ain't...
  14. Yeah, the '86 1300 in my '84 also says YICS....
  15. Wasn't there a member who used to rebuild the TCI's???
  16. My thoughts on this is he wasn't defensively looking down the road far enough checking for cars that might pull out in front of him, and he was going too fast. I've had drivers pull out in front of me, but by the time they do I'm already slowed and have a hand on the brake. You never know what some of these yea-hoos will do behind the wheel, and if you think they see you... you're in deep trouble...
  17. This is one time I'm glad I have a lot 'natural' padding in the seat area..... No bony butts here!....
  18. I was born in Buffalo, and went to NYC once.. when I was about 5 or 6 with my folks. I ate at the Auto-mat and climbed up into the torch of the Statue of Liberty. Glad it was 65 years ago in the good ol' days. Now I just go to New York, New York in Vegas....
  19. My '99 came with the shorter Show Chrome shield, and I get a lot of buffetting when on the freeway at 70-75mph, but around town it's OK. It also came with the OEM shield and I'll probably put it back on when doing long rides like to Cody next year.. Being fairly tall I don't know what it's like to look through a shield. Prefer it that way....
  20. Think I need to check mine?? I bet it's been a while.... It's something I would have never thought of unless I read it here. Ain't this place the greatest!!
  21. Good ideas, but why not go with a 2-speed boat trailer winch and save a few bucks?? Mount the winch on the wall and run the line up and over to where you want the trailer. Just a thought....
  22. There are a couple of thermostat controlled electricals on the market. I run a Lasko tower in the insulated barn/office. Keeps everything toasty. I also have a larger Lasko unit for the wife in her office.. she gets cold easily... I actually bought it to heat the front of the house for a few days when we lost the heater last year during the winter. It also did a great job. I wouldn't suggest any open flame type heater for the garage if you're going to be working in there.... PS: When using an electric you can leave the thermostat set at a lower temp and it keeps everything from freezing. Get one that warms up the air, and it's OK as long as you're just breathing. Tools, bike, and floor are still ice cold for hours. I set my thermo at 55f during the night and bump it up to 65 during the day.
  23. There's a set of 1" kuryakyn magnum clamps with a $28.95 opening and free shipping on Ebay right now.
  24. Tentatively No!!
