  1. That's the way I felt about it. I emailed the perp back and said that my son-in-law gave me a GPS so won't be needing his. Actually I just picked up another Street Pilot c550 off Ebay and it arrived the same day I stumbled across the Whistler ad. So all is good. The c550 has bluetooth, MP3, like new, and got it for $75 bucks on the doorstep. That little c550 is a great GPS. Almost makes me want to go out and buy another Venture to put in on.... NOT!!
  2. I'd also check with Jake Wilson Free shipping over $100
  3. Great price!! Ya should have given a heads up to the members. Was it a Motorola? Or??
  4. Take a ride up 101 north to Eureka. There are plenty of side trips on Hwy1, and you'll get to hug some of those big ol' Redwoods on the Avenue of the Giants. That should scratch the itch....
  5. They should have thought a little more on those saddlebags. The one thing I didn't like on the 1stGenMKI is the side loaders. PITA packing them. Otherwise it looks 'Coostem Guy'....
  6. That's the pits. Did you check with the station you last bought fuel at?? You might still get the wallet back...without the money. Folks will drop them into PO boxes, and eventually they'll find their way back home. It may take a while. If it fell out while riding it may never show up. With the wallet in the back pocket they'll start to work their way out while moving around in the saddle. I always take mine out and put it in a front pocket when riding.. I move around a lot....
  7. Well, got a call from the Sheriff's office today. A lot quicker than I would have expected. I planned on calling them Friday morning. We had a good chat, but the bottom line was that they probably won't be doing anything. They get 400-500 calls a week and only 6 detectives to work them. So they try to work on the majors, and mine was petty theft. We talked further and I said I had the guys name from a return email thru hotmail.com. He ran the name and the guy came up as a drug dealer and was on paroll. He got a little more interested and said they'd be looking into it. It might be the tip of the ice berg. He also asked that I stay away from the guy. He's not someone I'd want to meet. So it looks like something will happen after all. Whether I get the GPS back isn't that big of a deal. Heck, I've already replaced it with a better unit. I'd just like to see the guy put in a vise.
  8. Good idea, but too late now. The deed has been done....
  9. Be patient, they'll have more. I have bought 2 off WOOT. And they are getting cheaper, unlike a lot of other things. I generally go there every morning first thing to see what they're hawking for the day.
  10. For less than $50 bucks??? Sure, it's not going to be a Zumo 550, but......?? Actually the reviews I read weren't all that bad..... 2 pro's and one con....
  11. After posting this I thought... Hmmmm McMasters...Doh!! They have all kinds. Already placed the order. Home Depot, ACE, Loew's, don't carry stainless. They do have a metal mesh, but it doesn't last in the intense heat and disappears along with the fiberglass packing. Which brings up another subject. I'm going to go with Ceramic Packing instead of glass. The stuff will withstand temps up to 2000 degs. Fiberglass is rated to 1200, and gets brittle and disintigrates under extreme heat. That's why mufflers get louder the older they get. I like a mellow rumble and want it to stay that way. With the screen and ceramic they should remain that way for a long time. When I took the BUB's apart there was absolutely no packing left. I bet they were louder the 'H'.....
  12. 7.5" Yikes. I have a tough time finding a spot for the GPS without covering up some of the guages. I'd have to be real creative to find something for 7.5....
  13. OK, I'm still rebuilding the BUB's and want to wrap the baffles with some stainless screen to slow down the packing from disappearing. I've looked all over and locally can't find the stuff anywhere. I've found it online but they want to sell me enough to cover the whole bike. Anyone know where I can find a small amount??
  14. Mine are the slowest.......
  15. :sign yeah that:
  16. Just a heads up. WOOT is featuring a Motorola GPS this morning. Price is right. If you want a cheap GPS to play with, here it is. http://www.woot.com/
  17. Sent you an email Len. I'll call you in the AM. It's sorta late where you are...
  18. That's the chance anyone takes when buying something and not getting a receipt. No receipt and he's guilty of receiving stolen goods. Personally I think the guy is the original perp, and just waited until things calmed down before trying to sell it. It was just dumb luck that I ran across the ad. He also has a Honda Super Hawk listed. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/mcy/2049307116.html It's probably hot too.....
  19. About a month ago I went stupid, and didn't lock the Suburban parked out in the front of the house. Someone decided to releave me of my GPS, mount, and power cord. The GPS was my original, not worth reporting due to value, so I just wrote it off. I bought it off WOOT for $99 new. Last night while cruising Craigs List, lo-and-behold, there it is. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/ele/2049450733.html I still have the original box, serial number, etc., but I'm not quite sure what to do??. Full frontal assault with a pair of 9mm Glocks, or call the authorities. I chose the later. Never did file a theft report, so had to do that online. Without a report, no crime had been committed. Now waiting to be called by a detective. Meanwhile I did send the seller an email from my 'stealth' hotmail account and he replied. I now have his name. The reason I know it's my GPS is that in the pictures it has a strip of while velcro pile right above the screen. I put it there to hold a home made hood I used when I rode the '83 to Ft Collins in '07. The chance of two of them having that are pretty rare. Like chicken lips. I was told to call Friday morning if I hadn't heard from a Detective by then. I don't think the guy is going to sell it very soon as his asking price is on the high side, and GPS's are all over the place on CL. http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg
  20. Number 70 should come right off. To replace it I suggest making a trip to your ACE Harware and pick up a nylon washer about the same size. Take the old washer with you.
  21. I sold a set of slash cuts to one of the members here about 2 years ago for $25 bucks. Wish Ida known about this guy... Ida sold them to him for $250 bucks, and he coulda doubled his money...
  22. I filed for early at 62, and my wife filed for it 6 mos later. The main reason I filed was to pay for the health insurance which was going clean out of sight. $950 per month the last time around. When we hit 65 and qualified for Medi-Care it was time. I continue to work even though I collect the monthly stipend, and ever couple of years they 'up' the monthly because I'm still paying into the system. We're none too happy about the cost of living being cut off and congress still getting theirs , but so far we're surviving. The nice thing about being a dot.com biz, is I'll be able to bring in a little bacon, even as I get older. No need to stop. Besides I think my boss is great. And I have enough 1stGen stuff stashed to start another biz if I wanted to.
  23. They've been around for years. They hang on the wall and you can only make a collect call once a week.....
  24. It could have been a lot worse Kevin. Thanksfully it wasn't... We don't need to lose any SoCal riders..
  25. You're not alone Joe..... :backinmyday:
