  1. Try disconecting the Deka and see if it will still hold a charge for a month. If it goes down any at all, it's the battery. I know it's a long time, but that's the only way to check static discharge. Case in point. I murdererd my Deka in the '99 by running it on battery only to Cody.. the story's been posted on the board a couple of times.... I took it down to 8.9vdc on the multimeter. It did recharge in the motel room over night, and I did run it back to Sacramento, but I can't leave it sit for more than a month without it going dead. It used to be good after sitting for 3-4 months. I think it's screwed up, and I'll probably replace it come summer. BTW I do have an aftermarket rectifyer installed. It was the reason it died on the way to Cody.
  2. There's a ton of them on Ebay for around $20 bucks. Do a google search for
  3. I don't think it's the mechanics problem. That's the way the '83 brakes DON'T work normally. Delinking the brakes will help a little on the front, adding HH pads will also help, but the only way to get a big improvement is convert to R1 or R6 brake calipers. The only problem is it's not cheap. I'd delink, and then shop Ebay for the things you'll need at your leasure....
  4. I'd been up in the triples a couple of times with the '83, but I don't care what bike I'm riding the thought of a tire blowing out at that speed always brings me back to sane MPH's pretty damn quick.......

    SCAM??

The scammer is posting all over the US on Craigslist. I notified CL and they haven't done a damn thing about it. I even tried flagging because the ads are all posted in the wrong area, and they just keep coming daily.
  7. Since you're trying to save a few bucks, replacing might be the cheapest way to go.... unless you want to try Gleam Toothpaste. Those polishing kits are gonna cost you with no guarantee...
  8. I knew that.... But there's still no help for those under 25 as they are already brain dead.... and it has the reverse effect....
  9. I wonder if that stuff is part of the Catalytic Converter??? Otherwise that's a weird way to get rid of your ex-wife....
  10. You didn't mention how old, and what type battery you have?? An old battery can be charged to full, but can loose a charge very quickly just sitting. Best way to to check is take it to you local auto parts store and have them put a load test on it. I had a battery in my Suburban that checked out fine using the multimeter and would take a full charge, but it wouldn't hold a charge sitting overnight. Took it to my battery dealer and he got the same results.... until he put a load on it. It croaked. It had an internal short. Also what is the charge rate when it's in the bike?? Anything in the mid 13's or over 14.6, and you could have a funky rectifyer...
  11. 110ma battery drain isn't enough to discharge a 250-300cca battery over 3 months. Reducing it to a 70ma draw won't make that much of a difference. Me thinks you still have a basttery/charger/rectifyer problem...??
  12. Check to see if the ignitiion switch hasn't been by-passed...
  13. Google: yamaha venture "royal star venture" -chevy -chevrolet -ski -snow -rs -snowmobile site:craigslist.org
  14. You might toss another set of pads on....and check to see if the surface of the rotors haven't got some junk on them...

  16. Don't think it's going to be long before this one goes viral.....
  17. Dang, the time of the year is right, and there's enough time to do some 'think' planning.... Might be a real good reason to hold a Cody Reunion...

Lone Eagle sent this to me this morning. I like it a lot.... Too bad she's downunder... Annie??
  19. I'm not sure, but how about copying the shortcut link and posting it in the sig file instead of the actual pic??
  20. I have one of those high priced half covers and they do look kinda cool, and do protect the bike when it's raining...straight down, but if it's not... or your in a dust storm... forget it. If you're looking for something that doesn't take up a lot of room for overnights pick up one of those 'El Cheepo' full covers from China off Ebay. I pick them up for about $17-$18 bucks delivered, and they will shed water and do the job, and since they aren't on all the time they'll last a very long time. They're also made out of a light weight material and pack up small enough to not take up a lot of room in the saddle bag. I even double them up for outside storage during the winter.
  21. I used to drive a lot of miles up and down the state of California, and a lot of them were at night in the San Juaquin Valley. Because of all the agriculture it was a breading ground for buggy critters, and I killed a lot of them. I had one company car that was dark pepper green and in a year and a half the front was bug blasted down to the white undercoating. On my business truck when ever I'd stop for fuel at a truck stop on I-5 N or S I noticed that the bugs came right off without using any elbow grease and scrubbing. I finally asked a cashier about it, and they said they put a cup of ammonia in the cleaning water. I'm not going to use Ammonia when cleaning plastic on the RSV, but it does work on glass. I don't get anywhere near that amount on the RSV, but do kill a few. What I can't figure out is why everyone seems to have his or her special voodoo formula for cleaning the bike windshield, and make it sound very difficult. I just carry a can of Pledge and 3-4 micro-towels in the saddle bag. It's the quickest and easiest.... and simplest method to use. No soaking the windshield, no soapy solutions, no hosing anything down.. etc. I can be anywhere and have a clean windshield in 2 minutes. Even in a rest stop....
  22. My F250 is my business vehicle, but it sits for long periods of time. Costs me about $50 bucks to fill one tank with diesel.... every 3 to 4 months....
  23. I wonder how a single edged razor blade would work. If the paint is raised it just might work?? I use one on our range top to clean off the carbon (read burnt) deposits and it works great. Doesn't scratch the surface. Using chemicals around plastics always makes me leary...
  24. We have one here in Sacramento a couple of times a year. I checked it out last summer, and it's the same old thing. Enough Harley junk to restore every old knuckle or iron head in the world....three times over. I guess these sellers think there's a market for the stuff, and don't realize that bins fill up daily, and add to the pile. It should be taken to the recycler and sold for scrap metal. There used to be one held at a MC accessory dealer in a neighbopring town that was pretty good. It was a first class operation, but unfortunately they didn't survive the eco-bust..... I did find some great stuff tho- Even a few road kill Venture parts....
  25. It's a Motorvation built in Iowa. The model is called a Back Pack 20 without the wing, and the last 4 digits of the vin are five-two-eight-four. I have also notified Motorvation about the theft and included a couple of pictures. It's a long shot but you can never tell?? Repainting is always a possibility. But it's a PITA to get a trailer registered without a signed off title here in Ca. I bought a 6x10 inclosed out of a local bankruptcy auction. Getting the title signed off... the owners had disappeared... was so difficult that after 2 years the auction house finally bought the trailer back at retail, so I didn't get hurt, and it still took them another year to get a clear title.
