When I had to make a key for the '90VR it was lightly etched on the back. Tried to read it with a mirror, but couldn't make it out. Maybe it was an option for the 'official stamper of the day'??

Actually it's on the back and very lightly scribed. It's an SOB to read without removing the switch...which is also a PITA....

Remember it doesn't come with any mounting harware. 4 stainless cap screws will run about 6 bucks from ACE hardware... It is cheep when compared to the retail of a Super Brace...if it actually is a SB?? The 'Condor' brace we did a lot of group buys on was priced out at $65 to the US and $76 to Cda. So $40 including shipping is still a decent price... BTW the cap size is 8mmx1.25.

You shouldn't have to. One thing to remember is after a sealer made out of silicon is used, resealing with another sealer will not work unless the surfaces are cleaned completely, and the only way I know how to get back to bare metal is mildly sanding the surface. What happens is the pores of the metal become contaminated with silicon, and nothing will stick to the cured silicon...not even more silicon... I usually take a piece of scrap of window pane and lay a sheet of mild grit sand paper on the glass. Get as much of the sealer off the cover as best you can then take the cover and work it on the sandpaper in a circular motion. This will also true the surface back up. On the mating surface I use a large flat sanding block. Once this is done using the gasket only will not leak.

Don't forget to spray the weld with a clear coat.....?

Black Owl was the first to find those ball studs at McMaster. I used to have the part number stashed somewhere.... but old age and all??? If I remember correctly at the time they were about $1.00+ so I bought about a dozen or so. I bet BO still has the number hostage and might respond to bribes. BTW, they have a 5/16" thread and fit 1stGen side covers perfectly and do not need to be modified....

I had to reweld the trunk bracket on the '91 in four places. Cost me 10 bucks at my local muffler shop. Just shot the weld with a clear coat afterwards. It's been a couple of years now and nothings rusting.....

Have a safe trip.... And hope the weather holds for you... We're getting hammered out here on the west coast...

Whether you're changing, or adding, oil on a trip a funnel can be made out of a heavier magazine cover and a piece of tape. Just roll it into a cone, tape it, and cut a bit off the end.... Makes the job a lot less messy and it's disposable afterwards....

I don't know why Bubb doesn't bite the bullet, polish the dang aluminum tips, and shoot them with high temp clear. That's what I did when rebuilding mine as I just didn't care for the black tips... They now look like new...

I had both of mine done a couple of years ago. Usually they will rig you up for a shock test before doing anything to check how bad it is.... My right hand went dead permanently after riding a twisty 25 mile goat trail... Usually I could put on the cruise and shake the hand back to life, but not this time... I had the shock test in both hands and they checked out equally affected, even though the left hand never showed any signs of numbness... They did the numb hand first because it had been about 5 months since the ride. I was worried that the damage might have been permanent, but luckily the only after effects are the tips of my ring and middle finger are 'slightly' numb. The reason for doing one at a time is try zipping and wiping with both hands bandaged up... Good luck on your surgery. It's great riding without your hands going numb.....

You got that right.....

Hmmm... Sold an '87 F250 4x4 6.9idi diesel with 365,000 on the clock. Ran great with no problems. My current '92 F250 4x4 7.3idi diesel is creeping up on 275,000 and so far I've had to replace a drive shaft U-joint. Running great. Mpg on the '87 was about 15mpg, and the '92 gets 17-18. Now my old '73 GMC 4x4 with a 350 gas motor never got above 11mpg downhill with a tailwind. Thank God fuel was down below $1.00/gal. It didn't make any difference which of the 5 engines I had in it over the 17 years and 400,000 miles I owned it.. Lately I had been looking at used King Ranch and Harley F250's, but have decided to keep the '92. Better motor and no smog. Been thinking about getting it painted and upholstered and dropping a crate 7.3 in it when the time comes.

DDD did a segment on Gatsby's here in Sacramento, and they had to start taking reservations because of the huge increase in business. My wife and I made reservations and when we showed up we wouldn't have been able to get a table unless we had. And this was months after the segment aired. Great burger by the way....

Sounds like a great place to live. I'm jealous.. How long ago did you leave?? It may be that tourist biz is hurting with all the indian gaming casinos that have cropped up in NorCal, and tourism might be even lighter?? With all those Susanville LEO agencies out to get us I never saw one while we were there for the weekend back at VWIII. Don't get me wrong, I don't care where VWV will be held, I'll be there. There may be other ideas besides Tahoe and Susanville. What say you Westcoasters?? Another thought. I personally don't think that having the Venture West around or even at the same time as any other Eastern VR function, including the International, is going to hurt either function. There may be a few members that would like to attend both, but for the most part, the VW gives those western members something to look forward to rather than waiting til next year.

The Rodeway SLT is a good start, and the weekend after Labor Day works too. Anytime before Memorial Day and the weather could get dicey. Any time between Memorial Day and LD will be crowded...even the back roads... Did you get any feedback from the Chamber yet?? That's the one thing about Susanville. 100 miles further north, great riding country, and the Best Western is a good place to stay. One thing we've learned after doing a few of these get togethers is you can't please all the people all the time...
