  1. I ran into the same problem, and being the lazy sort I just said the heck with it and ordered an OEM... I rapped on it also with no luck. If this one fails I'll get real serious and install the 42S....
  2. I had to do the weld job on both sides of the '91. It worked fine using the broken pieces that were still attached to the grab rails. Just remember to spray the heck out of the weld with a clear coat to prevent rusting. Never could come up with a reasonable explanation as to why it happened. The trunk was in perfect condition, but it must have taken a heck of a shot to bust those tabs off.
  3. I ran into that with my '83, added some water wetter to the coolant, and it did bring the temps down a couple of needle widths on those extreemly hot days. You might also check to see if your coolant drain valve is turned off as it by-passes the thermostat and the coolant will circulate too fast and not allow the engine heat to transfer as efficiently.
  4. It can only help. To what degree, on a trike, I don't know. I can imagine that it should make the front end feel more solid for the same reason as a bi-ped.... when stopping or hitting a pot hole. On the curves probably not so much as trike forks don't compress like a 2 wheeler when layed over.
  5. The pegs and a set of Baker Wings should cool you off a bit. By taking off the right side cover you can get a side view of the overflow bottle. Level might be low...
  6. Nah.... I do that on prupose. Brings out the comedian in all of us......
  7. Both nuts are the same size. A PO might have replaced one side with a 1/4x20SAE. OEM are 6mm... And besides redoing the seat, Rick Buttler make thumb nuts for the seat, and bolts to replace those in the saddles with no wrench easy-offs.
  8. LOL... It looks like I've been saved by the big kahuna... Only one post..
  9. Now what the frig is going on. I just posted a fork brace reminder in the 1stGen forum. Then I clicked on the 'new posts' to browse the mail. Ok, the post doesn't pop up. So I figure I had a brain fart and didn't hit the post button. So I go ahead and conjer up another post, and make sure I post it. Go to 'new posts', and again no post. So then I go to the forum, and there they both are. So I think Oh Well I'll just delete one of the posts. So I hit edit, and it won't let me delete my own post.... Have I been blackballed or something??? Let me know when this all gets straightened out.. Now I really wish the good ol' days were back....
  10. Just a short note to let those 1stGen'rs who haven't already installed the brace, I have them available. It makes the front forks react in unison. Reduces wandering when stopping, carving a curve, or hitting a pothole. Best performance bang for the buck besides the the Progresives you can do for better handling of your bike. PM me if you're interested.
  11. Just a quick note to let those of you that haven't installed a fork brace on your 1stGen, I have then available. Keeps the forks working in unison. No more wandering coming to a stop, carving a curve, or hitting a pot hole. Best performance bang for the buck you can do to you bike... The ad is in the classifieds under 1stGen parts.
  12. Dang!! Thanks for the reminder Goose. I have read it in the past, and it's been very helpfull. Getting old is a PITA.... I did click on the link for O'Riley and it didn't get me to where I wanted to go, but off the hotlink I pulled CO262. I bet that's the part number. Yes??? And I just tried the link again and it now works... Go Figure....
  13. Thanks for the advice Jeff. But.... I think the FA123 is an EBC brake pad number??? Napa stores are getting fairly rare around here, but maybe Auto Zone or O'Riley's might have a comparison chart...
  14. And sometimes if the knurled sleeve part hasn't been moved lately it will take some effort to get it unstuck..... but it eventually will. All Y antennas fold down, from the '83 to present. The first gen's sleeve, as well as the first couple of years of the 2Gen, will unscrew and lift, and the later 2nd's just lift.
  15. Does anyone have the aftermarket part number for one similar for an RSVenture?? Or do I need to pull this one out and start opening up boxes at Auto Zone...
  16. When I first bought my '83VR it had the 'clunk'... After changing to Progressives, adding a fork brace, and rebearing the front axle it disappeared...
  17. Just looking at the weather reports, and if you're going in the next couple of weeks go find an AC unit and hug it. Supposed to be record breaking temps in the south west in the next few weeks. 129degs in Death Valley....
  18. I'm sure there's just a few folks that have removed them to have a 'cleaner' looking tank. Maybe one will pop up here with a set....
  19. I think he's refering to the dash panel that holds the CLASS, with the CB in the gimbled lid. They still might be available from Y?? I'd at least check with them first. If not it's going to be a long look to find one in 'good' condition, but if he does find one, be prepared as they demand a healthy price tag....
  20. OK, In my last post I ditto'd a few of the negative posts, but after doing Don's suggested clean up it's business as usual.... Unless he's changed it back already?? I can see where it'll need to be done once in a while, but I can live with that... When I first logged on with the 'new' change in effect I had a ton of pages of updated threads listed. Scary!! At least now it's managable. It you haven't done this, I'd suggest doing it now, and quit yer *****en....
  21. Take a helo ride over the canyon. Awesome....
  22. DITTO.... They did this on another board I read occasionally and didn't like it at all. They finally went back to the old way...
  23. That is cool. To get those pieces to all rotate at the same speed must be a PITA... Love to see how he does it....
  24. When I did mine I finally found something that would work. I guess it was a 1-1/16".... I'm not completely sure but there may be a flat 27mm in the tool kit???
  25. Hey I feel for ya. Dan. Tom Hanks didn't even have the courtesy to offer to buy me out of www.cast-aways.com Youda thunk they would have at least ponyed up $50g's or so....
