  1. I'm jealous........
  2. Personally I think the black is off. I'd have picked a darker gray. But then what do I know...... and if that's what you want, that's all that counts.
  3. Good call Joe. I'll have to remember that. At least it'll give us something to talk about for a while.... For everyone else, call off the St Bernards... I'm going back to look at the '99 coming up next week in an auction....
  4. Yeah I left the last name ex'd out, but I guess it doesn't make a lot of difference. It's SSgt Emily Danielson. Let me know what you come up with, and stay dry. We're getting the tail end of the front down here....
  5. I've been doing CL for just about forever, and if it is a scam it's one of the best I've ever seen. It's still worth checking it out just in case the thing is on the up'n'up.. Either way I'll be philosophical about the whole thing...
  6. The owner says she is a Staff Sgt at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. We do have a member listing in Anchorage, and thought I'd see if he could check it out, but don't want to do that until she responds to my last email.
  7. I've been looking around for a VW Dub Beetle for my daughter and found one that appeared on Craigslist yesterday. The ad looked good...sorta?? So I took a chance and responded to the email...which also looked good... sorta...?? After responding, I then did a national CL search on Google. The ad popped up in Pennsylvania, San Francisco Ca, and here is Sacramento. I figured, ah cr@p it's a scam. Then I received this response this morning. Hi, Thanks for replying to my ad. I'm in a hurry to find a buyer because I have a family emergency and I need to sell it before December 9th. My name is Emily. I'm an Air Force Staff Sergeant stationed at the Elmendorf AF Base, Anchorage, Alaska. The car is here with me. I'm the original owner. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident...I do have the title, clear, under my name. Non-smoker. It is rust free, salt free and has a clean undercarriage. This 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS has 74,200 miles, Campanella with Tan Lether Interior, Automatic, FWD, Engine 2.0L L4 SFI SOHC 8V Gasoline. Here you can find more pictures of the car: http://s1228.photobucket.com/home/beetle_pics/index (if the above link does not work copy and paste it into a new web browser window). It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $2,999. If you want to buy this car I will take care of shipping. Shipping will be door to door, to your home address and I will offer 5 days to inspect the car from the moment you receive it (and the option to accept or reject the vehicle on my expense), before I'll have your money. So if you need further information please get back to me as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you. SSgt. Emily xxxxxxxxxxxx So I wrote back stating that I was interested, and we'll see were it goes from here. If this is a scam, DAMN!! it's good. Some things that still bother me are.. No license plate on the car in the pics. The price is way cheap. Logistics..it's located in Anchorage. Pushy time frame... Condition is much better than what I'd expect being in AK?? What I like is she's not wanting me to pay for the thing up front. This one's really got me confoosed...
  8. You might also pic up a small hand pump off Ebay. There are some that put out 50psi. and others that'll go to 300psi. Unless you plan on pumping up the rear to the max 71psi the 50 will do. Do NOT use a compressor. You'll blow the seals...
  9. :sign yeah that: Plus add a couple cap fulls of a water wetter just because...
  10. A Fork Brace will eliminate a lot of that tracking problem.
  11. Looks like it's got Autobahn written all over it.....
  12. This is just a thought, but most folks, when comparing a bulbs brightness, do it with the naked eye. I wonder what it might be if someone actually did a brightness test comparison with one of the older lightmeters used in photography? Maybe a Minolta spotmeter?? That would give an exact read and not be subjective...
  13. Check the valve clearance. There was a discusssion a while back about clearance effecting the compression. You stated that oil came out the valve, and just maybe the valve is not seating.....
  14. I suspect it's probably the cold temp speedo moan. I had it appear on the '83 and lubed the 'H' out of everything I could. It did seem to help, but not cure it totally. The real problem was that the upper connection to the speedo had come loose. I only found this out when R&Ring the dash later on. Gone14S had the same symptoms on his '84 when he bought it. I clued him in on the loose connector and he found that was the problem too. So you might want to pull the left hand turn signal assembly and reach in there to see if your's is loose also.
  15. On the high shipping, they're ripping Ebay off. The problem is Ebay doesn't do a thing about it. Maybe it's so insignificant that they can't be bothered, or things are getting so bad that they don't want to alienate a seller. There have been a lot of 'deals' offered lately to get sellers to list items. I've reported excessive shipping to them, but nothings ever done. What I think is humorus are the bike covers out of China. $.01 plus $17.00 shipping. There are tons of them on Ebay, and they don't pay a thing in end user fees. Heck I just bought 6 of them. They state that they are UV resistant and 'all' weather. We'll see when they come in. Back to the Ebay shipping.... I don't know if any of you are participating in the Ebay Bucks program, but Ebay only pays a spiff on the sold price, not shipping. So the seller is screwing the buyer too. On the high prices for Venture items, the itmes in demand will always bring bidding activity, i.e. pillow top seats... 1st-2ndGen chrome... but there are bunches of stuff that won't get a sniff. I'm watching Pinwall listing 50-100 items and only getting bids a small percentage. Hess4less has basically disappeared because of stuff going so cheap. Why go thru the trouble of listing stuff when it just sits. Private sellers don't want to waste their time. Occasionally I used to list items, but now they are more valuable to me then what they would bring on Ebay, so why bother. And I'm not alone...
  16. This YouTube is kinda long, but has some great VB action. The team is coached by my Niece Dana. See's doing a great job. She used to play VB for Texas A&M. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W57NxS1j66c&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - chino hills v oaks christian volleyball semifinal.wmv[/ame] The family's pretty proud of what she's done....
  17. The screen came from http://www.mcmaster.com/ And the Ceramic packing I picked up off Ebay. They would have cut it to size and sold direct, but I figured that what they had listed would work and went with the auction. It was a little thick at 1" but I found I could easily peal off about 1/4" to fit the baffle space. The corroded tips were polished out by britex a local parts polishing shop. They also cleaned up the baffles of rust in their bead blaster.
  18. I'm coming down the home stretch. I have the Bub's completed and ready to be installed. I went with a stainless steel screen over the baffles and a ceramic instead of fiberglass packing over the screen. The ceramic/stainless screen combination sounds like it may solve the problem of the disappearing packing. There was just a few tuft's of the fiber glass left when I disassembled them. Before changing them out I plan on taking a video/sound bite of the OEM's with 47K on them, and then the Bub's for comparison. It's gonna be interesting.....
  19. I'm toying with the idea of going home thru Kalispell and visit the Bro., but it all depends on how I feel after Cody. Maybe we can get a group together and form a 'Cody After Glow' ride to Glacier?? And maybe I can get Tom to cook breakfast for the group?? He likes to cook....
  20. OK, Another question. Obviously I'm not looking at investing, but more a long term hedge against inflation if the poop hits the fan. Beside silver and dirt, what other areas exist where someone can put their money and get the same results. Just trying to toss around some other ideas.... The one thing that bothers me about gold is the uncharacteristic rise in the value caused by panic buying. I don't want to end up roadkill...
  21. Ahhh.... Question answered. Wondered how I ended up #1 post.. Don's messin' with the posts again.....
  22. Well Al, to answer your first post.... It was there?? Don't know what happened to it?? On your second post, Glacier is a great place to visit. There are many smaller towns close by that offer Lodging. When in Kalispell we stay at the Motel 6. My bro lives in Kalispel... The Road to the Sun is a must do. http://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/goingtothesunroad.htm White Fish is kinda cool. Columbia Falls is also a good place to stay.
  23. Check the compression.....
  24. Sounds like the pig was on the spit.... For that kind of money you did good.... 'specially for one over the 1417 serial number. Keep us posted on how it works out...
  25. I had one come apart on my '83. I put it back to gether and it didn't feel like it was going to stay, so tweeked the leading edge on the metal sleeve, and it's been over 6000 miles with no problems. Maybe I was just lucky?? If you're able to replace the plastic slide make sure it's from a MKI. There are slight differences between the MKI and MKII diaphragm slides. Earl may be able to help you with the differences... Also, just because you stoled the bike doesn't mean the parts are going to be cheap too.....
