  1. Went through that in '09 Joe. Trailered the '83 to Cody. I'm riding this year.... 2 days to go......
  2. Why not?? It sets an example, and just maybe it'll make you think... I'll give a thumbs up on this one. Out of stupidity and tragedy comes something worthwhile...
  3. I just reread the service manual again and the 16-17 was refering to a constant voltage charger. The charge from the rectifyer should be around 14vdc at 5000rpm. So it looks like it may have a glitch in the system. Or the multi-meter is bad?? I'm going to go borrow my neighbors Beckman in the morning and see what it reads.
  4. Why???
  5. It worth a look if you like to ride.... [ame=http://vimeo.com/22897515]How to Avoid Skinning Yourself Alive - Brittany Morrow on Vimeo[/ame]
  6. According to the 2ndGen service manual, the charge output should be set to 16-17 vdc. It surprised me!! Number one because it was higher than I'd experienced, and #2 because it can be adjusted... The only experience I've had so far was with 1stGens and generally they peaked out at around 14.2 vdc. I know one thing... you don't want to run the audio equipment without running the engine. I've killed my battery twice doing that. Same thing on the 1stGens.. the tape deck eats amps like a horse eatin' oats.. I ran the tape deck on the '83 all day and actually discharged the battery to where it barely started. It was a lower CC rated battery, but once I turned the tape off it ran fine and charged up. Maybe it's a similar situation with the 2ndGen's when it comes to the audio system.??
  7. I went out to check the battery charge rate, and when I hit it with the multi it read 17.7-18vdc. I've heard a lot about stators and rectifyers not charging, but this is 'whoa ho' time.... Obviously the stator is stating like it should, but the rectifyer is rectum.... I'm about ready to take the bike to Cody. Do you think I can get by without frying the battery?? It's a DEKA. I do have one of the OEM Indian rectifyers around here somewhere. Maybe replace the OEM in Cody?? Opinions?? Never mind... False alarm. I went ahead and read the service manual and it states that the voltage should be 16-17, and since I checked it with a $1.99 Harbor freight multi-meter it doing what it's supposed to be doing. Another interesting thing is I guess you can adjust the voltage on these things. How?? I donno, but I guess it can be done.

    Antenna's

Some '99's and 2000's had their antena's replaced under warantee before it ran out. So you'll see a few early years running around with the newer style antenna's...

    Antenna's

Yamaha OEM new styles. I can't remember where I picked them up... It might have been from a member here, or Ebay?? I've seen others listed on Ebay that I'd toss in the dumpster, but these were very nice. They came complete with the brackets off an '09RSV. As far as pics go, look at any late model RSV and you'll see them. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqEOKjcE31vVndmnBOE614(+Jw~~_3.JPG Replaceing the CB antenna is easy. It has a short co-ax that plugs into the CB under the trunk. You wil need to remove the trunk to get to it, but it's not that big of a deal. The FM antenna is the one that if it comes complete with the 5'-6' co-ax will need to be re-fed to the front of the bike. A PITA. However, if the seller cut the co-ax right just past the bracket like one I received, then with a little patients you can dig the end out of the crimped end fitting. Then cut the old fitting above the crimp and remove the co-ax. I used a high speed dremel and a small grinding tip. The old co-ax end will pop into the new housing, and you're good to go.
  10. That's a good idea Larry. I think I'll toss a few Fork Braces in the trailer for those 1stGen riders, so they don't feel left out.

    Antenna's

I just installed a set of new styles on my '99. I do like those spring loaded folders... Nothing wrong with the old ones, just wanted a different look.
  12. He talking in Kilo's again.... to impress us??? :rotf:
  13. There's a rubber seal behind all the buttons. Waterproofing. Spraying cleaner in there will not do any good. You need to remove the controller and take the back off to get to the button.
  14. That happened to me a few years ago at the station up on the corner only they pre'd it for $50 bucks. I thought it was a charge and went up to bang some heads. Turns out it's standard practice at a lot of stations. The reason. They want to make sure the card will accept that amount of money, and since the price of fuel has gone through the roof it's quite common for a car or truck to take over a hundred to fill it, and they don't know how much you're capable of taking. The card doesn't know you're on a bike... You just another customer, and could be driving a semi for all they know. The problem occurs when the pre-registration doesn't get canceled and it screws up your balance because of it. In Vic's case he had 3 fills in one day, almost $400 dollars in pre's which set off the alarm. Toto
  15. Yeah, but we're hanging a left at Rock Springs Wy.
  16. If they can't get it here in time I'll have them ship it to Kurt in Cody. I'll try to fly under the radar without lighting. All of the riding will be during daylight hours on I-80. Not many stops or turns....
  17. I am going with the unit SleeperHawk suggested. And I found part of my problem. In all the posts I've read on RSV trailer wiring they said they tied into the wiring underneath the passenger seat. So that's where I looked, and there is a 6 pin connector under there. It had some of the right color wires, but not all of them. It was driving me nutzo. So then I got up underneath the rear end and saw that the wiring from the brake light and signals went forward underneath the fender. Then I went forward and found were they exited the fender, and the damn plug is is located next to the battery and the spare power lead, and all the 'right' color wires were there. The other 6 pin plug is probably for the CB...... @#$#@$. So... tomorrow I'm ordering the isolator and adapter from the company Sleeper used, and see if they'll ship it overnight. I need to get this thing done, and wish I hadn't put it of for so long. The clock is ticking....
  18. Yep, I did... Two or three times. DOH!! Yep.. found one of those too.... my lucky day... I had my first set of bi's when I was 16. The fact that the optician wore tri-focals should have told me something. Then I went to an opthomogist around 25 and the guy said I didn't need any. He was right until I turned 45. Then it was back to the bi-specs again. So...yeah... they's for old folk...
  19. Nope, just a little dusty. I can see again. Like I said the replacements were a waste of money...
  20. Thanks for the info George. I think I'll go that direction. This 6 wire plug under the seat just doesn't make any sense. There 6 going in and four coming out the other side. And I'll be damned if I can find a yellow wire anywhere???
  21. Back in '09 while trailering the bike up to Cody I lost my bifocal glasses. I didn't discover it until traveling thru Yellowstone. I pulled into a rest area to read a map of the park and couldn't find my readers.... I searched all over the inside of the truck and even drove all the way back to the West Gate to see if they'd fell out of the truck when I opened the door to take out my wallet for ID. No soap. The only other place I'd gotten out of the truck was at the Craters of the Moon in Idaho and I sure wasn't going to drive the 200+ miles back there to see if someone had turned them in to lost and found. So.... I went the whole week riding with my shades, but it was a PITA trying to read a menu or see after the sun went down. When I got back home I bought a new pair. Never totally liked them, but at least I could read a menu... This morning while trying to wire up the trailer on the '99 I went looking for a circut tester. I have a half dozen, but do you think I could find one anywhere? So I figured I must have one in the center consul of the truck. Went out, opened up the lid and started to dig around. My CC is as bad as my garage. You guessed it. Tucked down on the drivers side of the mess was my lost glasses. Searching from the drivers side I couldn't see them, but from the passenger side there they were. What's ironic about this whole thing is I lost them going to Cody, and found them while getting ready to go back to Cody. Go Figure!!!
  22. If all else fails I just might jury rig the wiring behind the brake to at least get stop and running lights. The heck with flashers for the time being. A pic would still help tho??
  23. The only thing I have left to do is get this dang trailer wired up before leaving for Cody. If anyone could pop the passenger seat off their bike and take a pic of their wiring it would sure help a bunch. I have a Motorvation trailer that has a 5 wire setup directly from the factory so I don't think I need any type of converter, and I do have the RSV wire color chart. Has anyone wired a 5 to 5 wire?? Another thing I'm runing into is the wire guage at the 6 way plug under the seat. Looks like 18ga on my '99, but yet when I get behind the brake light the wires are the more larger 14ga size. Yes, I did look behind the light just to see what was available. I just thought a pic would help me a bunch.... Any help would be appreciated.
  24. Nice trailer. Someone is going to win one like it at the Raffle in Cody next week.,, :cody
  25. I'm gonna play the devils advocate here. I think it's a case of dual negligence. The helmet should have been secured, especially since you were letting a stranger work on the bike. And.... the wrench should have checked before taking the bike on an unneccessary 'test' ride.
