  1. A Fork Brace will eliminate a lot of that tracking problem.
  2. Looks like it's got Autobahn written all over it.....
  3. This is just a thought, but most folks, when comparing a bulbs brightness, do it with the naked eye. I wonder what it might be if someone actually did a brightness test comparison with one of the older lightmeters used in photography? Maybe a Minolta spotmeter?? That would give an exact read and not be subjective...
  4. Check the valve clearance. There was a discusssion a while back about clearance effecting the compression. You stated that oil came out the valve, and just maybe the valve is not seating.....
  5. I suspect it's probably the cold temp speedo moan. I had it appear on the '83 and lubed the 'H' out of everything I could. It did seem to help, but not cure it totally. The real problem was that the upper connection to the speedo had come loose. I only found this out when R&Ring the dash later on. Gone14S had the same symptoms on his '84 when he bought it. I clued him in on the loose connector and he found that was the problem too. So you might want to pull the left hand turn signal assembly and reach in there to see if your's is loose also.
  6. On the high shipping, they're ripping Ebay off. The problem is Ebay doesn't do a thing about it. Maybe it's so insignificant that they can't be bothered, or things are getting so bad that they don't want to alienate a seller. There have been a lot of 'deals' offered lately to get sellers to list items. I've reported excessive shipping to them, but nothings ever done. What I think is humorus are the bike covers out of China. $.01 plus $17.00 shipping. There are tons of them on Ebay, and they don't pay a thing in end user fees. Heck I just bought 6 of them. They state that they are UV resistant and 'all' weather. We'll see when they come in. Back to the Ebay shipping.... I don't know if any of you are participating in the Ebay Bucks program, but Ebay only pays a spiff on the sold price, not shipping. So the seller is screwing the buyer too. On the high prices for Venture items, the itmes in demand will always bring bidding activity, i.e. pillow top seats... 1st-2ndGen chrome... but there are bunches of stuff that won't get a sniff. I'm watching Pinwall listing 50-100 items and only getting bids a small percentage. Hess4less has basically disappeared because of stuff going so cheap. Why go thru the trouble of listing stuff when it just sits. Private sellers don't want to waste their time. Occasionally I used to list items, but now they are more valuable to me then what they would bring on Ebay, so why bother. And I'm not alone...
  7. This YouTube is kinda long, but has some great VB action. The team is coached by my Niece Dana. See's doing a great job. She used to play VB for Texas A&M. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W57NxS1j66c&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - chino hills v oaks christian volleyball semifinal.wmv[/ame] The family's pretty proud of what she's done....
  8. The screen came from http://www.mcmaster.com/ And the Ceramic packing I picked up off Ebay. They would have cut it to size and sold direct, but I figured that what they had listed would work and went with the auction. It was a little thick at 1" but I found I could easily peal off about 1/4" to fit the baffle space. The corroded tips were polished out by britex a local parts polishing shop. They also cleaned up the baffles of rust in their bead blaster.
  9. I'm coming down the home stretch. I have the Bub's completed and ready to be installed. I went with a stainless steel screen over the baffles and a ceramic instead of fiberglass packing over the screen. The ceramic/stainless screen combination sounds like it may solve the problem of the disappearing packing. There was just a few tuft's of the fiber glass left when I disassembled them. Before changing them out I plan on taking a video/sound bite of the OEM's with 47K on them, and then the Bub's for comparison. It's gonna be interesting.....
  10. I'm toying with the idea of going home thru Kalispell and visit the Bro., but it all depends on how I feel after Cody. Maybe we can get a group together and form a 'Cody After Glow' ride to Glacier?? And maybe I can get Tom to cook breakfast for the group?? He likes to cook....
  11. OK, Another question. Obviously I'm not looking at investing, but more a long term hedge against inflation if the poop hits the fan. Beside silver and dirt, what other areas exist where someone can put their money and get the same results. Just trying to toss around some other ideas.... The one thing that bothers me about gold is the uncharacteristic rise in the value caused by panic buying. I don't want to end up roadkill...
  12. Ahhh.... Question answered. Wondered how I ended up #1 post.. Don's messin' with the posts again.....
  13. Well Al, to answer your first post.... It was there?? Don't know what happened to it?? On your second post, Glacier is a great place to visit. There are many smaller towns close by that offer Lodging. When in Kalispell we stay at the Motel 6. My bro lives in Kalispel... The Road to the Sun is a must do. http://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/goingtothesunroad.htm White Fish is kinda cool. Columbia Falls is also a good place to stay.
  14. Check the compression.....
  15. Sounds like the pig was on the spit.... For that kind of money you did good.... 'specially for one over the 1417 serial number. Keep us posted on how it works out...
  16. I had one come apart on my '83. I put it back to gether and it didn't feel like it was going to stay, so tweeked the leading edge on the metal sleeve, and it's been over 6000 miles with no problems. Maybe I was just lucky?? If you're able to replace the plastic slide make sure it's from a MKI. There are slight differences between the MKI and MKII diaphragm slides. Earl may be able to help you with the differences... Also, just because you stoled the bike doesn't mean the parts are going to be cheap too.....
  17. Good advice, and I may look into spreading the money out a bit. Since I plan on holding on to it for a while it might be a direction to go. I'm also looking at wheat and corn futures. We all gotta eat.....
  18. Prayers sent Bob. My fishing/lunch buddy has neuropothy in his lower legs. Can't feel a thing and has to wear braces from the knees down. I told him if he ever falls overboard he's gonna sink like a rock, and I ain't coming after him.... On land we call him 'Tripod'....
  19. Try putting in a new set of plugs, and add a full can of Sea Foam to a full tank. These engines run great if kept between 3000-4000 rpm. ...Another good reason to add a tach....
  20. I had a freind buy a half mill in gold certs last year, kept it for 3 months and unloaded it. It was the only thing that turned a profit and let him break even for the year.... He's got bigger cajones than I'll ever have.
  21. I think the key word here is 'Precious' metals. There's a limited quantity of solid gold available. Not so with Silver, which I think is considered 'semi-precious'. It's all a supply and demand thing. If the supply is high there never will be a demand. I know all those things suggested will be in demand, but that's in a dooms-day scenario. I'm also in the physical camp. Buying certificates is scary to me. I wanna hold it. Certificates could be manipulated into a ponzie scheme. I did take a look at Bullion Direct. Interesting. I also found this site. GOLD PRICE It seems to have a lot of information to chew on. Thanks for the comments so far. They help a lot. Going to go out and stock up on T-Paper... Which reminds me. A lot of years ago some local radio station in Florida mentioned there was a countyT-Paper shortage. It went viral, and in about a week everyone had sold out of TP.... nationwide... So ya never know...
  22. A couple of years back we had two local independants bite the dust. One ended up in an auction, and I scored on some nice stuff for next to nothin'. So far they have been the only two that I can think of. There have been a few others in outlying towns, and I far as I know they were all indy's.
  23. Nope. Only when I feel they are needed, or in low light situations....
  24. Has anyone bought gold lately? I never have, but am thinking about it. Maybe anywhere from 10-20 ozs. Like many other buyers it would be a hedge against run-away inflation. Comments would be welcome. I'd rather hear advise from members on this board than some self serving dealer that I don't know from Adam....
  25. I didn't notice any difference in performance on the '83. It did give more of a 'lope' to the idle which I kinda liked, so left the mod. I will end up doing it to the '99 as well. The 'T' they arre refering to can be bought at most auto parts stores. The T needs to be placed in the middle of the hose to make a place to connect the AIS vacuum hose. I bet someone has a pic....
