Good advice, and I may look into spreading the money out a bit. Since I plan on holding on to it for a while it might be a direction to go. I'm also looking at wheat and corn futures. We all gotta eat.....

Prayers sent Bob. My fishing/lunch buddy has neuropothy in his lower legs. Can't feel a thing and has to wear braces from the knees down. I told him if he ever falls overboard he's gonna sink like a rock, and I ain't coming after him.... On land we call him 'Tripod'....

Venture stumbling in high gear
Condor replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Try putting in a new set of plugs, and add a full can of Sea Foam to a full tank. These engines run great if kept between 3000-4000 rpm. ...Another good reason to add a tach.... -
I had a freind buy a half mill in gold certs last year, kept it for 3 months and unloaded it. It was the only thing that turned a profit and let him break even for the year.... He's got bigger cajones than I'll ever have.

I think the key word here is 'Precious' metals. There's a limited quantity of solid gold available. Not so with Silver, which I think is considered 'semi-precious'. It's all a supply and demand thing. If the supply is high there never will be a demand. I know all those things suggested will be in demand, but that's in a dooms-day scenario. I'm also in the physical camp. Buying certificates is scary to me. I wanna hold it. Certificates could be manipulated into a ponzie scheme. I did take a look at Bullion Direct. Interesting. I also found this site. GOLD PRICE It seems to have a lot of information to chew on. Thanks for the comments so far. They help a lot. Going to go out and stock up on T-Paper... Which reminds me. A lot of years ago some local radio station in Florida mentioned there was a countyT-Paper shortage. It went viral, and in about a week everyone had sold out of TP.... nationwide... So ya never know...

A couple of years back we had two local independants bite the dust. One ended up in an auction, and I scored on some nice stuff for next to nothin'. So far they have been the only two that I can think of. There have been a few others in outlying towns, and I far as I know they were all indy's.

Nope. Only when I feel they are needed, or in low light situations....

Has anyone bought gold lately? I never have, but am thinking about it. Maybe anywhere from 10-20 ozs. Like many other buyers it would be a hedge against run-away inflation. Comments would be welcome. I'd rather hear advise from members on this board than some self serving dealer that I don't know from Adam....

I didn't notice any difference in performance on the '83. It did give more of a 'lope' to the idle which I kinda liked, so left the mod. I will end up doing it to the '99 as well. The 'T' they arre refering to can be bought at most auto parts stores. The T needs to be placed in the middle of the hose to make a place to connect the AIS vacuum hose. I bet someone has a pic....

Unless you can put a time limit on a forum post, or include classifieds in the new post email notification, or sort button, I don't think there's an adiquate answer to the problem Don. BTW you might as well add 'Seen on Ebay' posts to your effort.

1984 Venture but is it a Royale
Condor replied to snow4brains's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nope, too much riding for this old guy.... Is your choke set with a button slide on the bottom of the LH control, or is it set by rotating a disc in front of the grip?? -
You might think about installing schrader valves in the lines leading to the rear shock and front forks. That'll get you back up where you belong. It doesn't make any difference what you paid for it, but if it won't operate properly you'd be better off parting it out.

1984 Venture but is it a Royale
Condor replied to snow4brains's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks. Now we need to know if any of the colors ever came both ways, or whether they were model specific. I've never seen an '84 Gold Royale.... -
1984 Venture but is it a Royale
Condor replied to snow4brains's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Maybe so. The pin stripping may hae been added by a PO. In '83 they only had Gold Royales and Red Standards, plus I think the Midnight. I was under the impression that they just swapped the colors for '84, as I have seen a gold '84 standard, and red royales. I own a red royale. I think the only way we'd be able to tell on this '84 is if it has the onboard compressor. It's definately been pieced together. -
1984 Venture but is it a Royale
Condor replied to snow4brains's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The Bike's an enigma/conumdrum. Left counsel is from a standard with an aftermarket am/fm/cd. The right counsel is from a Royale with the CLASS control... it may not have the compressor?? The dash is an '84 with the green Venture Cruise on the speedo, but I'm not totally sure the standard came with cruise as an option?? Don't see the antenna or the left muffler....?????????? Obviously it's been repainted, but if there's any original paint left and it's Red/Maroon it originally was a Royale. If it's Gold it was a standard. Go figure.... -
Nope it's all done with the monitor....

Nah, I think you mean it's spɹɐʍʞɐɔɐ sɐq.... You didn't read all the text Thom..... I just stole Don's pic for future reference. Wish he had posted it when I had the same problem. Now I'm an Idle expert....

Tragedy happens even while riding in the boonies. This happened yesterday in SoCal. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/11/14/california.motorcyle.accident/index.html

There's a phillips screw just to the rear of the #3 carb on the right side. Attached is a pic of the right side, and that chrome cover over the carbs has a small cutaway in one corner. That's there so you can get to the screw. If you don't have the cover at least you have an idea of where it's located.... OK I just looked closely at the pic... not my bike... and the cover is on the wrong side. So picture it on the other side (right) and you get the idea....

I have a set of K&N's waiting in the wings to be installed on the '99. Got 'm off Ebay for $60 on the doorstep. I run K&N's in all my bikes and have no complaints. Needed the foam seal replaced due to oil saturation on the '91 and contacted them. Got one in the mail N/C in about 3 days. Their aftermarket support is excellent.
