First Gen Clutch Replacement

I gotta ask one question. Forgive me if it's already been covered. What clutch symptoms are you experiencing that makes you think the clutch is worn or wearing out? -
What a great post. Thanks for that Neil. It's been saved. Also noticed that the CB antenna is mounted on the right side in the pics. Guess they were confused...even back then...

Didn't say you were, and the purpose of this site is to exchange information, and hopefully save folks a few bucks because of it. Let us know what you find once you get in there.... -
First Gen Clutch Replacement
Condor replied to Harmonicashawn's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What I can't understand is why someone, when they suspect their clutch may need attention, goes for the juggler and wants to rebuild the entire system... and spend big bucks... Most clutches I've been into are not worn out. They slip because of other problems. Bad slave, dirty fluid, plugged pressure relief hole, wrong engine oil, etc. And in most cases if it actually does need help, a new set of discs and spring(s) are all they ever need. The double disc behind the keeper wire doesn't even need to be replaced. It's there for a reason, and because it's a wet clutch wears very little. A set of the larger discs, a cover gasket, and spring...maybe... will run less than a 'C' note. It's one of the easiest jobs one can do on a Venture. MY -

I thought it was the same bike that sold on Ebay about a year ago from Kingman Az., but this one isn't 'minty' enough.. It finally sold for $6500, and it took 3 listings before it finally got a bid. Mint with a very slight dent in the tank. I was looking at it, and did swap a few Emails and pics with the seller. I'll be surprised if this one sells right away, if at all??....

"Proper Tool for Proper Job, Air Shocks"

Yea Ebay!!!! I probably have less in the two pumps than most have in just one.... And yep it's nice.... -
Yep need to send that one back to the dealer. If you bought it online contact AVON warantee and let them take care of the shipping costs plus replace the tire. They'll probably want the thing handled by a dealer, but since they don't have to pay for the mounting and balancing they should be agreeable.

I have 2 pumps. A 0-30 progressive style pump for the fronts, and a Progressive 0-60 for the rear. Both have no-loss chucks. Works for me.... -
Just got to thinking.... Yes occasionally the gray matter does kick in, in a warped kind of way.... In the US the big contributors to MC accidents are dubbed 'Left Hand Louie's'. Since the UK... and other British Colonies... drive on the wrong side of the road, what do they call a right handed 'no-see-m' accident???

You might see if your emergency shut off switch is in the run position, and maybe check the ignition switch to see if the thing is plugged in...??? Just a thought....

Like I said, if they make you happy, by all means keep running them.

I stand corrected. Just went out and looked at the '87...again, and they are black. My bad... Now has anyone ever seen a 'yellowish/gray'?? Thanks for doing the leg work and looking it up Carl. I don't have the 1stGen Parts listing.

And here's mine.... I have never heard of any other tire brand throwing caps or delaminating like the Metzlers, and it's not an isolated instance, or bike specific. Do a google search and read up on it. However, if that's what you like by all means keep runing them. Tires are not all the same when it comes to tire pressures due to design and performance, but one rule is constant, run any tire underinflated and you will cause cupping.

The slotted' rotors appeared on the MKII. The big problem is that the fork and wheels are somewhat interchangeable, as long as the rotors are kept with the appropriate calipers. Who knows...maybe they changed from year to year after the 86 came out?? I know that my 87, 90,91, and 93 all have the brushed aluminum finish. My '83 and '84 are black. I did read Marcarls post that his '89 were black and looked original. Maybe it's a Canadian thing??
