  1. Usually I don't post anything unless it's bike related, but I'd certainly like to get some real time feedback on something that's been rearing it's ugly head for over a year now. According to the Doc I am suffering from Iron Anemia... or lack the stuff in the system. The end result is I have low hemoglobin (red blood cells), and lately can't even mow the lawn without getting short of breath. I feel great as long as I don't move around much... I was actually experiencing symptoms when at Cody, and the altitude didn't help much either. Just wondering if anyone else has gone thru this and the outcome??
  2. No lightening here, but we finally got rain!!! It's been almost 2 and a half months of nothing, and that's during the rainy season...... With Japan sitting 13 feet closer to California after their big shake, plus all the rest of the major quakes and eruptions we've had world wide in the last two years, it makes one wonder if the whole weather scheme of things hasn't been altered....
  3. All those codes at the end of the year have always been confusing to me. Never have figured them out, and frankly don't want to. The only letter that's of any importance is the one in the VIN#. D is '83, E is '84, F is '85 etc. They skip the I and O because they look too much like the numerals 1 and 0. The easieest way to tell if it came off the line as a Royale or a Standard is if the bike has the CLASS system it's a Royale. If it doesn't it's a Standard.
  4. On #2, If you look closely you can sort of see the lock wedge that fits in the bag tang and keeps the bag from getting legs. Sometimes, because the lock is really dirty in side the wedge will not pull completely out of the tang. Take a thin knife blade and help it retract. When it's out of the way give the bag a healthy bump towards the rear of the bike. This should get it off.
  5. That's my thought. The RSV seat is really dished out, deep, and it won't let you sit farther back on the bike. That's where I ran into my problems. When Rick reworked my Pillow he tried to keep the saddle as high as possible. Hope it works. If not I did see a seat on Ebay that looks like it might work.... then again it might be an opitical illusion?? Here's a pic I saved. It look like the seat has been raised up quite a bit.... The maker did have the pic under the RSTD heading, but it looks like it'd apply to the RSV as well. Notice how the saddle cup has been reduced....
  6. You might need to turn on the accept cookies....
  7. I've looked at the Flanders Larry, but I need some distance between my gut and the grips, not less.....
  8. A new tire will help, but don't expect it to be as nimble as a lighter bike... Keep the tire pressures up to max... Another thing I found with mine was the steering bearing needed to be tighten. There's a write up on how to do it without tearing everything apart in the tech section...
  9. One of the big problems I found when moving from a 1stGen to a 2ndGen RSV was the limited amount of adjustment to the grip position. Even the risers don't offer much help unless your arm length challenged. They will move the grips up, but will also move them back. I'm a big guy and would like to get the grips farther away from me so that they're not sitting in my lap. I wish someone made a set of bars that came out about 6" to clear the dash, and then rolled up and out. The way they are now I'm constantly pushing back into the seat (pillow top) to make room. The first long distance ride my a$$ suffered big time. I've had Rick Butler rework the seat since then but haven't had a chance to test it out. On the 1stGen the designers made it so the grips could move in'n'out 3-4" and up and down 3-4". I rode tons of miles with them up and out and never had any discomfort. I know seat and grip position is completely subjective, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.....
  10. My granddaughters fiancé just went back to Iraq for the 4th time. Only this time as a civilian. He went to work for a company that supplies personal protection for big dogs and dignitaries. He's there for 6 months and home for 6 weeks. While deployed he pulls down super big bucks per year, all expenses paid. When back home he makes $25,000 per year while waiting to be deployed again. He says it's the most boring job he's ever had.... I'm sure it's like flying an airplane. Hours and hours of shear boredom interrupted by moments of stark terror.....
  11. Bet the list came off a site like Advrider. There are enough tools on that list to rebuild an offroad bike.... Ride-On in the tires, 12vdc tire pump, minium tools, and a cellphone....
  12. OK my bad. I think of Spammers as advertisers, as in classifieds. Fubar in reading compression. So I guess this makes a good case to allow open forum reading, but posting only by VR supporters??? Most boards I browse are like that. Sure would eliminate the spam if they have to pay for it. Spammers love free sites....
  13. Didn't I just read a post about fixing chrome?? Can't find the link, but here's another that looks interesting.... http://sacchromepaint.reachlocal.net/ This is local to me, but maybe there are others??
  14. Then I guess I don't understand what the problem is, but it seems to me if they can't get in to post, then they can't spam the classifieds?? If they're giving you the $12 bucks to be a supporting member, and then abusing the classifieds, dump them and keep the money... Sounds like a win lose situation to me..... Lemme see?? 83x$12....
  15. This would be a good case to let supporting members only post in the classifieds, rather than anyone who drops in. I used to run a marine classified section on my web site. All went well for about a month, but once the spammers discovered it they were all over it like white on rice. I finally killed it. Wasn't worth the hassle...
  16. Gosh that's cheap.... I'd been searching, and found an NOS in the package on Ebay. I wanted it bad, so tossed a ridiculous $100 snipe at it.... and was out bid !! by a guy in Europe somewhere... That said I wonder if a set of these could be scanned and 3D printed?? Being in metal doesn't help function all that much and chromed plastic would look just as nice. They're sacrificial and replacement would be a lot cheaper....
  17. You've got a month or two to look. I'd start watching Craigslist.... For $4-$5 grand you can find a nice '99 RSV.
  18. We're snow challenged arouind here as well. Woke up this AM to 24deg, and rain is on the way for Thursday and Friday. Maybe?? Actually my front lawn can stay bare and brown, it's the Sierras that need the snow pack. Otherwise the lawn will stay unchanged thru next summer. I hate water rationing....

Just had another thought.... dangerously thinking.... What would the results be if all the objects were different instead of yellow dots... Car.. motorcycle.. bike.. pedestrian??? I wonder if the results would be the same??
  20. Sure... Although some of them I'll unsubscribe when they start becoming a 'chat room'... You know the kind... As far as getting a lot of notices, it all depends on how technical they become, and how much I can learn. Most are one or two reply threads, and will drift off into subscription history.....
  21. I automatically subscribe to all threads I post to. In this case I get duplicates of the same reply, not from different replies....
  22. Why do I get duplicate new post notices emailed to me every once in a while?? Sometimes there's a bunch and sometimes only a couple, and then nothing for sometimes months. I don't think it's my ISP, or Website host, as it only happens with the new post notices??? It doesn't cause any issues... just wondering..
  23. And they say you can't take it with you.....
  24. Try this.... http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2012/01/dakar_rally_2012.html
