  1. If someone local to you has a trailer you can borrow that would be the best way to go. I've also seen some bike trailers sell for cheap on Craigslist?? Or.... rent a U-Haul one-way in Vegas, but it's probably the most expensive...
  2. WOW!! That's the cheapest I've ever seen it. My daughter works for ACE Hardware and I get the stuff for $5.20 a can, and bought a case. At $4.99 I'd load up....
  3. You might try tossing in another rectifier to see what happens to your charge rate before going after the stator.... The rectifier controls the stator output when a load is sensed. Also pull the DEKA and put it on a smart charger. Once it's full check the voltage. Should be 12.7-12.9vdc, and taper off to 12.6vdc over night...
  4. I think it'll foul plugs only when used the first time in a system that's been sitting for a while and pretty gummed up. I've experienced it on several bikes. A good clean out with a full can to a full tank, and it'll run better, but not great. Fresh plugs and a sync and it hauls a$$. Taking into consideration that the plugs where old to begin with, I can't really say with absolute that it wasn't the plug condition that caused the fouling except that it did run better. For normal Sea Foam usage I add a 'blurp' every 3 to 4 tanks, or when I suspect getting gas that may not be the greatest... I keep a can in the saddle bag...
  5. If you bed down in Cody for the night you might try the Skyline Motor Inn. They're biker friendly and have treated members of VRO great in '09 and the International in '11. Say 'Hey' to Roger or Peggy if you check in.... You're gonna have fun.....
  6. Have you added an after market forkbrace??
  7. First off that battery you found in there was something a P.O. tossed in there to make the bike salable, and the big reason for the sluggish starting. Before doing anything else replace it with one of the DEKA ETX18L's. It's the proper footprint for the battery box. It will amaze you....
  8. Back on November 4th 1967, two very young people decided to tie the knot. I was blessed to marry the magnificent Nadine I. Templin, and she remained the love of my life for the next 45 years. Wife, Mother, Teacher, Councilor, Friend. Last night she lost a battle with liver cancer, and there was nothing I could do to fix it. She was surrounded by family and close friends, and slipped away peacefully. She’s now in a much better place, and God has inherited a mighty warrior of the Gospel. Rest in Peace Sweety, I love you…..
  9. 83's run in tandem with the outside temps. On a cool morning the needle wil stay in the mid range of the swing. On hot afternoons it will climb higher and when it get's into the 90-100 range the needle will hang just below the redline. There's one thing your buddy might check. Is the drain valve turned to off?? And new coolant with a little 'water wetter' will make the system more efficient and help a bit..... There is also a stator cooler mod that was done to the 83's and some 84's to keep the stator running cooler. The kit can be found listed on eBay occassionally, and I bet a few of the members here have them stashed away in their 'kit' bags.....
  10. Found it on Ebay. The seller was up in Idaho If I remember correctly?? They use the stuff to pack race bike exhausts. It will withstand higher temps than glass packing. I wrapped the baffle with stainless screen from McMaster-Carr before wrapping with the ceramic. So far so good. Rode to Cody and back... 2500mis...last year, and I can tell if there's been any change in the sound. Found this on YouTube that was interesting. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEsLktGzNx8]Ceramic Fiber wool vs Steel Wool. This is going to be used for muffler packing - YouTube[/ame]
  11. I rebuilt a set of bubbs using ceramic packing and like the sound a lot...
  12. So put a wad of tissue in the bottom.... or stop wearing monoculars..... Just to check things to make sure I know wheat the 'H' I'm talking about I checked a pair of glasses in a spare Hopnel bib I have. Attached are the results and pics. You must have very short fingers....
  13. And that's the one I'm going to use to replace the OEM Ventureline double pouch I have now because the pockets are so shallow I can't get a pair of shades or digital camera in the thing. The Hopnel at least allows the camera and glasses with room to spare. I don't toss spare change in them....
  14. Not really.... More like a sealant. I use this method to secure splices from mono to spectra on my tuna rigs. I thought it might help get rid of the weepage..... Save Ducks!! Use Crazy Glue....
  15. You might want to consider using crazy glue on the cloth wire cover that goes thru the gromet. It will keep the oil from wicking thru and cause a leak. Use Permatex afterwards to create a seal between the cover and the gromet. Think of it this way. You have three wires that are bundled, and down the center they will create a small gap. The type that oil loves and will drive you nutz....
  16. I just got off the phone with Brian, and from what we can figure out he drifted on to the shoulder road a tad, over corrected, and got into a tank slapper, and high sided. He ended up on the other side of the road from the bike. He was out there by himself, but an on coming car stopped to help out within minutes. They called 911 for an ambulance and it took him to a hospital in Tonopah, stabilized him, and he then was life flighted him down to Las Vegas in a fixed wing plane. His wife and sister-in-law are both with him in LV as that's where they were headed for their vacation. Brian was riding down, they drove. They'll be driving back up to Vacaville next Monday or Tuesday, and will spend a few days there recouperating. The bike is in a salve yard in Vegas, and I guess it's toast. There were some nice additions to it, and in mint condition when the accident occured. According to Brian there isn't any plastic left. The saddles are the only things intack but pretty chewed up.
  17. Go the trailer route. I've done both, but I ride solo, and even then when hauling a bunch of stuff up to Cody last year I couldn't have packed it on the bike. Two up.... trailer time. For a 2-3 nighter a duffle type bag fits crosswise in the navigator seat nicely.
  18. sorry to hear about the accident brian anything I can do to help let me know
  19. Yeah, mine won't stay on either.... Sounds like the pumps OK, so the only way it can be coming out the overflows is by getting by the float bowl check valves?? And are all 4 carbs overflowing??
  20. So apparently it's happened before?? Same LEO?? Unfortunately having a cam amongst a bunch of joyriding crotch rockets might be a reason to get pulled over. Guilty by association. If he wasn't recording anything at the time then the cam should show that. Sometime we're the fly swatter, and sometimes we're the fly.....
  21. As far as I know there is no adjustment. It either works or it's bad. When you turn on the ignition can you hear it pump and then shut down??
  22. I wonder if I need a Class A license to pull a set of doubles????? And I bet backing up would be intertaining....
  23. First off the video looks like it was shot during the day to me, not 10 at night.... And a quick pan shot of the dash didn't look like it was a Venture. I think there's more to this story than what was shown on your video cam...??
