The part # is right for the '83, but I don't know any store that has them on the shelf... It can be done without the speeds but they just make it a lot easier... If you can put the bleed off for a few days Speed-Bleeder ships fairly fast and if you order them tomorrow I bet you'll get them by Friday...

I have a question. It takes a code to get the 5 fer $25 price, but it's store pick up only. Do they have some sort of entry key in the store where you can enter a code??? Wish we had an Advance around Sacramento.....

I put one of those tilting balls on mine. It pulls great, and it won't go all the way over like a swivel hitch.... which might be a good thing.... I cut a corner a little too much coming out of a reststop last month and hit the curb. She bounced pretty high but settled right back down... Might have flipped if it had been a hitch...

The fluid on my '99 brakes looked sorta OK, but bled them anyway. The clutch fluid had 'ZERO' visibility. You might want to take a look at yours too....

And tucked back in a ways under the 'in your face' fuse box to make it hard to find unless you're looking up... There is a spare fuse in the holder....

Milky is a term I've never heard before when discribing clutch fluid?? Discolored, black, inky, but never milky... When bleeding the clutch are you using a Speed Bleeder?? When flushing the clutch it's the only way to keep your sanity.... Was any work ever done on the mechanical side... clutch basket etc.?? If not, the problem could be a bad slave where the piston isn't returning all the way due to rusted cylinder walls, but I doubt this due to the bike's age?? OR the clutch spring needs to be beefed up... There's lots of things that could be amiss, but basically you have too much fluid in the hydralic lines for one reason or the other, keeping the clutch pack almost disengaged, and yes it will cause slipping.

Just for the heck of it take the top off the reserve and 'gently' pull the lever in a quarter inch or so. If you should see a slight deformation of the fluid surface, and that means the expansion hole at the bottom of the reserve is clear, and that's good... Also what color was the fluid when you first bled it? And when the dealer bled it?? It should be crystal clear, and if it was, the problem wasn't the fluid. Let us know what you find...

Travel bag pouch mounting screw nuts

The next time you're in Harbor Freight... hope they have them in Salem... pick up a set of 1/4 drive torx bits. Usually around 6-7 bucks. You will need them in the future.... Glad you found a way.... -
What you might give some thought to is installing a DEKA AGM battery, and forget about a tender. They hold a charge for months. They're probably the best bang for the buck in an MC battery.... http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka/etx18l.html

Didn't refer to them as chargers...just panels... Didn't say he was asking about a big watt panel. His original post refered to a small maintainer... With a 5 watt panel you're only putting out .22 amps for a very short period of the day. I doubt it's making that much of a difference in even maintaining the charge. And..... a small 5 watt panel will charge a battery... it just depends on the size of the battery... But it's a moot point as we're talking 12 volts here.

Didn't say it wouldn't work. Don't have a clue where you got that from?? All I said is they aren't very efficient and higher latitudes and sun challenged areas. You're blessed with lots of sun. Take a look at where the poster is from. Think it might rain there a little?? Your 5 watt panal probably puts out less than 1 amp at best, and not knowing what you paracitic draw is on the truck... clock.. radio presets??... it's probably just barely keeping up with the loss. Do you need the panel? It all depends on what you mean by occasionally, but I seriously doubt it.?? I sometimes leave my truck sit for 1 to 2 months and never have a problem with it starting, and it pulls a lot of amps.. it's a diesel. With a 91amp alternator it recovers very quickly. This is an old thread, but the post I responded to is recent, and he'd be better off using a battery tender. BTW I run a 75watt panel on the boat and it will charge a battery. So much so that it needs a rectifier to controll the output.

The tips are steel, and if your chrome is flaking I'd suspect the area you live in. I just checked a set of OEM's I took off my '99RSV and they show no signs of pealing or flaking...
-
Solar panals only produce max watts when pointed directly at the sun. If you install one in a fixed positiion the output really fades as the sun's angle increases. Amount of sunshine also plays a part... especialy in the higher latitudes... Most panals are rated at optimum sun conditions, when in reality that's only for a couple of hours a day.

Yeah, but like all things posted on the web they have everlasting life.....

leaky clutch bleeder valve
Condor replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are you using the SpeedBleeder?? I had much the same problem with a new speed bleeder on my slave. Would not stop 'weeping'. Dropped Speed an email and they replaced it imediately. While waiting for the replacement I used an old one I had laying around and it worked just fine... I use Speeds on all my bikes and this was the first one that had ever given me a problem... -
A fe observations of a Bike stored outside. Should I be concerned
Condor replied to muaymendez1's topic in Watering Hole
Mine stay out year round, but I don't have near the weather you do on the east coast. I keep three covers on each bike all winter. The top one is an 'el cheepo'. Water proof but only good for one season... and it seems to work. I don't ride much during the winter so they get fired up maybe once or twice til the fan kicks in. i think if I were in snow country I'd be looking for a small enclosed trailer.. -
Looks nice.... Does it have FI?? Wasn't there something about needing FI and being water cooled to meet EPA smog requirements on anything new???
-
I'd plug it unless I had a bottle of Ride On available. Then I'd just use the RideOn and not even use a plug.....

Save the paint, and pick up a set of Barnet Coil Springs. By now your '83 needs them...

Travel bag pouch mounting screw nuts
Condor replied to tz89's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The two top phillips heads just hold the molding on, the two nuts take a screw that comes from the outside and hold the bottom part of the hinge. There's also 4 acorn nuts on the bottom of the trunk. They are all easily removed and then line back up to reattach the bracket.. It's not a big deal.... -
Rick, put your popcorn away, this ain't going any farther. I don't know everything there is to know when it comes to Ventures, but I do know what the 'H' I'm talking about when it comes to clutches and brakes on Ventures....

Coolant Leak - Spraying all over me!
Condor replied to phertwo's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
While sitting on the sidestand and idling it doesn't leak... or spray?? You might also think about doing a system pressure test?? Also check the overflow hose for leaks....
