  1. When I replaced the trunk on the '83 I set the rack on the new lid and aligned it the way I wanted. Then drew circles around the feet. Took it off and drilled through the center of the circles. Worked for me...
  2. That's an awesome looking bike, and I like the aux. switch placement. Something I've never seen before......
  3. If you haven't done so you might try going back to a Dino oil. My '99 makes a little noise... 'bout the same as the '83... at lower R's once in a while when starting off, but it quickly disappears above 1500-2000 rpm. The p.o. of the '99 only used Dino, same as I used on the '83, and I don't know if that's the reason for the low whine, but I'm going to continue.... I think I read somewhere here that Y installed matched gear sets on the early Ventures...and I may have gotten lucky on the '99?? The 'I' basket may help, but you're never going to know unless you try....
  4. That is way too weird.... How'd the guy keep from freezing his fingers off. :confused07:
  5. If you have them mounted tight to the bolt at the bottom of the saddle bag the whole bike must be swaying....
  6. That's a thought. I used to use GreyHound, once in a while years ago, but when I checked a little while ago it cost a ton, but it might be something to look into for Canada.
  7. Check the inside of the air filter box. You may have blown some oil up in there when it was overfull. It'll run down the venturi and make an engine smoke...
  8. Just thinking.... This year we did a chilli cook off at the International in Cody. I bet a Corn feed at next years Rally in Buffalo would work. The first time I ever had BBQ'd corn was at our place in East Amherst a... er.... a long time ago, and I still remember it.... It musta made a heck of an impression....
  9. I'm not sure what the deal is for totalled vehicles in Canada, but if they total the '85 do you get to buy it back for a few bucks?? It doesn't look all the bad and bet it could be TLC'd back into riding mode very easily. Most of the damage looks to be the left upper. Keep eatin' dem Motrin....
  10. I agree, and use USPS almost all the time, but sometimes it's unavoidable with a large fairly heavy item. I'll then try to ship it as a gift of no value, and make sure the NAFTA statement in on the bill of lading.... When shipping to Europe we just have to bite the bullet...
  11. Sure now that the corn season has passed.... Gonna have to try it next year. Wonder if you could do the same thing after Bbq'ing on the grill???
  12. Tenders and maintainers are cheap and do not charge. Good smart chargers cost more and will do it all...
  13. WHO YOU CALLIN' CRANKY??........
  14. MOTRIN...... A seniors best friend....
  15. I said that they sold.... Not aware of any listed lately.... But who knows?? Maybe another set will show up??
  16. Dang!! Hope the guy has lots of insurance coverage....
  17. Long story... I had basically the same thing happen on my new2me '99RSV. P.O. stated that he put a new battery in the bike recently. It was one of those 'Bike Masters'. Anyway it went dead a couple of times, so I replaced it with a DEKA. Things were better, but even the DEKA went dead after sitting a few months during the winter. I did occassionally run it to keep the surfaces oiled. Prior to leaving for the international in Cody I checked the batt and it was charging at 17vdc. I didn't have time to chase things, so left on a prayer. Made it all the way to Thermopolis WY before the battery when totally dead. I ran 2.5 days on battery power alone. Still thought it was the battery... DOH!! Bought a CarQuest battery and made it to Cody. Checked the next morning and the charge rate was 14.2 vdc. Went on a ride and killed the CQ. Finally replaced the rectifier with a new one. Problem solved. The thing hasn't died since, and spins the starter like crazy after sitting for a month or more. So..... you might want to take a look at the rectifier??
  18. Diamond R makes a set of chrome lower deflectors..... Saw a set sell on Ebay recently.
  19. The '85 is a work in progress. It's sorta the beta model for the MKII's and falls about half way between the '83-'84's and the '86-'93's.
  20. Squeeze!! Where ya been? Missed ya buddy.... All rotors on the MKII 1stGens are 298's also. I think the original poster needs to know if the adapter will work on his '83 with the narrower 88mm bolt pattern and get away from swapping out the MKI forks for MKIIs with the 100mm pattern. From the way it reads the adapter is designed to work on the '85 V-Max. If the '85VM's had the same caliper as the 83, then it would work, but I think Yamaha went to a 4 piston caliper on the 85VM, and maybe the '85VR too?? This part makes sense, but don't know if they did it for sure?? The adapter may work on the MKII VR's if someone wanted to upgrade their calipers to the late model V-Max calipers, but sadly if someone wanted to go to any 100mm bolt pattern caliper on thier '83 they are still going to have to swap out the forks....
  21. Looks good to me.. Nice job..
  22. Nope.... I think the R1's are a single pin and the 2gens are double....?? Again.. first cup..
  23. The 2ndGen front pads are SBC FA125... I think??, and the R1's take SBC FA252 pads. The 1stGens take the FA88 on the front..... It's early and my first cup of coffee, so treat the above info as hearsay....
  24. Good for you.....
  25. OK guys... Listen up. This thread is about members that DON'T like the heel part of the shifter. We're not trying to threaten your methods in any way. Personally, I don't really care if you do like the H/T shifter... more power to ya..., but just because you do doesn't mean we all have to abide by your methods. That's what makes the world go 'round. http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg
