I have one of those programs already installed... inSSIDer 2.0. The three strongest router channels are 1,6,&11. So that shoot's down a 'good' idea....

OK, I've heard some remarks about VR.Org being an Eating Club with a Riding Disorder. Wondered if anybody has been watching 'Hairy Bikers' on the HISP cable channel. They ain't riding Ventures, but would fit in here really well..... Even the wife get's a kick out of them, and I find myself laughing.... a lot.... My kinda folks...

Depends on the overall condition of the bike. If it's had a lot of love and TLC, go for it. If it has issues, I'd think twice about it.

Yep, ya gotta know the secret word.... That usb stick is a good idea. Thanks. My current CPU/PCI is buried under the desk in my detached office about 30' and 2 walls away from the router. Being able to remote the stick up on the window sill would give a much better line of sight to the router. My only question is will it support dual band, or does it still live in the single band world?? I tried to find some reference to it but couldn't. I did finally end up on the TP-Link website and see they are bringing out a TL-WDN4800 PCI. 450mbps, dual band, and three antenna technology. Price may be a problem, but it's worth looking into..

Hmmm?? OK I play solitare and do crosswords.. Does that count.

Thanks for the suggestions Mike. From the git-go it ran a little faster and then started to bog down again. Finally couldn't get a thing to move so did a restore. Back in business again, but still have the original problems. This Dell is about 5 years old and it might be getting tired. I still think it might be a hardware issue. I'm running a WMP54G PCI with a newer E4200N dual band router. It should be backwards compatable with the G but there might be some issues. Also is seems like I have very little cache. Downloading multiple pics takes a while where it used to be instantaneous no matter how many there were. Just checked the wife's machine and it's running 14mbps down and about 7 up. Same router different PCI. And her computer is not a storng as this one... 2 megs on the board and about 100g HD. So I think I'll go shopping for a 600N PCI and another graphics card. If that doesn't cure the problem there's always target practice....

OK Mike, I went and did the reset. And.... when I did the restart I got a 'Welcome to Windows 8' window, and asking if I wanted to install it?? I didn't, but wonder now if it might be something I should do??? BTW, Things seem 'spunkier' when browsing, but I have tried it with a video site yet...

Thanks Joe. I think that was the first site I used. Ping times ran 11,11, and 10ms for the 3 tests. I'll go give the wifes a shot later on this morning... I haven't had my first cuppa coffee yet... Stay tuned...

I wouldn't know where to begin to find that stuff, but thanks for the reply. Yeah it would be a ways away..... Thanks Monty. I did go to the link and I see where they have a mail in rebate going on that get's the card down to around $20 bucks. That is another option, Thanks... Thanks but I don't play games... Hand eye co-ordination sucks.. I have a fiber optic line from the ISP at 15mbps, so it's pretty fast. I just did a few speed tests on a couple of different websites and the upload ranges from 2mbps to 8.30mbps. The download ranges 6.3mbps to 12.84mbps. San Francisco, Texas, and NY sources. You may be right about the bottleneck being on the ISP's side, but since the times are all over the place I thought the reason might be the card. It's just been within the last month that I've been experiencing the dithering and pauses. I may replace the card just because since we've replaced about everything else in the wifi path. However I will call the ISP in the AM to see what they've got to say. BTW my wife's computor is doing just fine. It's a slightly newer model. You did mention BlueRay needing a bigger faster cache. That may be the reason as I'm now getting some NetFlix in Blue Ray?? Thanks for the insight... I'm at 3megs RAM. I could go to 4, but wonder if that would make a big difference??? Thanks everyone for all the help so far...

I wasn't going to say anything but now that you've brought it up..... -
I'm thinking about changing out the graphics card on this old Dell XPS 400. I've noticed lately that my hyper speed down loads and streaming video are getting slower. I've cleaned out, tweeked and smoozed everything including the registry to no avail. It's plain sluggish. The wifi router is a brand new linksys E4200 running at 54mbps. So the only thing I can think of is the graphics card may be getting tired. The Dell is running a card in a slot instead of one built in the mother board. Also to throw fuel on the fire I don't know what I should be looking for. This whole graphics card business is confusing as he!!. Prices are all over the place, and discriptions are spoken in some language from another planet. Anyone have any idea what I should be looking for?? Something that isn't going to break the bank, but is good enough to handle big down loads and streaming. I'm at a loss..... :confused07: PS: I,m not into any gaming.... Noticed some of those come with loan papers...

Geeze, how memory fades when you start packing on a few years..... Those ARE your covers Russ. You sent them to me after a member won them at a rally raffle, didn't need them, and told you to send them to me. You couldn't remember who told you to do that, but a least you didn't forget to send them on their way. Many Thanks that member BTW!! They're great!! And.... I tried to get you to make me another set for the '83, but that never happened.... Guess you forgot... -

The OEM brace flexes quite a bit and doesn't work as well as a stiffer aftermarket. Do a search on the board for Fork Brace, there's a lot of information available. It's probably the best performance bang for the buck you can do to a 1stGen. -
Just a heads up. I've been out of fork braces for a couple of months now, but just put in an order for another 10. Only this time around they gonna be anodized black. Thought it would be different... I'll be posting an ad in the classifieds toward the end of next week since I don't know what the cost will be until I get the invoice. I generally want to know about the cost up front, but the machinest has been more than fair with us over the years. So next week.... Attached are a couple of pics of one on my '91 that show what they'll look like installed.

I've been watching Craigslist off and on to see what pops up for a Motorcycle Work/lift Table. I get a lot of listings for plane ol' MC Jacks when searching. It got me to thinking.... again.. Why do manufactures of quote 'MC Jacks' make them where they all need an adapter to fit the frame of a bike. Why can't they just build the jack with adjustable frame pads, especially if they're going to label them MC Jacks?? Maybe they should call them NOT MC Jacks??

Nah... Auction Hunters and Auction Kings.... That's what I kinda figured on the case. The best price I could find for the case, after searching online a bit, was $107 plus whatever shipping would be. It might have been less somewhere else, but that looked like a pretty good price. So the Fender came along for the ride....

I really find nothing wrong with it, and just another way to spread the word and promote patriotism. But that's just me... only one opinion among many.... To each his own...

Ya think maybe we're all getting bored ??????? For those that are keyboard bound I ran across this website. It'll keep you intertained for a while... http://ridingtheedge.net/rushmore.html

I just saw a beautiful leather bound bible sell last Sunday, but I have to agree, I think it was the first I'd seen. I do see American Flags all the time. The two auction houses I patronize locally handle estates. Both are run by the same family. One takes estates only, and the other will take consignments. I've picked up some incredible buys...

As long as you run the bike every month or so your reasoning works. What I can't understand is the seals/o-rings drying out. I can see them getting old and cracking, but drying out?? On the flip side of the coin, a full bowl has more varnish than an 'almost' empty bowl. So if the bike is to be stored where it's not accessable, and maybe the battery has been pulled for the winter?? Maybe draining the carbs might be something to think about. Also I think there's a drain plug on each carb. I wouldn't do it, but it might be a way to empty the bowls completely??
-
That's why I like the older Nolans with a latch on both sides. It's all mechanical. The later models do have a left hand button with a cable runing to the right latch to make it a one handed operation, but if the cable malfunctions the RH latch can still be operated. Helmets with the center button are all cable. I bought a cheap flip up off Ebay for the kids and the 'string' broke after very little use. I threw it in the trash...
-
Been thinking about this... Wouldn't it be better to turn the fuel off and run the carbs dry. Sea Foam will evaporate just like fuel and the varnish in the bowls will still plug things up. In the tank it will still work as a conditioner over the winter... Maybe I'm over thinking things.... ??
