  1. For anyone coming or going east, to or from, Cody it looks really cool, but for a day ride out of Cody, during the rally, it might be a little too far. The map sez 314 miles one direction. DEVILS TOWER
  2. Devils advocate here. It's one thing to be noticed, and another to blind oncoming traffic. Even LED headlights in a car hurt my eyes. Try looking directly into an LED flashlight sometime. That kind of a display will sure mess up my driving ability. Thump...Thump.... Oooops, what was that?? Didn't see the motorcycle officer, I was blinded by a UFO.....
  3. 'Cause ya gotta duck Gary.....
  4. OK I stand corrected. The '85's are kinda an odd duck.... Maybe we should call 'm a MKI.V??
  5. Heck, we don't even have an Advance Auto within 100 miles...... If it's the DEKA EXT18L at that price I'd take 6 or so.... just because... and all the 1st Gens around here.... Too bad they aren't doing the ETR20L....
  6. I know this is an old post Steve but all questions deserve an answer. Better late than never... The fuel access doors are keyed on the MKI's (83-85) and The gas cap is keyed on the MKII's (86-93)
  7. The top rail of my trailer is about 3' off the floor, and I use a Canyon Dancer on the grips, and since my wheel chock is a couple of 2x4's I strap the front wheel snug up to the front wall. 2 lines off the rear keeps the back wheel from moving around.
  8. Whew!!! Thanks for digging that info out. Feel better now, and will cancel the psych appointment.....
  9. Coulda swore that when I took the weights off my '99 I had to use a hex wrench to get them off, and those were the same type?? Guess not?? Halucinating again...
  10. My '99RSV has this style..... which sounds like what fits an RSTD??
  11. The controller on the '91 took me 3 solderings before the E4 finally disappeared.
  12. VELCRO......
  13. Here's what I'll end up doing first thing.... Install Speed-Bleeders. Then on the left front before pumping up the caliper to apply the new pads, I leave them pressed into the caliper. This accomplishes two things. #1 it makes the caliper cavity smaller, and #2 it makes it easy to pump clear fluid through the line without having to pump/crack/pump..etc.. Once the air is out of the lines then close off the bleeder and pump up the pads. Same thing with the back brake. Always start with the bleeder farthest from the master. This will also work with the front right brake.
  14. Are they the same as those on an RSV???
  15. Nah... they taste like frog's legs......
  16. Hey Shaun, Does the clutch slip right from the git-go, or does it start slipping after running a while and get progressively worse?? If it does you might not need a clutch rebuild, but a bleed. Also when you changed the oil the last time around, did you happen to use a brand and weight with friction modifiers. The reason I ask is is there are a few things that need to be considered before just blindily jumping into a clutch rebuild. Just trying to save you a few bucks.... When I first picked up my '83 the clutch slipped and I ended up dumping a lot of money into replacing and rebuilding everything, when all it was, was a plugged expansion hole in the reserve... Also on an '83 you can get by with a set of Barnet springs from Buckeye Performance for less than $20 bucks. I'd suggest trying that first before going for the juggler.....
  17. I picked it up off Ebay. It wasn't cheap.... 'bout $40.00 bucks. The seller makes them himself one-on-one. Here's a listing [ame=http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorcycle-GPS-Mount-Zumo-Ram-base-1-/190526042242?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5c3cb082]190526042242[/ame] Hope the link works, but if not, that's the number...
  18. Basically the same set up as I used except I didn't like that funky U-bolt clamp. Yep, gotta agree.... there ain't no such thing as a 'sticky' cup.... :cody
  19. Maybe?? No not smoke... The wheels act as gyro's and will resist force at a 90 deg angle from the force. If you hold a gyro and try to swing it back and forth it will try to go left or right. Try it sometime... So perhaps the wheels are resisting the side force and making the bike speed up or slow down a bit?? But only at a 90 deg force. If the wind is a little forward or back of 90 degs it might cause the bike to lean into the wind.... I think??
  20. I added up all the accessories and bling on the RSV, and it's close to 5 large new. You're just getting started......
  21. Yep... A V6 w/FI based on the new V-Max 1700, and I'd be very tempted to take the hit.....
  22. Do it again. It took 3 times before I finaly beat the controller on the '91 into submission... :cody
  23. Doing the clutch is probably one of the easiest major maintenence jobs you can do on a Venture. No difference other than the springs from 83-present. We did Rich99's a few years ago.. my first 2ndGen.. and it was still a piece of cake. You don't even need to take the bike off the side stand, or drain the oil. Buy a set of disc's from one of the part's suppliers. Rick at Buckeye Performance is very helpfull on what you'll need, and have at it.
