  1. I remember that one Rick.... I like yours better.... :-)
  2. Fascinating stuff youse guys.... Got any stickers on the new ride YET?? :-)
  3. Are you refering to the screw in the gas cap or the tank front mounting screw???
  4. Betcha gotta have some serious muscle to steer that thing...... Gotta be like the tail wagging the dog.... :-)
  5. Maybe I should go check mine?? Only use it to check the news before turning out the lights... But I think videos play OK??
  6. Looks like a fun ride Eck. Looks like photo-op porn. 'Course you're gonna post some pics when it does... :-)
  7. Take a Valium and check back with us in the AM......
  8. Might I make a suggestion... Don't do it!! Sun reflecting off that thing will blind you when you least expect it.... I couldn't wait to get that thing off an RSV after I bought it....
  9. I don't think that would stop it from turning over in this case. I replaced mine on the '07. Ran fine, the next day I moved it across the street to make room for garage sailors and it ran like cr@p. Tried to move it back home and the thing would turn over, but wouldn't fire. Fuel pump. Bought a new OEM... before I knew about the points...., and it cured the problem... In this case I'd put money on the ignition switch...
  10. All the kill switch is, is an inline connector. They do corrode if not used. That's why I always shut the motor off with it. Generally toggling it on and off a bunch of times will get the thing working again. You might have to spay some contact cleaner on it from the outside... no need to disassemble... I don't know where it connects to the ignition switch.. never had to go that deep. Because these bikes run electrical though the ignition switch they will fail. There is a by-pass being made by one of our members that will get you going again. Quite a few riders have installed the by-pass just because... A little PM...
  11. Just a thought... Starter relay?? Ignition switch???
  12. And I'm hoping that someone bids the 'H' out of it. I really don't need it, but if it stays cheap I'll be their Huckleberry.... :-)
  13. Thanks for the comments Van. Some good thoughts. Like I mentioned in a previous post I rode a '79 R100/7 back in the day and liked it. So I'm not a nu-be to BMW. The reputation of the GS was one of the reasons I had it as my top choice for the 'bucket' Alaska trip.
  14. I missed that... nice catch... Looks like the hose from the reserve down to the rear master.. If it is a brake problem that's something I do know a little about... :-)
  15. Going cheap is what I'm afraid of.... It's like tossing the dog a bone....
  16. I saw that but those boxers can last a while... The age doesn't bother me... I have four VR's that are older.... And... when you get as old as me??? It would have to be sitting on the rear wheel to get the oil to not show.. Maybe it evaporated?? :-) I owned a 1979 R100/7 that felt good, and I also like the feet back position of the 1stGens... It's just a personal. Lots of riders complain a lot about the foot position... I think anything that allows any stretch forward once in a while is a good thing...
  17. Years ago I had a bucket list that included doing Alaska. The plan was to pick up a BMW 1100GS, ride it up and back, and sell it at the end of the summer, but that was long ago and obviously didn't happen. Now I run across this GS, and just because it's in my blood stream it sparked some old memories... It's up for auction, non-op'ed for 5 years, and in one of the pics it looks like there isn't any oil showing in the sight glass... Am I nutz to be even be looking at this thing??? https://www.westauction.com/auction/1999/item/1996-bmw-r1100gs-touring-motorcycle-249592
  18. I've always had a great working relationship with my boss, and never felt like I was put under the scope.... Been self employed for over 40 years...
  19. Cooling system theme song......
  20. The only Royal Star in 2007 was a Venture that I know of.... Except for the one time on my '07 I've ridden several different Ventures in 100+ heat, and a couple of times with hellacious cross winds, and never felt any heat off the motor. However I do wear riding boots. I'd suggest servicing your bike as well.
  21. This is not a problem with any of the RSV's. My '07 was extremely comfortable to ride even in the hottest of weather..... Until the seals went in the water pump and she barfed coolant all over the parking lot at VW 2014 in Yreka CA. Coming back from a ride to happy camp in 112degs she cooked my shins, and BBQ'd my butt. She got so hot that I had to slide back onto the passenger seat, and when I dropped the sidestand in the motel parking lot it took about 30 seconds for her to pee green. She blew the water pump seals and had oil in the coolant, and probably plugged up the thermostat?? Soo.... you might want to check your cooling system..
  22. If I didn't already own two trailers I'd be on that like white on rice.....
  23. At my age the 10 years was in another lifetime... :-)
  24. Kay Dee Six Uncle Ocean Tom.... Got the Ham tech ticket in order to apply for a full Mexican General when cruising down in the Sea of Cortez. MX will grant a general to anyone that holds a US Ham. Had the ICOM 735 marine on the boat opened up to Ham as well, so could talk to anyone... any where.... That was many years ago. Did renew once, but the last time they got greedy and I wasn't active any longer so let it expire... I think??
