Pulling a trailer
Condor replied to bucfan11's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
That's interesting. I'm aware of advertising wraps, but never thought about wrapping instead of paint... My black Legend's lid is toast. I've tried color sanding, rubbing compound, wax buffing, and nothing gets it to where it matches the rest of the trailer... Just wrapping the lid in black might be the answer.... and a lot cheaper... -
Happy New Year!!! Only 356 days left til Christmas.......

Pulling a trailer

Amazing MPG pulling a trailer. With my '99RSV my mileage goes to hell in a hand basket... Like a horse eating oats.... :-) -
83 venture modified for solo riding
Condor replied to MoonShine's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Interesting concept. I rarely ride two up, but personally on long trips of over a week I've found that the passenger seat is a great place to bungee down that duffel bag loaded with clothes, and it also makes a great back rest... :-) -
Clutch Question for 2nd Gens
Condor replied to BlueSky's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think I'd bleed the clutch and make sure you've got all the air out???? -
Christmas Songs, one of my favorites. You got one? Two? 100?

:clap2: I love bagpipes... yada thunk I was Scottish... Here's my all time favorite.... -
Had the same issue with the '99rsv before riding to the cody wy international. 17vdc on the meter. Didn't have time to change it before leaving. Took 3 days for the Deka battery to croak 80 miles from cody in thermopolis. Bought a wet cell locally and made it the rest of the way. While in cody with the help of Dano we replaced the rectifier. Recharged the Deka and it lasted another 4 years....

OK... Now I'm dizzy...again.. :-) -
I can tell that's a Michigan car by the serious case of rust going on in the rear quarter panel.... We don't have the problem out here on the left coast... What's it's name?? 'Rusty'...

Non-Lolly Pop signals
Condor replied to AmnChode's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Without some sort of pic to see what you are talking about, it's hard to visualize. Here's a pic of some Harley add ons on my '04. As far as replacing a lens cover, they are all over the place on eBay. -
I tried a bulletin board 'for sale' page on my website years ago. Once the spammers discovered it...didn't take long... it became a mess. Because I'm not cut out to be an Admin and have the patients to deal with the cr@p I deleted it.... DEATH TO SPAMMERS!!!!!

Grocery shopping with Tippy = $45 BSA 6x24 Power Target Scope!!
Condor replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
That scope should work great with that Model 60 .22. No recoil to mess things up. 500 yds might be a little enthusiastic tho... A while back the Brunton Co., a distributor in Riverton Wy, must have had a huge blow out on Brunton scopes and they ended up all over the place on eBay. They generally sold for around $45 and were made in China. I bought one to take a look at it, and then bought quite a few more 'cause they were very nice. MOF there are some that were private labeled NRA. I haven't looked in years, but here's one for $20 bucks including shipping. Most are listed for $100 bucks or so. Ida went for it, but I still have a few still in the box. I do have a 4-16x50 mounted on my Remington Model 7 in .222rem. It's kinda over kill, but what the hey... When ya got it...flaunt it... :-) -
Anybody have an extra one of these?
Condor replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
WOW!! I didn't know they were still available new. I lost my first one on the freeway about 15min after buying my first '83VR. Had to pick one up off eBay. Poor design with those keeper tabs on the sides easily breaking off and the thing getting legs. Afterwards I started gluing them in... -
Same here Chuck....

There's a very good chance that your gun was a Navy Arms. They were the first to bring in BP's from Italy and started the 'copy' revolution, and the barrel was rifled... That haze or smoke was called the 'Fog of War'. Can you imagine what it looked like during the civil war when thousands of black powder rifles and pistols, on both sides, were fired at Bull Run... or Antietam... or?? Now days you can walk into most sporting goods stores carrying BP and buy what you need in black powder and ball... They even have BP substitutes. Pyrodex. And... since I'm on a roll here. I just picked up another BP. A Pietta 1858 Target with a 12" barrel. Later on they were better known as Buntlines..
-
Yeah I do Zag with modern center fire cartridges, but with BP it's sorta load as you go. You don't purchase the ammo. The BP revolver was the first design of something that allowed more than the lather-rinse-repeat single shot muzzle loaders. But even then after usually 6 shots the gun required reloading one cylinder at a time before getting back into service again. Time consuming.. To quicken the process guns that allowed interchangeable cylinders were created... I'm not a big fan of muzzle loaders, but like the single actions and the western provenance they represent....
-
I've been kinda intrigued with black powder guns for a while now, and have maybe 10, or so, single action Italian copies 'cause I can't afford the real thing... I also like that they are FFL free in most states, and can be shipped straight to my door in war torn California . And holding true to form of liking 'different' types of any gun I just picked up this one... just because.

There used to be about a half dozen or so Venture Riders up here in the Sacramento area, and Buddy Rich lived in Stockton before moving to Texas. Over the years most have moved on to other things or like in my case gotten too old to ride... LoneEagle {Vic} lives over in the Antioch area, and Rich Elliot RSV99?? is in Livermore. Rich is still actively riding, but getting old and complaining a lot. Rick Bray lives in So Sac, close to Mack Rd., but haven't talked to him in years... Over the years there have been a few who have drifted in for a couple of years and moved on. If you check the member roster for California I'm sure there are a few more... Venture Riders are a rare breed out west, nothing like the east coast... There have been very few in Stockton. Hope this helps...

I have a roll-away with knives scattered in each and every drawer. Just like my gun collecting I like the unusual and unique... something that makes them a little different... However my favorite that I've carried for over 40 years is an old 4621 Frontier... It's a big folder and it went with me where ever I went until the last 10 years or so. Now it sits on my desk and is regulated to cutting up muffins or opening envelopes.. I have 4 grandsons that want me to will it to them when I won't be using it any more.... :-)
-
Gotta chuckle out of this one... :-) Way back when in another galaxy when I bought my first '83VR, I didn't know what 'H' the heat exchanger located in the valley between the cylinder banks was called?? So I called it a Twinkie 'cause it looked like one. The name stuck and I've even seen the term used on other websites... My addition to Venture lore... :-) BTW my money is on the oil seal in the water pump. The overflow drain sits between the two seals. An early warning system for a worn out seal. Be it water or oil. If you don't have oil in the coolant yet consider yourself lucky, and deal with the seals before it get's worse. You don't want to mess with getting the 'milk shake' out of the radiator and lines... Don't ask me how I know that...
-
You could send some of that stuff down here, and I'm sure that would make Puc happy... :-) Just needs to melt before it gets here... California's on fire...again!!

There's a couple of Motel 6's in the area at $85 a night. Congrat's Gramps...
