  1. We have a buckle maker who has donated to the Cody Rally. http://www.cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/exoticstainless.gif The link is on the DONOR PAGE
  2. I have. Put MKII forks on the '83 with R1 calipers. Left the AD's on and buried the wiring, and moved the Progressives over from the old forks. You also need to use the MKII rotors. Bought all the parts off Ebay over a period of time. Total outlay was a little over $125 for the front fork/triple tree assembly, R1's, and Rotors. Vast improvement over the OEM 2 piston calipers.
  3. What weight oil are you using?? Around here I go to 20w50 during the hot months, and 10w40 during the winter.
  4. Nah.... Then I'd just go out and buy a Harley, and get one of them accessory drip pans....
  5. Whew!!! You rock Brad. Got tears reading that one.....
  6. I'd think it all depends on why you need to replace the header?? If it's rust due to your climate, humidity, and salt water inviornment, I'd replace both... just because. If you crunched it, and the other side looks OK then replace the one side. Never have had to replace the header but being on the outside it shouldn't be all that much of a hassle...
  7. I sold out of the group buy fork braces late last year, but lately a few members have expressed interest in more... so I just ordered another 10 braces and they should be shipped out this Friday. If anyone is interested go to FORK BRACES for pricing and pics. For those newer members that aren't sure what an improved brace will do, they make the forks works together, improving straight line stopping, rough roads, and making it easier to hold a line when cornering. One of the best bang for the buck improvements you can install on your bike. Condor
  8. I can't get used to the H/T shifter so going to Toe only. Plus I'm seriously considering getting rid of the floorboards and going with pegs....
  9. I thought about that too, but if he looses his ISP can he still pull the money out of Paypal?? Maybe a snail mail check would be more helpfull??? If enough of the 'family' get together and send a few bucks I bet we can ease the pain. That's what families are for... Right??
  10. Great Job!!
  11. Your '83 CB was aftermarket. The '89 should have a PTT CB control on the left side near the clutch reserve.
  12. That really frosts me when companies do that. Dangle the carrot, and then make it super difficult to get it. $50 bucks is fifty bucks and the customer should be able to use it anyway they wish. If they were truthful and told about all their restrictions up front they might not have had as many buyers. Another strike against Avon....
  13. Yep, I agree with Don. Not many members in the area, and if any are like me they avoid the city like the plague. The place is a zoo.... Now if you ever get up to the port of Sacramento or Stockton, give me a shout....
  14. I originally went with Venoms on the '83VR on Buddy Rich's recommendation back in '07. Loved the handling, but was one of the first to experience bad... actually scary.. front tire sidewall cracking after Venture West Susanville. Avon replaced the tire with another with only 2 months difference in the DOT date.. About 6 month later the second one started to go, but not quite as bad... Replaced the second, and #3 is doing good at 6K miles with Ft Collins and Cody '09 on them. So third time must be the charm... I decided to go with the E3's on the '99RSV because of the similar tread pattern to the Venom's. So far no problems, but I haven't logged a lot of miles on them either. What puzzles me that some riders are getting great performance from the Avons, while others are not. Since they told Don that there has been no change in the compound formula, what is causing the problem?? Avon has been very tight lipped on the subject... Quality control??
  15. That schematic should help, plus here's a few of the underside and inside. Me thinks I need to get in there and clean up some chrome...
  16. I'll try to take a few pics later today, but maybe somebody will beat me to it??
  17. We lost my wife's father to lung cancer. He was a smoker. 7 years later we lost her mom to the same type cancer and she never smoked a day in her life. Second hand smoke does kill.... Prayers to you, your mom, and your family.
  18. Not only are we getting down to the wire with 11 tickets left, but there are only 13 days left before the gavel falls and the sale is over. Who's going to buy the last ticket??
  19. Yep, the views are breath taking, and after July a lot of members are going to be able to say 'Been there... Done that'.... Truly a bucket list ride.
  20. Whazat?? 68f...?? Hey I'm good down to 50.. My ridin' rules are between 50 and 80 and dry.... Left my vents open on the skid lid the last time we went over BearTooth and it was 35f at the top. I dang near froze the tops of my ears off. Couldn't figure out why they hurt so much until the pain started to go away when it warmed up in Red Lodge.. :cody
  21. Maybe they're the child proof variety.....
  22. Just relating my experiences, you probably have something going on I'm not familiar with...
  23. I've had the slow idle return on several bikes. Everytime it was a sync problem in that the idle was being controlled by the right side carbs and not #2. It usually happens when a previous owner adjusts the idle by using the sync screw next to #4. It will actually work... sorta.... but it will screw up the sync. The bikes always responded by backing off the rightside carbs, and the #1 carb and starting from scratch with the #2 carb controlling the idle. Afterwards the throttle is responsive and returns quickly to a smooth idle.
  24. I've been wondering lately on what the road conditions over Beartooth Pass would be like for the Rally in Cody. With all the weather they've been getting, and BT always being dicey, I thought it still might be snowed in. Not so. The highway is actually open thanks the the various agencies responsible for road up keep. It might be a tad cold and it would be a good idea to bring your cold weather gear. It even got a little nippy on top in '09. Here's the site for up-to-date reports. BEERTOOTH Looks like it'll dry out by late July. :cody
