  1. It all depends on how far you want to go. You can pull them, drill them, disassemble them, toss in some packing, and reassemble in about an hour if Murphy isn't around. A little longer if you want to use screen etcs. I don't think you'll need any gaskets. I just picked up a set from another member...just because, and their ID is the same as the ID on the Bub's. So you may not even need gaskets?? I'm sure someone else will jump in here to let us know one way or another as I haven't installed mine yet.
  2. When my drive became corrupted I picked up a Teribyte for something like $80 bucks. Partitioned it, and Installed WXP and apps in one partition, C:, and all my data, work files, and photos in the D: With the TB I'll never run out of storage....and if WXP goes bad I can reinstall with nothing lost.
  3. That was my thought...
  4. Good call, I'll try to give him a call later today... Maybe he's a new Papa....??
  5. I've been trying to get in contact with ronhenry4, a member who has several items listed in our classy's that I'm interested in. I've sent several email and PM's over the last week or so, and so far nothing.... Anyone know if he's OK??
  6. Dang, those tips are really nice looking.....
  7. I'm going to shot them with some clear before installing them. I don't know if they make a hi-temp clear, but they make everything else. So if they do I'll find it.... Maybe the same stuff Y uses on the side covers. It takes 25 years for that to yellow, and I'll probably be long gone before that happens.....
  8. LOL... My bad. I misread the post... Happens all the time.
  9. I'll put you one the fork list Dan. I got my forks from Bike Bandit... I think?? Around $65 bucks plus shipping.
  10. Progressive seem to be the spring of choice Ryan, and if you shop around on the net they sell for around $70 bucks. There are other springs available, but Progressives seem to be the most popular.
  11. I'm with you Randy. I usually start looking at 2 hours and 150 miles on long trips. Around town I'll run it down to the bottom. The red light had only come on once at about 225....
  12. WOW!! You're lucky. I'm no tip expert, but the tips still had a lot of the chrome attached and it took a bunch to grind it off. I think if all the chrome had come off like yours I would have seriously considered the black paint route. However I'm pretty happy with the results I achieved.
  13. Is that before or after you strip the chrome off?? If it's before, what are you doing to keep the rest of the chrome from flaking off and messing up the paint job??
  14. I just rebuilt a set of Bub's that I picked up from our classy's. The body's were decent, but the tips were pealing, so I had the chrome removed completely and had them professionally polished out. When I originally called Bub, thinking I might just buy another set, the gal that ran sales said they were going back to aluminum and the replacements would be $110 a pair. It was a no brainer.... I buffed 'm out. Cost, $40 bucks. Since they are rebuildable I went ahead and took them apart. They came off a 2006 RSV so it's possible the milage would have been around 30-40,000, and when I removed the baffle there wasn't any packing left except a few little tuffs. They must have been louder than 'H'. After doing some surfing on the web I find that the reason the packing disappears is that FiberGlass gets brittle when it gets hot and crumbles. It's then blown out in the exhaust flow. I repacted them with a Ceramic batten. It's supposed to be better. We'll see. It's raining and cold, and I ain't gonna go out and work on anything.... One thing I'd like to know is when re-jetting, what size jets did everyone use?? My Gen2 is a 99RSV.
  15. Maybe someone should suggest to them that they put the email reader in 'out-of-the-office' mode with a note to call instead of write since it's so ineffective??
  16. Yeah, I dropped the scum bomb on them this morning, and actually notified CL last night when I found the item listed in several areas. If anyone cares do a search for on google. They're all over the place..... Almost as bad as a virus..
  17. I'm jealous........
  18. Personally I think the black is off. I'd have picked a darker gray. But then what do I know...... and if that's what you want, that's all that counts.
  19. Good call Joe. I'll have to remember that. At least it'll give us something to talk about for a while.... For everyone else, call off the St Bernards... I'm going back to look at the '99 coming up next week in an auction....
  20. Yeah I left the last name ex'd out, but I guess it doesn't make a lot of difference. It's SSgt Emily Danielson. Let me know what you come up with, and stay dry. We're getting the tail end of the front down here....
  21. I've been doing CL for just about forever, and if it is a scam it's one of the best I've ever seen. It's still worth checking it out just in case the thing is on the up'n'up.. Either way I'll be philosophical about the whole thing...
  22. The owner says she is a Staff Sgt at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. We do have a member listing in Anchorage, and thought I'd see if he could check it out, but don't want to do that until she responds to my last email.
  23. I've been looking around for a VW Dub Beetle for my daughter and found one that appeared on Craigslist yesterday. The ad looked good...sorta?? So I took a chance and responded to the email...which also looked good... sorta...?? After responding, I then did a national CL search on Google. The ad popped up in Pennsylvania, San Francisco Ca, and here is Sacramento. I figured, ah cr@p it's a scam. Then I received this response this morning. Hi, Thanks for replying to my ad. Emily xxxxxxxxxxxx So I wrote back stating that I was interested, and we'll see were it goes from here. If this is a scam, DAMN!! it's good. Some things that still bother me are.. No license plate on the car in the pics. The price is way cheap. Logistics..it's located in Anchorage. Pushy time frame... Condition is much better than what I'd expect being in AK?? What I like is she's not wanting me to pay for the thing up front. This one's really got me confoosed...
  24. You might also pic up a small hand pump off Ebay. There are some that put out 50psi. and others that'll go to 300psi. Unless you plan on pumping up the rear to the max 71psi the 50 will do. Do NOT use a compressor. You'll blow the seals...
  25. :sign yeah that: Plus add a couple cap fulls of a water wetter just because...
