Never checked my E3's when I got them from Jake Wilson. They looked new so I installed them. I'm not sold on this 6 year thing as it just gives everyone something else to be paranoid about. They're not going to mysteriously self distruct 6 years from the DOT date. As long as the tire wasn't sitting out exposed in a field somewhere, and stored inside, they should be fine. And, I've even had E2's on early 1stGens that had been sitting out in the weather, and run them without a problem.

For those members staying at the Ponderosa it's important that you tell them you're with the Venture Rider Group when checking in... as if it wouldn't be obvious .... Anyway they have agree'd to give us a rate less than their normal summer rates. When we first announced the Rally, way back last year, members in the know jumped on the cabins before we could talk to the Ponderosa about a rate like we had in '09. We just assumed that it would be biz as usual. Not!! We dropped the ball, but thanks to Kurt (Starstruk) the problem has been resolved. Just remember to tell them you Ride a Venture....

Need a 2ndGen RSV truck rack
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm finding that out. Started looking, and all I could find were new, with a hefty price tag... I've bought intire ventures for less... So Plan B, getting the thing welded up and then rechromed, will probably happen before Plan A. . Nice winter project... BTW I did see one nice condition used on Ebay for $350 and free shipping from some dealer in Fla... I think. I also googled the part number, and got a ton of hits, so maybe with the RSV being discontinued prices will start coming down because of the glut sitting on the shelves... Even though there hard to find there's not a bunch of folks running around looking for them either. -
(trunk..typo) Went out to wire up the trailer pigtail and do some antena work this morning, and when I removed the trunk to get at the CB I found that the left front bracket was busted off completely. The break was rusted up pretty good so it probably happened before I bought it. Anyway... Anyone have a rack left over from a trike conversion or from a trunk mod?? I can get by for the time being with just the 3 attachment points, but it would be nice to replace the whole rack. BTW its ugly rusted too, or I'd take it down to the muffler shop and have it rewelded....

Couldn't agree with you more George. Tingling and fingers going to sleep are the first signs of Carpal, and it doesn't get any better, it'll only get worse. I kept fighting it til my right hand went to sleep and didn't wake up. I've had both wrists done and couldn't be happier. Now I can ride all day, and before I couldn't make it two blocks without having to shake the hands out.

Here's what I did to an extra set I picked up off Ebay. The masking was a PITA but they came out 'respectable'....

July 4th it was 104 here. For the last 5 days it's been down in the low 80's. Supposed to warm up into the high 80's over the weekend.... It's that damn volcano!!

Very nice!! On the fins you might try cleaning the tips off. Attached is a pic set I did last winter on my '99.

Removing a half full tank, cowling, bars, etc. Time consuming and a PITA. Don's strawberry shortcut is a lot easier and quicker. -

I did Gary... and I don't know what I did with it??? Besides according to Don's write up it's not all that easy to get to the jam nuts, and tapping at them a little is more along my time constraints. Leaving for Cody in 7 days, and still have maintence to do. Bled the brakes and clutch this AM. The brake fluid was a little discolored, but when I popped off the top of the clutch reserve it was about one stage under 'tar'. I've never run into one that black. I don't think it had ever been bled and it's a '99, and I hate to think what the inside of the slave looks like... I'll probably 'tap' on the nuts tomorrow in the AM. Sorry... Now if I ever repack the steering head bearings I'll definately find that wrench... :cody -
Another thought. When carrying extra fuel around there is the possibility of not using it for a long period of time. Perhaps a dash of Sea Foam will keep the fuel from seperating.... REI carries an aluminum gas container, and since I'm not real sure what kind of milage I'll be getting, I'm gonna pay them a visit before leaving for Cody. :cody

You could wire a short lead off the trailer wiring under the seat with just the flat plug peeking out from under the passenger seat, and then make a longer pigtail to go down to the trailer plug. When you aren't pulling a trailer you could unplug the pigtail from the shorty and stow it in the saddle bag.

Yep they's slow.... but those 2ndGens just think they're faster.... http://www.google.com/url?source=imgres&ct=img&q=http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dGerwl_bpjg/TWGF_7ZkMCI/AAAAAAAAHww/cqS-qbSqXjM/s1600/the-tortoise-and-the-hare.JPG&sa=X&ei=0lgeTqOUD-fZiALmvemZAw&ved=0CAQQ8wc&usg=AFQjCNFNdX7EuMyCcyskTDiNYzAvYpbnSw

2006 RSTD Slip-on Exhaust
Condor replied to Patrolman46's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I bought and rebuilt a set of Bubbs over the winter, and just installed them yesterday. I did a few things different in the rebuild so hopefully they'll last a little longer than the first time around. By the time I get to Cody they should be broken in properly.... I did try to take a video of the bike, but I guess I didn't press the right button on the camera. I'll try again tomorrow. They have a deep throaty rumble and a very slight bark when getting it on.... The sound is great. :cody -

Thanks for the help Don. It's on the list for 'maintenence morning' in the AM. Doing it now would cut into my siesta time.... -
Steering head adjustment
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
OK just double checked. Here's what I'm finding. Very hard to keep the bar centered, and when I do and breathe on them they starting heading for the stops. After hitting the stops they bounce off about 2" and then settle back down onto the stops... Only one bounce, but a pretty good one. On the '83 I had them adjusted so they would fall off center with a gentle nudge and go to the stops... no bounce. That's why I felt these needed a little snugging up... So whatcha think?? -

Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok, I'll double check.... Even if you make it look so easy, if I don't need to do it at all, it's a plus... BTW, Thanks for that write up. -
The MKII's are an upgrade and will fit. See if you can find complete triple tree assembly on Ebay. You will need to upgrade the calipers to MKII's or R1's, as well as the rotor on the front tire to MKII. You'll be amazed at the difference in the ride and braking. BTW the Anti-Dives are electronic on the MKII forks. With the Progressive's just leave them disconected. Skydoc_17 sells a block-off plate if you want to remove them totally. There are a lot of posts on this board concerning this mod. Do a search for R1 Calipers
