  1. Good question... This post should generate some milage all by itself... '83....56,000 '87....39,000 '90....72,000 '91....96,000 '93....92,000 '99....50,000 '91 motor....51,000
  2. Dan.. Any R1 or R6 caliper where the mounting bolts are on the side and horizontal will fit your '86. The type that won't work are those with the mounting bolts are on top and vertical. They're sorta easy to distinguish. The vertical calipers look like a brick. Trying to figure out what years will work gives me a headache....
  3. Everyone's coming out with a V4. I'd like to see a V6 built on the new V-Max engine to give the BMW1600 a run. Maybe two configurations. Cruiser/Bagger, and Sports Tourer. FI, full analog guages on the CB, and LCD cluster on the T, integrated audio/cb on both, ABS and Traction control, slipper 6 speed. Also wouldn't mind seeing a V6 super bike.
  4. I did.... http://earthquakecountry.info/dropcoverholdon/
  5. Unless a wall collapses outward and falls on you....
  6. Unless you get spring resistence from the clutch pack pressue plate to return the fluid into the master the slave will bottom out to max and then not go anywhere. Check the pressure plate...
  7. My..my..my... Who'da guessed..
  8. I was always getting stuck in left turn lanes with the '83. One day a bunch of us were visiting the local BMW shop and the service manager talked me into one of those 'new improved' magnets... I went out and zip tied it to my center stand leg. Left hand hang ups were no longer an issue. The only time I would get hung up is on one of those mechanical triggers that needed a cars weight to make it go. Plus around here a lot of the left turn controls are now radar controlled. I haven't had any problems with the '99 because of that.... maybe???
  9. You're gonna have to remove the basket again and check assembly. Check that the push rods are moving correctly by gently squeezing the lever and keeping a finger on the rods. The pressure plate may not be installed right. It only fits one way. Keep rotating it untill it seats down on the discs.... Bet that takes care of you problem.... Don't ask me how I know that.... WRONG http://www.venturerider.org/barnett/image020.jpg RIGHT http://www.venturerider.org/barnett/image022.jpg
  10. Trike?? Whales Tail???
  11. Yep, pitch #3... Also I noticed that in the second pic the cup washer is on the wrong end. It goes between the spring and the PVC, and the cup portion fits into the PVC, not into the spring end. That keeps the spring from chewing up the plastic and the plastic centered in the column. I also found two of those washers in my '83..one for each end.., and I cut one PVC in half. Don't know what the preload length ended up being, but it worked...
  12. I sat on BigBob's while we were in Cody. Not built for large economy sized folks.... I didn't even move and it was uncomfortable.... Enjoy your ride....
  13. Actually it's the reverse.... Wind resistence and 5th gear use fuel like a horse eating oats. When running in the twisties and using 2-3-4, braking in second and powering out of the curves will give surprizing mpg results... And I'm not the only one on this board who's found that out. I know it sounds goofy, but it's true.
  14. Must be blacker than Metalic Black..... Or the ace of spades... Or the dark hole of Calcutta...
  15. My '99 got 26mpg riding to Cody pulling a trailer and running like crap. While in Cody I did a day ride without the trailer and got 40... Before I left home I didn't have time to do anything other than change fluids, so no sync or plugs. I still haven't changed anything but I'm definately thinking about it.... I think the sync and plugs will make'r hum again...
  16. Well.... the new color for 2012 will be 'intense black'.... The Midnight Venture has been discontinued.. What's amazing to me is my '99 is 13 years old and outside of the color is the same damn bike.... Can't say that about any 1stGen.. Another thing I noticed... unless I missed it... Y didn't mention anything about coming with a tape deck in the specs. Maybe they are too imbarrased, OR they finally ran out of them...
  17. When a clutch starts slipping right after an oil change the oil proably contained friction modifiers.... Not good for a wet clutch... Try running Valvoline 20-50 MC oil for wet clutches... You can find it a O'Reilys... It may take a couple of changes to get the 'slippery' oil out of the crank, but it should solve your slipping issues. Adding a little Sea Foam to the crank will help with the house cleaning.... Before tearing into anything again, give me a shout...
  18. 12:00am EDT That's 9:00pm here on the left coast..... Way past my bedtime....
  19. It's been great having you and Alan here for the visit Annie. Have a safe trip back home. When are you scheduled to fly out??
  20. Just above the waterpump on the frame.... I had a battery that checked out just fine. 12.9vdc at rest. Put a load on that sucker and it croaked. Ditto on the DEKA.
  21. The odds are better that you will get killed riding your bike, than getting munched by an earthquake.
  22. Get a flashlight and a mirror. Brail won't get it. I wonder if the P.O. stuck an oversized plug in there for some reason?? Hope it's a non-issue....
  23. Yeah, I had a wise a$$ do that in front of his gun shop with a silver dollar. I went back to the car and got a hammer and chisel. Easy.. I think I still have that dollar in a jar somewhere....
  24. Actually the 26H and 3JJ are assigned when ever there is a change... and it could be nothing more than a color change is made. All 26H's were for the '83VR model year, and it could remain that way all the way to '93 if nothing was ever done to it. I used to have the complete break down of year and model for Yamaha, but lost it in the HD crash. I think?? the 3JJ first appeared in '90?? Maybe... The part number is the 23103-1.
  25. The outer tube is the lower. Just checked 3 different service manuals..'83, 86, and 88... and they all have #23103-1 tube assembly listed. Go figure??? From what I can see the tubes are interchangeable...
