My thoughts on this is he wasn't defensively looking down the road far enough checking for cars that might pull out in front of him, and he was going too fast. I've had drivers pull out in front of me, but by the time they do I'm already slowed and have a hand on the brake. You never know what some of these yea-hoos will do behind the wheel, and if you think they see you... you're in deep trouble...

I was born in Buffalo, and went to NYC once.. when I was about 5 or 6 with my folks. I ate at the Auto-mat and climbed up into the torch of the Statue of Liberty. Glad it was 65 years ago in the good ol' days. Now I just go to New York, New York in Vegas....

My '99 came with the shorter Show Chrome shield, and I get a lot of buffetting when on the freeway at 70-75mph, but around town it's OK. It also came with the OEM shield and I'll probably put it back on when doing long rides like to Cody next year.. Being fairly tall I don't know what it's like to look through a shield. Prefer it that way....

Think I need to check mine?? I bet it's been a while.... It's something I would have never thought of unless I read it here. Ain't this place the greatest!! -
Good ideas, but why not go with a 2-speed boat trailer winch and save a few bucks?? Mount the winch on the wall and run the line up and over to where you want the trailer. Just a thought....

There are a couple of thermostat controlled electricals on the market. I run a Lasko tower in the insulated barn/office. Keeps everything toasty. I also have a larger Lasko unit for the wife in her office.. she gets cold easily... I actually bought it to heat the front of the house for a few days when we lost the heater last year during the winter. It also did a great job. I wouldn't suggest any open flame type heater for the garage if you're going to be working in there.... PS: When using an electric you can leave the thermostat set at a lower temp and it keeps everything from freezing. Get one that warms up the air, and it's OK as long as you're just breathing. Tools, bike, and floor are still ice cold for hours. I set my thermo at 55f during the night and bump it up to 65 during the day.

You got Crash Bar Braces???
Condor replied to Owen's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I really doubt you're going to find them used from another member. Once they're installed they're permanent.... Why don't you just buy a new set from Larry, and pick up the clamps off Ebay? -
Carefull, it becomes addictive......

We've got a new problem now and I've been put in charge of fixing it.
Condor replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Take it to Arlen Ness. Maybe they'll do it as a project on Two Wheel Thunder....?? -
If I remember correctly the back two mounts are a PITA to get out, and some folks have just let them be....

I wonder what type of gas milage they're getting with them?? With a 6.3 gallon tank it might not be very good... The tank is also probably why everyone get's the inpression that it's a big bike. Pound for pound it's right in the same class as the RSV's. Actually with the specs listing the weight as 'wet' it might be a bit lighter than the RSV. I remember back while sitting on top of a Honda VTX 1900, and thinking it was huge because of the size of the tank...

Put me down for a set if it works out....

Larry, if you can hold a camera steady a 30X, you're a three legged rock. BTW the human eye equivalent is 53mm and most digital cameras will start at a mild wide 32mm to mild telephoto, and the rest is handled with internal programing by cropping. The more pixels the more a camera can crop and get a reasonably sharp picture. And if you think you need a greater magnification to photograph scenery you aparently haven't taken many scenic images. Scenics are where a mild wides to mild telephotos shine. True a longer lens will help when shooting your favorite hummingbird or a rattle snake, but when it comes to the type of photography most of us do while touring it's wide angles 95% of the time.

What pray tell would you use 18X zoom for, and are you sure that's optical zoom, and not part digital??

Driver Foot Pegs
Condor replied to elmicko's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The problem is R&R'ing them. I tried it once and what a wrestling match.... Picked up minty pegs off Ebay instead. A lot easier....- 2 replies

What happened to the trailer hitch ad in the classifieds????
Condor replied to stvmaier's topic in Watering Hole
Yep, that ad was Hilliss' at R-Mark I just installed one on the '99, that I picked up used from another member, and like it. The square tubing is a thiner wall than what I'm generally used to, but then again I'm not towing a 1 ton trailer either. One thing I did find was that an aftermarket drop coupler will not fit the receiver without a bit of grinding. From past experience I'm sure Carbon One's and Ponch's are equally as good.- 7 replies

I understand your concern about Chinese goods. Especially after the last lead and mercury problems. But.... I'm not sure this would be an issue with an aluminum product, and I would love to buy American..... But where??? If you can suggest a US manufacturer I'm all ears.... Lately Chinese quality has been on the upswing, and I'm not really sure how an alloy wheel can be screwed up.
