Mal-Ware Virus!!
Condor replied to Kregerdoodle's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Nope... didn't. Maybe I should of, but it's too late now. They're gone..gone..gone.... If this thing acts the way it's been discribed in this thread there's a good chance others have also received the virus email, and perhaps they will send a note. Then again they might not have been infected email at all, and notifying the sender would have set off unnecessary alarms, or... send my email to a fishing POP. I don't need that.... Like I said they looked fishy and not important. Because my business is .com, my email address is available all over the web. I don't need to confirm it with a warning response. Or open that bogus looking imbedded link that the email had..... If the email was important, they'll send it again..... -
Mal-Ware Virus!!

I down loaded email this morning and received about 4 from different sources that just looked 'fishy'. One from a board member. Killed them all...... arghhh!!!! -
As long as the basics are covered you should have any problem, i.e. fresh tires and fluids. In '07 I rode my '83VR from Sacramento to Ft Collins Co. and back via Idaho, and she didn't miss a beat. Ended up putting 3,000+ miles on the odo. The first legs were mostly in a group, but the last day from Shoshone ID to the barn was solo, 10 hours in the saddle, 600 miles, and it was a piece of cake.

Billet Air Cleaner Covers
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I didn't find them listed on the Y site, but I think the MSRP retail was $459. So, yeah about a third of new. But.... probably half that of a discounter. I don't know why they chromed them in the first place. Polished aluminum looks just as good and is easier to maintain. -
Ideas to fix this oil leak
Condor replied to mlew's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Crush washer?? -
Picked up a set of covers off Ebay that weren't in the greatest shape. Had the chrome stripped off and professionally polished for $50 bucks, so I'm in them right around $150 total. Lot better price that buying a new set. Whacha think?

First Gen Clutch Replacement
Condor replied to Harmonicashawn's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like all you'll need is some new discs and a spring.... Let us know what the old discs mic out at when you have the time. -
Check your last oil change to make sure the oil didn't have friction modifiers in it. Also check your expansion hole in the bottom of your reserve. It may be plugged?? Also when's the last time you bled the clutch??

Whatcha think about this 17mm tool?
Condor replied to Beau-Kat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Afraid of that. Think I'll pass. This thread did produce some great suggestions. When I needed one I couldn't find anything, and no one had any suggestions outside of the 1/2" bolt trick, so I ended up buying a 17mm hex wrench from Sears and cutting 2" off the end, and welding it into an old beater socket. Looks ugly, but worked great. Wish I knew what I did with it after the fork job was done.... -

First Gen Clutch Replacement

I gotta ask one question. Forgive me if it's already been covered. What clutch symptoms are you experiencing that makes you think the clutch is worn or wearing out? -
What a great post. Thanks for that Neil. It's been saved. Also noticed that the CB antenna is mounted on the right side in the pics. Guess they were confused...even back then...

Didn't say you were, and the purpose of this site is to exchange information, and hopefully save folks a few bucks because of it. Let us know what you find once you get in there.... -
First Gen Clutch Replacement

What I can't understand is why someone, when they suspect their clutch may need attention, goes for the juggler and wants to rebuild the entire system... and spend big bucks... Most clutches I've been into are not worn out. They slip because of other problems. Bad slave, dirty fluid, plugged pressure relief hole, wrong engine oil, etc. And in most cases if it actually does need help, a new set of discs and spring(s) are all they ever need. The double disc behind the keeper wire doesn't even need to be replaced. It's there for a reason, and because it's a wet clutch wears very little. A set of the larger discs, a cover gasket, and spring...maybe... will run less than a 'C' note. It's one of the easiest jobs one can do on a Venture. MY -
