  1. The tips are steel, and if your chrome is flaking I'd suspect the area you live in. I just checked a set of OEM's I took off my '99RSV and they show no signs of pealing or flaking...
  2. Solar panals only produce max watts when pointed directly at the sun. If you install one in a fixed positiion the output really fades as the sun's angle increases. Amount of sunshine also plays a part... especialy in the higher latitudes... Most panals are rated at optimum sun conditions, when in reality that's only for a couple of hours a day.
  3. Yeah, but like all things posted on the web they have everlasting life.....
  4. I'd go turn it on again... They must have turned a valve off somewhere?? http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg
  5. Are you using the SpeedBleeder?? I had much the same problem with a new speed bleeder on my slave. Would not stop 'weeping'. Dropped Speed an email and they replaced it imediately. While waiting for the replacement I used an old one I had laying around and it worked just fine... I use Speeds on all my bikes and this was the first one that had ever given me a problem...
  6. Mine stay out year round, but I don't have near the weather you do on the east coast. I keep three covers on each bike all winter. The top one is an 'el cheepo'. Water proof but only good for one season... and it seems to work. I don't ride much during the winter so they get fired up maybe once or twice til the fan kicks in. i think if I were in snow country I'd be looking for a small enclosed trailer..
  7. Looks nice.... Does it have FI?? Wasn't there something about needing FI and being water cooled to meet EPA smog requirements on anything new???
  8. I'd plug it unless I had a bottle of Ride On available. Then I'd just use the RideOn and not even use a plug.....
  9. Save the paint, and pick up a set of Barnet Coil Springs. By now your '83 needs them...
  10. The two top phillips heads just hold the molding on, the two nuts take a screw that comes from the outside and hold the bottom part of the hinge. There's also 4 acorn nuts on the bottom of the trunk. They are all easily removed and then line back up to reattach the bracket.. It's not a big deal....
  11. Rick, put your popcorn away, this ain't going any farther. I don't know everything there is to know when it comes to Ventures, but I do know what the 'H' I'm talking about when it comes to clutches and brakes on Ventures....
  12. It's possible you have a bad adapter... Warantee??
  13. While sitting on the sidestand and idling it doesn't leak... or spray?? You might also think about doing a system pressure test?? Also check the overflow hose for leaks....
  14. Just like down here.... eh??
  15. This I gotta see.... 'Course how long of a grade are you talking about.... :rotf:
  16. Servicing the clutch on a 2ndGen RSV is an out of sight out of mind thing since the master sight glass is hidden behind the audio control cluster and the #1 fin cover needs to be removed to get to the bleeder. So it's put off til next time more often than not. I'm personally not aware of any clutch failures at 40,000 miles on an RSV clutch that has been serviced regularly. I am aware of owners mistakenly using friction modified oil in the engine causing slipping.,, Another cause.... Just to say it's slipping... and it's time to rebuild the clutch... seems to me like a waste of time and money since there are other places to look before spending the bucks. The only thing good about rebuilding the clutch pack is it's the easiest major repair that can be done to the bike.
  17. I think it comes down to that quote from P.T. Barnum.....???
  18. You've got a heck of a bike to be pulling mountain grades in 5th gear... with a trailer.. I'm not saying it isn't... if the clutch is fubar, but... bleed the clutch first and save yourself some money... There are a lot of things that can cause clutch slippage, and most are easlily and cheaply fixed. Rebuild as a last resort.... not the first....
  19. Bleed the clutch before going for the juggler... Chances are very good the clutch has never been bled, and bleeding will cure the slipping.... At 34,000 miles the clutch is not worn out and the spring is still good.
  20. It's small... maybe that's why it's special??? Anyway if you take off all the acorns the 'L' bracket will lift off and you can get to the back side of that twist lock. As long as you leave everything else screwed down it should go back together easily.... There's no way in 'H' that you can get to it otherwise... Good Luck....
  21. That was the excuse back in the days when the Canadian/US dollar exchange rate tilted toward the US. Now that the Loony is the heavy weight, what's the reason for high prices???
  22. That feature is on a PM. Probably be easy to do it in the forum?? 'Nother thing. When editing one of our posts the system takes you to a 'basic' editor, and you have to go to another advanced if you want to get fauncy. Why can't it just take you to the advanced editor from the git'go??? Don???
  23. It's possible for the battery amps to get low enough to not fully recharge the coils and get a weak spark and poor ignition. Charge the batt and see if the bike still stumbles. If it does, change the plugs. Don't hold me to this, but I think I read somewhere that it takes a 45 minute ride to replace the amps used to turn the starter over.
  24. This is just a thought.... but how about Winipeg Ca?? Centralized... cooler...Looks like there's a couple of day rides...
