seat replacement
Condor replied to tomfromhull's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
One of our members Rick Butler reworks seats. You might try contacting him about raising the sitting position. Sounds like the previous owner has taken some of the padding out..... -
Nah... No contest.. Haven't got the Lip flappy thing down yet.... but I'm working on it. Love the sound they put out. The one I have is original but more a souvenier than a player. Check this guy out if you want to take a lesson. He's good... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzqZDNalBCk]DIGERIDOO[/ame]

Cylinder Fin cover gromets
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just called my local Y dealer again and talked to the parts dept mgr.. What a difference. The kid quoted me $8.11 out the door, but apparently they have me set up as a resaler and this time it was $2.85 each. Much better. I love it when things go my way..... -

Yep... flushing the coolant is on my 2do list Rick. Any time I can do two things at once... like walking and chewing gum... it's a good thing.... -
Check all your banjo bolts and make sure you have good crush washers and they are tight. Then install speed-bleeders. Once you get them installed there's no need to do the 'pump up-crack open-pump up' dance, just pump..pump..pump.... Should get all the air out of the line in 5 minutes total, and it's a one man job. When the air is out, then close the bleeder valve and pump up the line presure. Once the left front is bled do the same thing to the rear. Don't forget to keep the reserve level up...

Oh yeah... I hear ya!! I've canceled many online orders right at the end because the shipping didn't match the purchase. The trouble is that a lot of the larger estores try to make up on a sale price by packing the shipping cost. Four of these plugs should run around $2 bucks to ship... $1 buck for the stamps and $1 buck for the padded envelope, but I can live with $5 flat rate USPS. Any more than that and they get 'X'd'.... -
VERY COOL....

Barrnett SR2 Clutch Upgrade
Condor replied to teza51's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If that's all you did was replace the pressure plate with the Barnet you have the Barnet plate installed wrong. Take a look at this page. It explains how the plate needs to be rotated until it seats down on the discs. It only fits one way. The OEM plate is marked where to seat it. The Barnet is not. The majority of the lever return pressure is generated by the pressure plate. -
Barrnett SR2 Clutch Upgrade
Condor replied to teza51's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Take the pressure plate off and then gently pull the lever. You should be able to feel movement of the push rod with your finger. If you have no movement the problem could be the rods binding up to the master cylinder binding. If you do feel movement then it's in you clutch pack assembly. Chances are you don't have the pressure plate installed properly. Be careful removing the clutch cover and you should be able to reuse the gasket.... -
OK this is my Final question....

Lynn- I sent you a PM, and then went to look at a 2003 Venture final. Wow!! That hole's bottom edge comes close to the worm gear. Did you pull the worm out before drilling?? If not it's definately above my skill level. Maybe do-able if it comes out. Especially getting the sensor hole within tolerances so it won't leak. I didn't measure the opening and not sure if it's even a standard MM?? Looks to be about 25mm...?? But a drill bit may not even work... -
My wife had her's done at 65. They wouldn't do them until then. I think it's based on how long they expect the prothesis to last. 10 years seems about what I'd heard. So I think at 75 you don't have many years left and will go without.

Thanks guys... I sure would have missed that one. Just called my local Y dealer, and the kid quoted me $8.11 ea. out the door. Boatparts has them at $4.74 ea plus shipping. Think I need to do a little online shopping. -
replacing the ignition
Condor replied to PapaAl86's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The ignition cluster is held on by two bolts that can be reached using a long...14".. 1/4 drive extension and going up through the steering head area. There's a mass of wires to snake through but it can be done. To reinstall go buy a couple of hex head screws. Makes it easier to get the screw started again. -
I'm about ready to start swapping out the fin covers for a set of blacks, and after reading about coolant leaks coming from under the covers I thought I'd go ahead and do a little PM and order new gaskets. After looking at the parts schematic I'm confused. It shows something called a Damper Engine Mount. #37 and #40. And they sure don't look like a seal to me. Are these things rubber, and do they seal anything??

Joe, Do you know if he did the gear swap himself?? I did talk to the folks who did Freebird's and they shot me a trade/offer involving them keeping the RSV gears and V-Max housing. After thinking about it it's sounding better and better. -
I'm not even going to comment on this..... :rotf:

OK this is my Final question....
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Squeeze. Wasn't sure if it was press fit or threaded. Yep, if it isn't plugged up it'd let all the dark out.... The older V-Max Final has the stud hack sawed off. Not a bad job, but still not good. May have to drill, and use an easy out. Not delusional although I do halucinate occassionally. I've noticed that the '99 goes just as fast... maybe even a little faster... then the '91.... when coasting down a long grade in neutral. -
Why not the real thing......

OK this is my Final question....
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If the entire gear train were swapped out from one housing to another, and the backlash were OK in the original housing, what would cause the BL to go out of adjustment if the housing are machined within tolerances.... ?? Although it would be nice to swap them out, I do have another V-Max final that has the shock stud lopped off, and would work on a 1stGen Venture. Maybe a little machining for the speed sensor might be an option to fit it to a 2ndGen??? Thank's for the .pdf's.... They helped. -
OK this is my Final question....
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I might not either, that's why the questions. On the backlash, I wonder if plasti-gauge could be used to check engagement depth?? Also wonder what the special tool(s) could be??? I don't want to screw anything up either.... -
Let's see..??? 100 miles.... fill'r up.....100 miles.....fill'r up.....100 miles... fill'r up... :rotfl:

We're having some freaky weather lately, and I think it's due to ocean temps rising a couple of degrees over normal. With Japan moving 13 feet closer to the Pacific Coast, it's probably opened up fissures making for a big El Niño... It only take a couple of degrees to mess things up. Right now Hawaii is running a couple of degrees warmer..... HAWAII OCEAN TEMPS

Has anyone here swapped out the gears from a V-Max final with a 2ndGen final, and if so is it much of a hassle? Second. Is the stud in the V-Max final for the left shock easily removable? Here's the deal. I have spares of each and thought I'd swap out the gears and have a low geared RSV final, and a sellable high geared V-Max final to offset some of the costs, and I'll still have the original on the '99 to keep as a spare.
