  1. A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines. United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar ($3500) during a flight. Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar. During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for youtube exposing their lack of cooperation. The Manager responded: "Good luck with that one, pal." So he posted a retaliatory video on youtube. The video has since received over 6 million hits. United Airlines contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was: "Good luck with that one, pal." Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has led to a sharp increase in orders. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=5YGc4zOqozo
  2. I really like mine..... Do the trade. You can pick up a clean set of OEM's off ebay later on.... BTW they are rebuildable when the time comes...
  3. Venture Royale = VR Mark 1 = MKI = '83VR to '85VR Mark 2 = MKII = '86VR to '93VR RSV = Royal Star Venture RSTD = Royal Star Tour Deluxe
  4. Maybe... maybe not.. I'm at around 50' above sea level, and get 36-38mpg with the '83 around town. Take it into the High Sierras (2000'-5000') and twisties, and she'll get 50mpg. My 99RSV gets 26-28mpg...haven't got around to tweaking it yet... but when I rode up to Shell Falls with twisties in Wyoming I got 40mpg. Granted running on the slab in 5th gear at 75+mph, and I don't care what altitude your at, you're going to suck fuel....
  5. Me too!!

    MK1 Carcasses

After looking at them, I believe they are both early '83's. The key is the side cover stringer. The very early models had a rubber nub that the side cover snapped onto. They changed that fairly soon and went to the rubber strap. These look like they may have the nub. Also remember to pick up the MKI trailer hitch. I wouldn't bother trying to pick up the whole carcass. Just cherry pick the good stuff if the price is right...
  7. I may be wrong but when I just measured a spare rack all the tubing measures aprox. 7/8th" with the exception of the rear cross member at 1/2" Perhaps there are two different sized racks??? EDIT: Dang I was thinking of the mounting rack, not the 'luggage' rack... My bad, should have looked a little closer.
  8. I'm with you. It's BS. 50:1 mix with a good quality 2-cycle oil will work fine. I have a lot of left over Mercury O/B 2-cycle, and use it in everything 2-cycle.
  9. A broken watch has the right time twice a day..... A broken bike is.... broken..
  10. Haven't seen anything on Ponch's recovery in a while. Any news??
  11. Did my daughter make a mistake? She called and said it was 109degs in Loredo yesterday..... Wha??
  12. If I'm not halucinating again, I believe you can replace the entire shift pin assembly with one from a 2ndGen?? The pins are solid and will never fall out... I think??
  13. Geeze!! Ya know in psychology circles they have a term for folks that constantly degrade someone else, but since this is a PG board I can't post it.....
  14. The first batch of the '84 model year hit the shores of the US in '83, ergo the '83 vin#. Why?? Who knows?? Just a little more Yamaha history lore..... I have # 89
  15. It's an '84..... The only year they had that type of choke set. I also own one. Actually it's an '84/'83' with an '86 1300cc motor. It's very confused....
  16. Gary, I tried blowing up the pic of the left grip as much as I could and still be recognizable. It 'kinda' looks like the choke set is in front of the grip instead of a slider on the bottom of the L.H. controls. If it is the rotate type you have an '84 with an '83 Vin. The reason I started looking is they only had red and gold bikes in '83. Very nice bike BTW.....
  17. Man I'm getting melancholy looking at that thing... Very nice job Rick...
  18. My '99 doesn't whine.... So they don't 'All' have the problem. Also straight cut gears on the clutch basket have been used since the 1983 Venture.. and maybe even before that.. and to my knowledge there has never been a report of an 'unbearable' whine on a 1stGen. If it's under warantee jump up and down and scream about the problem. If the 'I' basket doesn't help then look at the final....
  19. Personally I think it's too long with too much 'thought' dialogue. Cell phone usage is one factor, but Left Hand Louies are the bigest contributor to MC accidents... Maybe a series of MC accident scenes with the car drivers saying 'I didn't see him' over and over.....
  20. My bad, I meant to say pick up another OEM CB antenna lead co-ax. Replacing just the wire is a PITA..... There's a bunch of tiny springs and caps up under that crimp.... Like I said previously I did splice a new mount to the original co-ax on the AM/FM side, but it took a whole lot of shade treeing. I wouldn't attemp it on the CB side I have a bad habit of I assuming everyone knows what I'm talking about when I don't.....
  21. When I order mine over the phone I asked for 2 bottles and they turned me onto the 3 bottle special for about the same price. You may want to call them on the land line and mention Venture Rider???
  22. Gander Mtn.
  23. Good luck with that suction cup. I tried mounting the Garmin on my 1stGen using the cup and it came loose a couple of times while moving at freeway speeds. When in the truck I never had a problem. I think it's the viabration...??
  24. I'd go ahead and replace the wire. It's not that long to begin with... probably 18" or so since the CB is under the trunk. I have repaired the am/fm side but it ain't easy, and not nearly as technical...
