R6 calipers brake performance
Condor replied to kbert777's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not sure you're going to get much better braking with the 4 piston R1 calipers over the 4 piston OEMs on your 89. There's a big improvement by swapping the forks from MKI's to MKII's and putting them on an 83-85. They are a plug and play on the MKII, and the blue dots do look cool You'd also be getting aprox 10-12 year newer calipers.... -
Supposed to hit 109 in NorCal this Saturday.....:scorched: http://www.bullheadcityblog.com/images/fried-egg.jpg

Well Jeff there ain't much left of the pos terminal to check. Either way it looks like I'll be calling Bohannon in the AM. But from what you guys are saying it's a loose screw.... Here's a couple of pics.

Went to start the '07 this morning after putting the charger on it overnight. The batt registered FULL on the screen. The engine turned over like a jack rabbit, but wouldn't start. Choke out, fuel on, kill switch..not killing..., neutral. Then while cranking I notice that the positive anode on the battery had melted a little and a bit of lead was running down the side of the batt about an inch. The negative was fine. Tried starting again and every time I hit the starter button I got sparks flying off the connection and light wisps of smoke. I did check for looseness of the connection and it wasn't tight, but suspect it was because of the melted lead. The anode was extreemly hot and the rubber boot smelled and was partially burnt. I've chased a lot of electrical grremlins, but this is a first. Before I go tearing into everthing, anyone have any experience with something like this, with the positive getting hot and the negative being OK??? It got me befuzzled...

I've had a bunch of root canal/crowns done, and every one of them has failed after about 5 years. Then they want more money to extract the tooth.... Dentists get you coming and going... So now the inside of my mouth is a train wreck. I have been looking at having the bad ones replaced with this new post and crown replacement. Supposed to be much cheaper than implants, and a one day turn around too. I've had cruising/sailing friends that have had work done in La Paz MX for about a third of the price stateside. Fly down for 3 days, have the work done, and lay on the beach for a couple of days drinking Cervesas. Most of the dentists down there are graduates of a US dental school. And now I'm back. Started this post about 14 hours ago. Garage sale stuff is now set up and tomorrow hopefully will be a big day... Whew!!

Oh well.... That lets me out...

Now why didn't someone tell me that when I had to remove all the decals off an inclosed trailer I picked up. I tried everything else.... Finally found a razor blade scrapper and WD40 made it easier. Still was a PITA.... And had the ghosts...

I run a spread sheet of what it would have cost if the OEM bling were bought new, plus additions. Of course a lot of it came with the '99 when I bought it, and most of the add ons were bought used and in some cases rebuilt or refurbed. But if I had spent the bucks out of my pocket, the total hits $6667.00, and that doesn't include the cost of the bike. But being a cheap SOB it doesn't come anywhere near that. Geico automatically has a 2 grand rider for add ons. Scary..

That's terrific Annie. May you and Alan enjoy many more....

For a while I had an HD broadcast TV antenna set up for the computor. The antenna looked like nothing more than a 3 piece auto antenna. No direction to it. I stuck mine in the window of the office.. If you need to get it up enough for reception perhaps 3-8' antenna post extensions with a few guywires might work. I take it you don't have cable or satilite in your area??

found fuel leak now what??

The pic would be nice.... -
Here's my thinking on the trailer shape.... I may be wrong?? But... air flow over the top of an airplane wing creates lift by a low pressure area above the wing. When air flow is increased over the top of a trailer by a sloped front toward the bike it will form a low pressure and lift the trailer. A trailer front sloped back away from the bike...from the top toward the rear.. should create a low pressure beneath the trailer and keep it more stable...?? How much effect does this have on a trailer?? Probably not much... IMHO...

So stopped by the new Auto Zone store and see that they are carrying Rotella T-6 in 5-40, and a Rotella Blend in 10-30?40. I've been giving some thought to trying out a synthetic. The concern is the '07 has 79K on the odo, and it might be a little worn to go to a straight syn, and maybe the blend might be a better choice. The '99 has 50k on it and wonder the same for it. I hope this thread won't go south into a 'less filling..tastes great' debate on the best oil to use. We've had enough of those already....

The tongue coming off can sometimes happen when the trailer has a worn 2" coupler and the ball is 1 7/8". One way to be absolutely sure the tongue doesn't get airborn is to brace the rear with a set of those El Cheapo braces that are available at Harbor Freight... There's an orange one laying on the ground in one of the pics. Once in a while I'll flub and put the 2" trailer on a 1/7 and it'll work as long as the tongue weight is positive, but you don't want to load anything heavy on the back without some support. Actually you can load/unload a trailer off the tow vehicle while using those braces. Even with a heavy bike on the trailer. Screw the coupler off the ball, and then drop it back down once the vehicle is removed. Place the braces... one on each side.. under the rear cross member, and crank the tongue back up until the rear is supported. Solid as a rock. Load..unload without a worry...

You don't even need to do that. As long as the pic's posted to the web somewhere just right click copy and paste to your post. You can do this to any pic. http://www.cast-aways.com/images/OldCodger.jpg

Been there and done the slide the first time I ever tried. Thought about it a bit and now I keep the bike running and in 1st gear. When the front wheel stars to lose traction I feather the clutch to 'brake' with the rear wheel. And yep I ride them off. I just don't feel confortable balancing 850#'s from just one side.. Actually if I had been on asphalt it probably wouldn't have happened. Generally I unload out front, but this time the bike wasn't tied down any longer and didn't want to go thru the hassle of retieing.. Next time I'll tie....

So are the footings of the Golden Gate. As long as they stay wet they'll continue to cure...

Thanks for the OK... but Nope.. It never hit the ground. Besides I think that donation per drop thing was great when the site was a freebe to keep the SAF fund afloat. Geeze, I can't even remember what it was called back then?? Lord knows I've tossed a few bucks that directon in the past, but I now wonder where the donations go?? If it ends up in the SAF then by all means continue to do so if you choose. I don't have any guilty paigns....

Amazingly nothing other than the left eyebrow in one of the last pics.... I have extras..and my pride.. Didn't bend the guard, and when I fired up the engine the dirt disappeared... Also found that the tilt switch works great, although I wouldn't suggest anyone else testing theirs this way.....

Now I've put a bike on a trailer and taken one off just a few times. Never had a problem.... until last week. I needed the trailer to pull another duty, so the '07 had to go find some other place to hang. Putting it on wasn't a problem in L.A., but unloading it in the back yard proved to be a little hairy. Yes there are pics. The '07..all 850# of it almost landed in my lap. My life did flash before my eyes. It could have been fatal. It'll take too long to explain what happened except to say the left exhaust tip dug into the lawn on the way down the ramp, and I ended up flat on my a$$ on the ground looking straight up at the bike. Luckily it didn't go all the way over. Another 6" farther back, and it would have... Whew!!

According to this mornings news an over height truck struck a few girders in the overhead structure, and down she came. I would have thought a few bent beams wouldn't have brought it down??? In the pics you can see a couple of bent beams above the slow lane. Anyway it didn't take much.... Scarry.... Musta caused the 5.7 earthquake we had down here last night...

Need some electrical input
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks everyone for the input. Looks like I'll start by checking all the turn signals for corrosion, and burned out bulbs. And as long as I'm going there, where's a good place to pick up some LED replacements for the 1156's that... I assume... are in there now?? Also will I need to do anything to compensate for the lower power LEDs. I'll also recheck the battery as the bike was not running at the time I ran into the dim/rabbit problem. Need to fire it up this time.....make sure I'm getting the right voltage out of the stator/rectifyer.. -
The new2me '07 has a glitch. Not a ghost... I hate those... but a positive glitch. It has to do with the turn signals. I just got around to checking them out and the right side works just fine, but.... when blinking the whole electrical system dims a bit. The left side runs like a jackrabbit and the system pulses a bunch. This is while the motor was not running The bike did have an extra power plug, besides the one in the fairing, mounted up by the audio controls which I removed, and an extra LED running light strip mounted under the trunk which I left were it was. I'd almost think it was all related to a weak battery, but it checks out OK. Any ideas what it might be?? Thought I'd check here for ideas before tearing into everything...

I used to have a Fieldshear mesh jacket. Someone else is wearing it now... was in the trailer when it was stolen. Anyway I dehydrated like crazy riding in 100+ temps on the way back from Colorado in '07. I decided to keep the textile jacket on when coming back from Wyoming two years ago, and was very comfortable. It does have vents in the arms and back...kinda flow through..., but nothing like the flow through the mesh. I think with the jacket mesh and pants it might be overkill....

Not DHL, but this morning a warning pop-up screen, that looked like it came from Micro-Soft appreared, and wanted me to start running a removal program for 3 listed viruses. I almost clicked on the link, but thought better of it. When I moved the curser over the link the address had nothing to do with MS. Whew!! Running Deep Esentials Scan as I'm typing this. So there's another one to lok out for....
