cruise control
Condor replied to Black wing's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When you go to set the cruise punch the set button twice, or hold it in and count to 10. You do have to be in 4th or 5th gear and going over 30-35mph... Don't ask how I know that.... -
Plus take a sheet and drape it over the window with an air space betwen it and the plastic. That'll give you a little more heat....
-
Did you check to see if it had the infamous 'whine'? Needing a paint job I'd put the value at $4500 - $5000. That AZ sun can be bruttle....

That one in Az could be a buy if it goes really cheap. But w/150K on the ODO and the title being salvage??

Never rode the Voyager. I did go look at one, and after fiddling with the saddle bags decided it's not worth the effort. They fall somewhere between a hard shell and tupperware. Way too flimsy for this rider.....

I know whacha mean about remembering things. BTW you went from E3's to 404's in the blink of an eye.... Hang in there. I think I'm going to start taking Ginka Loba.....

In the past I've picked up several things off the WOOT website. Everything from GPS's to Cameras, and in between. Got some really great deals. Then... WOOT sold out to Amazon, and now the site is in the dumpster. Prices are not any better than can be found with very little effort elsewhere. I wonder what they were thinking when they bought the site?? It's become just another Amazon outlet. I used to check it first thing every morning to see what the deal of the day was. Now I'm about ready to not waste my time.......

It's Feb 1. Hope the surgery is very successful. We're praying for ya kid....

I ran it in the Avon front tire of the '83 and it worked great. Still haven't treated the '99 yet, but will. One item is the stuff will not balance a tire, but rather fine tune it. So you still need to get them balanced.

I got mine off eBay, but I haven't seen any listed lately. That's why I wondered if they were still available. I also ran acrossed a website that had them, but can't remember which one... Old age ya know.... OK, here ya go. There may be others. http://motorcycletrailershop.com/osc/product_info.php?products_id=143

Lots of the hacking going around lately. Generally the addressee get's an email with a link in the text and nothing else. I get a lot of them thru my biz address. Never open, just delete. Another type the hot link. I drag over the link, and if it shows a url other than something the text relates to, it get's round filed also....

I opted to put a tilt ball on the bike, however I'm not sure if they still make them?? That way any trailer will work.... True it won't flip over, but it will handle bouncing over a curb in a tight turn... don't ask...

Yep.... Since the 99's not quite as fast as my '83 'Old Gold', I nick named her 'Miss Piggy'.. http://www.cast-aways.com/QUICKY/misspiggy.jpg

I've been in California for 65 years, and 40 of that have been putting a lot of miles on two wheels commuting on freeways back and forth to college on my Aerial Square 4 in L.A. traffic. So I guess I might qualify to comment on lane splitting just a little, and I gotta laugh at all the 'what ifs' posted on this thread. First off there are very few accidents that involve or have been caused by lane splitting. When they do occur it's from some idiot splitting lanes at 50 to 60mph on the freeway. Generally on a crotch rocket, but they cause accidents all over the place anyway, and someday that gene pool will disappear. For the most part lane splitting is done in congested traffic below 15mph or bumper to bumper, and it isn't done indiscriminately at one constant speed, but varied according to the conditions and when it's safe to do so. Summer time :scorched:is the high season for splitting due to the increase of MC's on the road. I don't split. I could never get the nerve. It's amazing how small that gap looks like from the rear on a bike... Almost the same illusion as how big a bike looks when laying on it's side. Spliting isn't legal, but it's not illegal either, and not everyone splits, but to say it's dangerous as all get out is a mistake. If you don't want to split....don't. No one will make fun of you....

I had a dent like that on a CB750 I did a frame up restoration on. Since it was going to get painted anyway I just filled it with bondo. Never knew it was there afterwards...

New sound on the bike
Condor replied to dwatson636's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The inside pad will wear quicker that the outside. Have you checked the trailing edge of the inside?? That noise is not right. I'd pull the calipers and take a better look. It's not that big of a deal to pull them. Metal on metal will leave marks somewhere. Bleed the brake and clutch system while you're at it.... -
You might want to double check your coverage. Just because you have Un doesn't neccessarly mean you have under. They don't go hand in hand. Some companies automatically link them and others don't. The way some get around the requirement is they buy a policy and then pay a monthly premium. The get the card, register the vehicle and then let the policy lapse. When it comes around to renewing they do it again. If it's an illegal they never register a car or apply for insurance. If they get into an accident they just walk away.

R6 & De-link Brake Questions
Condor replied to luke000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Locking up the front brakes will not increase stopping power, just the opposite. Traction will, and that something that is almost constant, given tire size possibilities, and the amount of the tire that actually contacts the pavement. That's why ABS brakes will do so much better in a panic stop. They are designed to keep the tire patch on the road and prevent lockup and sliding.. 14mm masters will do just fine to run the calipers. One of the last things you want to do is make the front brakes touchy.... -

Do a search on Ebay for I found 3 of them in various styles...and prices... :-) -
Only if you have the uninsured and underinsured option on your policy. You can however still sue for damages in civil court... good luck... If they don't have insurance, generally they don't have anything to protect.
-
Your canceling of the un-insured/under-insured portion of your coverage might not have been a smart thing to do. Ask Yammer Dan about his experience. If the accident is not your fault and the other party is insured for only the minimum coverage, your insurance has no obligation to cover your costs. I've found that Geico has the most economical coverage for my two bikes. '91VR and 99RSV. I had my trailer stolen in Feb 2012 and they took care of the claim to my satisfaction... BTW the trailer did not need a policy rider. They just asked for the VIN#, make, and model for their records. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but here in the Kingdom of Kalifornia, by law a driver only needs to carry minimum liability of 15/30. Full coverage would be for liability, medical, and comprehensive, but still can only have the 15/30. Personally I carry 100/300, but have been giving some thought to bumping it up to 250/500 because the dollar has been taking the inflation hit lately. MY
