  1. There's a rubber seal behind all the buttons. Waterproofing. Spraying cleaner in there will not do any good. You need to remove the controller and take the back off to get to the button.
  2. That happened to me a few years ago at the station up on the corner only they pre'd it for $50 bucks. I thought it was a charge and went up to bang some heads. Turns out it's standard practice at a lot of stations. The reason. They want to make sure the card will accept that amount of money, and since the price of fuel has gone through the roof it's quite common for a car or truck to take over a hundred to fill it, and they don't know how much you're capable of taking. The card doesn't know you're on a bike... You just another customer, and could be driving a semi for all they know. The problem occurs when the pre-registration doesn't get canceled and it screws up your balance because of it. In Vic's case he had 3 fills in one day, almost $400 dollars in pre's which set off the alarm. Toto
  3. Yeah, but we're hanging a left at Rock Springs Wy.
  4. If they can't get it here in time I'll have them ship it to Kurt in Cody. I'll try to fly under the radar without lighting. All of the riding will be during daylight hours on I-80. Not many stops or turns....
  5. I am going with the unit SleeperHawk suggested. And I found part of my problem. In all the posts I've read on RSV trailer wiring they said they tied into the wiring underneath the passenger seat. So that's where I looked, and there is a 6 pin connector under there. It had some of the right color wires, but not all of them. It was driving me nutzo. So then I got up underneath the rear end and saw that the wiring from the brake light and signals went forward underneath the fender. Then I went forward and found were they exited the fender, and the damn plug is is located next to the battery and the spare power lead, and all the 'right' color wires were there. The other 6 pin plug is probably for the CB...... @#$#@$. So... tomorrow I'm ordering the isolator and adapter from the company Sleeper used, and see if they'll ship it overnight. I need to get this thing done, and wish I hadn't put it of for so long. The clock is ticking....
  6. Yep, I did... Two or three times. DOH!! Yep.. found one of those too.... my lucky day... I had my first set of bi's when I was 16. The fact that the optician wore tri-focals should have told me something. Then I went to an opthomogist around 25 and the guy said I didn't need any. He was right until I turned 45. Then it was back to the bi-specs again. So...yeah... they's for old folk...
  7. Nope, just a little dusty. I can see again. Like I said the replacements were a waste of money...
  8. Thanks for the info George. I think I'll go that direction. This 6 wire plug under the seat just doesn't make any sense. There 6 going in and four coming out the other side. And I'll be damned if I can find a yellow wire anywhere???
  9. Back in '09 while trailering the bike up to Cody I lost my bifocal glasses. I didn't discover it until traveling thru Yellowstone. I pulled into a rest area to read a map of the park and couldn't find my readers.... I searched all over the inside of the truck and even drove all the way back to the West Gate to see if they'd fell out of the truck when I opened the door to take out my wallet for ID. No soap. The only other place I'd gotten out of the truck was at the Craters of the Moon in Idaho and I sure wasn't going to drive the 200+ miles back there to see if someone had turned them in to lost and found. So.... I went the whole week riding with my shades, but it was a PITA trying to read a menu or see after the sun went down. When I got back home I bought a new pair. Never totally liked them, but at least I could read a menu... This morning while trying to wire up the trailer on the '99 I went looking for a circut tester. I have a half dozen, but do you think I could find one anywhere? So I figured I must have one in the center consul of the truck. Went out, opened up the lid and started to dig around. My CC is as bad as my garage. You guessed it. Tucked down on the drivers side of the mess was my lost glasses. Searching from the drivers side I couldn't see them, but from the passenger side there they were. What's ironic about this whole thing is I lost them going to Cody, and found them while getting ready to go back to Cody. Go Figure!!!
  10. If all else fails I just might jury rig the wiring behind the brake to at least get stop and running lights. The heck with flashers for the time being. A pic would still help tho??
  11. The only thing I have left to do is get this dang trailer wired up before leaving for Cody. If anyone could pop the passenger seat off their bike and take a pic of their wiring it would sure help a bunch. I have a Motorvation trailer that has a 5 wire setup directly from the factory so I don't think I need any type of converter, and I do have the RSV wire color chart. Has anyone wired a 5 to 5 wire?? Another thing I'm runing into is the wire guage at the 6 way plug under the seat. Looks like 18ga on my '99, but yet when I get behind the brake light the wires are the more larger 14ga size. Yes, I did look behind the light just to see what was available. I just thought a pic would help me a bunch.... Any help would be appreciated.
  12. Nice trailer. Someone is going to win one like it at the Raffle in Cody next week.,, :cody
  13. I'm gonna play the devils advocate here. I think it's a case of dual negligence. The helmet should have been secured, especially since you were letting a stranger work on the bike. And.... the wrench should have checked before taking the bike on an unneccessary 'test' ride.
  14. Never checked my E3's when I got them from Jake Wilson. They looked new so I installed them. I'm not sold on this 6 year thing as it just gives everyone something else to be paranoid about. They're not going to mysteriously self distruct 6 years from the DOT date. As long as the tire wasn't sitting out exposed in a field somewhere, and stored inside, they should be fine. And, I've even had E2's on early 1stGens that had been sitting out in the weather, and run them without a problem.
  15. On earlier this AM and just checked again.. Works for me...
  16. Ahhh??? Serpentine to short??
  17. For those members staying at the Ponderosa it's important that you tell them you're with the Venture Rider Group when checking in... as if it wouldn't be obvious .... Anyway they have agree'd to give us a rate less than their normal summer rates. When we first announced the Rally, way back last year, members in the know jumped on the cabins before we could talk to the Ponderosa about a rate like we had in '09. We just assumed that it would be biz as usual. Not!! We dropped the ball, but thanks to Kurt (Starstruk) the problem has been resolved. Just remember to tell them you Ride a Venture....
  18. Looking forward to seeing you again Lowell.....
  19. Got it Joe. Thanks....
  20. I'm finding that out. Started looking, and all I could find were new, with a hefty price tag... I've bought intire ventures for less... So Plan B, getting the thing welded up and then rechromed, will probably happen before Plan A. . Nice winter project... BTW I did see one nice condition used on Ebay for $350 and free shipping from some dealer in Fla... I think. I also googled the part number, and got a ton of hits, so maybe with the RSV being discontinued prices will start coming down because of the glut sitting on the shelves... Even though there hard to find there's not a bunch of folks running around looking for them either.
  21. (trunk..typo) Went out to wire up the trailer pigtail and do some antena work this morning, and when I removed the trunk to get at the CB I found that the left front bracket was busted off completely. The break was rusted up pretty good so it probably happened before I bought it. Anyway... Anyone have a rack left over from a trike conversion or from a trunk mod?? I can get by for the time being with just the 3 attachment points, but it would be nice to replace the whole rack. BTW its ugly rusted too, or I'd take it down to the muffler shop and have it rewelded....
  22. Couldn't agree with you more George. Tingling and fingers going to sleep are the first signs of Carpal, and it doesn't get any better, it'll only get worse. I kept fighting it til my right hand went to sleep and didn't wake up. I've had both wrists done and couldn't be happier. Now I can ride all day, and before I couldn't make it two blocks without having to shake the hands out.
  23. I think it all depends on what the dealer is trying to get out of the stuff.
  24. Here's what I did to an extra set I picked up off Ebay. The masking was a PITA but they came out 'respectable'....
  25. July 4th it was 104 here. For the last 5 days it's been down in the low 80's. Supposed to warm up into the high 80's over the weekend.... It's that damn volcano!!
