  1. If the final is the same as the Venture, there are a bunch of FJR FINALS listed on Ebay that should work??.
  2. Mel has no imagination.....
  3. The choke set on the '84's are exclusive to that model year. They went back to the '83 style slider in '85 and on....
  4. This may be a little off subject, but my rectifier went bad on the '99, and while riding to Cody the power wasn't what I expected, and mpg was way down over normal. 24-26mpg with a trailer. Changed out the rectifier to one of the OEM Indians and power improved plus on one run without the trailer I got 44mpg. So I'm thinking there wasn't enough amps in the battery, and none from the stator to charge the coils up and get a strong spark??
  5. The Streetmaster c550 meets all the basic needs, and look just like the Zumo 550. Navigation, MP3.. sounds fine.., and Bluetooth if you want it. They've been discontinued but 'like new' units can be had on Ebay for $50-$75 bucks. Screen is readable except in extreme direct sunlight.
  6. Me neither... Wish I had a pic of the dash area..
  7. Cody Thoughts and Impressions. Pics at http://www.cast-aways.com/codypics1.htm The good, the bad, and the ugly... Day 1. Thursday Meet up with Lone Eagle for breakfast, and ride to Elko Nev. Nevada is boring as hell and hot. Drank lots of Gator Aid at the rest stops. Trailer is towing great. New gimbaled ball hitch ball doing great. No lights, but Vic’s behind me riding sweep. Played leap frog with a group of Star Riders. Road all tore up in front of the Elko's Motel 6. First long day in a while and out of condition. Hurting. Pizza for dinner. Motrin for dessert. Day 2. Friday Off roaded out of Elko. What a mess. Breakfast and fuel in Wells, and watched the group of Star Riders head north into Idaho on Hwy93. We continued east on I-80 to Rock Springs. Fueled up again in Wendover. Droped bike at the gas pump. Dang this is a rough trip. We keep heading east.. More sand and sage brush. Fuel mileage ain’t all that great. 24-25 mpg. Bike not starting at the push of the starter button. Curious?? Worse night ever in a Motel 6. No A/C. More Motrin. Day 3. Saturday North to Cody… via the GPS. Fuel and breakfast in Lander Wy. Great family restaurant. Kooky waitress. Fun. Left turn in Thermopolis. Deka battery croaks. Buy wet cell from auto parts store across the street and leave for Cody 85 miles away. Didn’t think to top off our tanks. Made Cody on fumes. Checked into the Skyline, put the Deka on the charger. Flopped on Bed ‘n died. Day 4. Sunday Members start arriving. Vic, Russ, Dave, and Jan take over the sign in ‘festivities’. Chips, Dip, and Sody Pop turned into 2-8’ long Subs, and 4 party platters. Great time. Day 5. Monday AM spent trying to locate the damn rectifier. Know 1stGen, but 2nd is new to me. Checked the wet cell battery. Charging at 14.2vdc so decide to ride the Bear Tooth Pass via Chief Joseph. Left Deka in the room on the charger. Great ride. Most stayed in Red Lodge MT for lunch. Wasn’t hungry so headed back to Cody. Wet Cell died 16 miles outside of town at the beginning of a construction zone. Brian Fries rode by, took my room key, and brought back the Deka. 2 ½ hours later finally made it to Cody in time to hop in the shower and get over to the Ponderosa for the Chili cook off. Russ, Dave & Jan, and Irv & Teri cooked up some great Chili’s and fish wraps. Awesome. Not bad for a simple planned Ice Cream Social…. Day 6 Tuesday Hung the Gremlin Bell on the scoot. Gotta get rid of the gremlins. Things start looking up!! Found the rectifier. Not where the manual sez it is. Easy, once you know where. Dano wired up the Indian Rectifier I brought along. Lot better job than I could have ever done. Many Thanks Dan!! Spend the afternoon napping. Feeling melancholy about doing another long ride. Figure this will be my last. Mooched over to the Ponderosa to visit. Turned around and Ponch and Company had the scoot tank off and were wiring up the tach in the ignition pod. Cool!! Day 7 Wednesday Slept late, but met up with Kurt for a run to Ye Auld Meat Shoppe to pick up the Buffalo burgers for the noon BBQ. Vic, Russ, made a run to Wal-Mart for fixins. BBQ went great!!. Went back to the room for a siesta. Woke and Vic had already taken all the raffle prizes over to the Holiday for the group banquet. Hard to keep up with him…. Group dinner was incredible. I won a few things in the drawings… After glow gathering in the parking lot of the Skyliner til the wee hours. Broke open the bottle of Seagram’s to share with the group. Day 8 Thursday Vic and I rode to Shell Falls in the Big Horn. Great ride. Averaged 44 mpg for the trip. Lots better mileage when the rectifier is doing it’s job. Dano wired up the trailer so I’d have lights on the way home. Another Cool!! Last night in Cody. KSU in the early AM. Day 9 Friday Left for Pocatello via Jackson Hole Wy, and Teton Pass. Went thru the park. In the East Gate and out the West Gate. GPS got confused so canceled Jackson Hole. Stopped for fuel at Old Faithful, and it was going off while we pumped. Great timing!! Day 10 Saturday Left Pocatello early to beat the heat to Winnemucca Nev. Hit a little rain… 2-3 miles. Tried out the new cool vest in the afternoon. It worked. Helped with the afternoon heat. Great sunset at the motel. 5 minutes later it disappeared behind a dust storm. Weird weather…. Day 11 Sunday Winnemucca to home. Tough dealing with traffic again. Pulled into a local station for Vic to tank up and say our good byes. Vic still had another 90 miles to go. I’m 15 minutes from the barn. Recap The Cody VR Rally was the best I’ve ever attended. Not because of anything I did, but because of the hard work of Lone Eagle, Russ, Dave and Jan, and the fantastic people who came. The bar has been set a little higher for the east coast next year. New products all worked. Cool Vest, Indian rectifier, gimbaled ball hitch, Trailer wiring kit… after Dano modified it, and most of all the Gremlin Bell!! Met some of the best Venture Riders ever that I’m very proud to call ‘My Friends’. ~CONDOR~
  8. That pic shows it's a MKI. 3 piece windshield trim... MKII's are one piece...
  9. That wire and the half plates are there for a reason. Yamaha didn't just toss them in there to make things difficult. They make a smoother transition when letting out the clutch. They reduce grab. Some have elected to remove the half's and go with a full plate and disc, but from what I've read it does reduce the slip threshold. When I rebuild clutches, I order an extra wire instead of using the old one. The tips always seem to get bent up, and makes it a PITA getting them back in. If you do happen get the old one out unbent, great!! The springs aren't that much, and now you have a spare. Shop around for the discs. Prices vary. Also go with an OEM spring. It worked fine when the bike was new, and will do the same now. Don't forget to pick up a gasket. Servicing the clutch is one of the easiest maintenence jobs you can do on any Venture. It can be interesting and fun....
  10. Are you talking about the CLASS box itself or the dash cover?? Or both??? Maybe a pic would help?
  11. Great Pics Larry. It's hard to find any place that is more majestic than the area surrounding Cody. It's a must do if anyone's serious about 2 wheel touring.

No... You need a lawyer. They can spin it anyway you'd like.

  14. I use Advanced Systems Care Free. Does a pretty good job of cleaning the registry, etc. Have you cleaned out the cookies yet. A bunch of those will slow down any machine....

Since the question was a continuation sentence, connected by a conjunction, the man jumped off the roof. However he may still be on the roof after he jumped. It didn't say he jumped 'down' off the roof, although that may have happened.. He could have also jumped 'up' off the roof, and then landed on the roof again. My
  16. Great looking bike Abbe. I also have a '91 Tuxido....
  17. Glad you made it back to the barn OK Larry. It was a pleasure meeting you and the Mrs., and thanks for the kind words...
  18. Check your diaphragms for leaks, and your idle jets are probably clogged if it'll only run with full choke.
  19. The Ride-On isn't meant to balance a tire completely, just fine tune it. They say to balance it like you always do and then put the 'goo' in. Maybe you lucked out and the E3 was pretty close to being balanced from the git-go....
  20. My 99 was replaced after 27,000 miles under warantee. Replacement is doing OK after 50,000.
  21. The price Joe posted is really great. I've been getting DEKA's from Bohannon for about $85 on the door step. Although I can't speak for all AGM's here's a little story about about what happened last week in Cody. I checked the charge voltage just before hitting the road from Sacramento to the VR International in Cody. Deka showed 17vdc charge at idle. I didn't have time to do any 'seek and distroy' so figured the Deka would last til I got to Cody.... hopefully.. Not so. It ended up dead in Thermopolis Wy, 85 miles south of Cody. Almost made it. Now when I say dead, I mean dead... 8.9vdc was all it showed on the meter. I should have been arrested right then and there for 'Assualt on a Battery'.. The sides even looked a little hollow. Luckily it died right acrossed the street from an auto parts store where I picked up a 'cheap..$95' wet cell... their only 20L in the place... got the bike fired up and made it to Cody. I did come prepared. Smart Charger and extra 'OEM Indian' rectifyer just in case. That evening I put the Deka on the smart charger and it recharged without throwing any error codes. The next morning I checked the charge on the wet cell and it showed 14.2vdc. OK, Must have been a bad battery even though it did recharge?? So off on the ride the BearTooth. Great ride as usual, but killed the wet cell on the way back. Motor died as I approached a flag man at the beginning of a construction zone 16 miles outside of town. The wet cell showed 11.8vdc, but didn't have enough poop to turn the starter over. There I sat for 2.5 hours until the rest of the group finally rode up. Gave Brian Fries (Friesman) the key to my room and he brought the 're-charged' Deka back. Many thanks Brian!!!! Fired up the bike and made it back to town. With a lot of help from 'Dano' we finally found and replaced the rectifyer and made it back to Sacramento without a problem. Some observations.. The Deka is one tough AGM Battery. It lasted for three days and 900 miles before croaking. At 8.9vdc I would have thought I'd murdered it?? And just because there's voltage showing on a charge doesn't mean it's getting amps too. And don't assume anything...
  22. This is a little off subject. We all know about the 2ndGen shock problems, but what the 'H' did they do to the design when they came out with the 2ndGen?? I rarely hear about a rear shock going on a 1stGen..... Too bad they're not interchangeable...
  23. They say even a blind squirel finds an acorn every once in a while.... There's another saying along that line about a dog and the sun.... but I forget how it goes....
  24. Here's the LINK to them in our classifieds
  25. There were only two items that I really wanted among all those raffle prizes. Steve's grill and the Seagrams Black. In all the raffles I've bought tickets for over the years I have never ever had a number drawn. Never...ever...ever And when I actually had a number called at Cody I couldn't believe it. Talk about excited!!. When the second number was called, and I won the Seagrams.... Back at the Skyline quite a few members sampled that bottle around the campfire.... OK.. not a camp fire, but close... All the rest of those great prizes went to someone else, and I don't think anyone went away empty handed... OK..OK..!! I'm still in a daze about that third number...
