Custom World International Backrest
Condor replied to dacheedah's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It looks like it extends into the seating position quite a bit. Keep us posted on how it rides.... -
I saw those... Understand they are quite loud, and hope the hearsay is wrong... I went with a set of used Bubbs and rebuilt them. No one's asked me to go the rear on a group ride.... yet....

I don't do anything special to a new tire. Avon's or E3's. Never thought much about it, and just ride. I imagine a few right and left hand turns around the block will scuff them up a lot more than using sand paper.

Front end clunking when going over bumps
Condor replied to dz's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On the rear shock, there's a rebound adjuster that will sometimes take care of the bounce. It's located on the left side back around the passenger peg. It has 1-4 settings. Don't jump from 4 to 1. It's sequencial. 1-2-3-4-3-2-1. That may help?? If not brace yourself when you price a new rear shock. On the AD's, I just left mine connected, but if you want to spend the bucks, a couple of plates from Skydoc17 will work. -

Yep, that's max pressure in the front forks and 71 psi in the rear of a 1stGen. That's using the Auto/High Class setting. Not sure if it can be exceeded manually, never tried. 17 and 71 always seemed high enough. -
Just trying to see if you were paying attention.....

Didn't mean to cause a shoot out on this thread..... Yes I did.. It was raining all day and I didn't have anything better to do.... Plus outside of about half dozen members regularly posting here this place has been dead lately. Nothing like a little controversy to liven things up.... I love touchy subjects... and members... -
I wonder if he could outrun a 9mm..... http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg

Great idea!!!!

I love swaps. Wish it were closer.. One of the local independant stores used to have one that was a ton of fun, but a larger one I went to a couple of weeks ago was a waste of space. About a 100 sellers, and I never saw so many beat up Harley junque parts that belonged in the dumpster.... ever. Probably won't waste the $6 bucks again...

My '83 did the same thing when I first bought it. Progressives cured that problem.... -
Let us know how it turns out.... :rotf:

Heck, my Ariel Square Four had drums at both ends. Stopped fine, but a brake job was a biatch..... -

OK, since I'm so dishonest, and... heaven forbid... at the risk of repeating myself, what makes a seperated front/rear braking system superior to the linked Venture system? Give me a real time everyday non ABS example. BTW ABS by nature is applied to each wheel, ergo the system would have to be unlinked. -

Sounds like you're making a good case for linked brakes. Isn't making things simpler, and better, progress?? Since the VR is a touring bike, and not a crotch rocket, why would anyone want to mess with something that works.. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Granted some psychological benefit might be attained by doing something 'cool' to your bike, but other than putting R1 calipers on the MKI's and RSV's I see no performance benefit. -
Probably won't touch the powder coat, but if the paint's the same as on the ABS plastic parts it should lift the paint right off. You might want to keep an eye on it...not sure what the effect of long term exposure will do to the plastic surface, but for the small speck I missed it was on a couple of weeks before I noticed it and the subsurface was clean as a whistle...

Not that we don't like it, as most of us have been riding bikes before the linking of brakes ever came along. The design was an improvement over the 'old' separated brakes. I see no benefit going backwards. Heck, if the old ways were better lets go back to drum brakes.... -
It's amazing how much paint damage one tiny little speck of missed DOT 3 will do to the paint if it's left sitting for a couple of days.... Don't ask me how I know that either....

Curious.... Just how much oil pressure does one of these V4's have anyway?? Anyone have a guage hooked up?? And would a 2gen have the same as a 1gen??? -
You're pretty much spot on, and I guess you could say that pressure is built, but it's so small that it probably couldn't be measured. The Speed just lets fluid be moved through the system very quickly and easily. One note of warning. When squeezing the lever on the clutch, with the reserve lid off, be very carefull and cover all the plastic. In the initial 1/4" of lever travel fluid will squirt out of the expansion hole at the base of the reserve, and get all over the place. Not as bad when full. Don't ask me how I know this....

I guess that's why many of the major manufactured backed track bikes are now looking at computorized traction and power controll. Why?? Because it's better. And lets face it a 1stGen ain't a Ninja, and a Ninja ain't a track bike. Also there's absolutely nothing wrong with 1stGen MKII brakes. They do an excellent job, but like I mentioned in a previous post the MKI beta models needed help. Not because the brakes were linked, but because of the equipment. That was corrected with the MKII. Delinking the brakes on a 1stGen doesn't add an iota to their stopping ability. This is being honest....
