  1. I don't think he's been back yet. Most newbe's haven't set up their user CP so they don't get any notices etc...
  2. I just use a large kitchen trash bag....
  3. If you have a one piece aftermarket seat your going to have to stick with the makers backrest set up, ala Corbin... For the stock two piece seats there are a number of rests that will work. Most of their brackets attach using the same two cap screws that hold the passenger seat on. I have seen a few that call for some minor drilling to mount the bracket. BTW, I do have a nice studded Utopia listed in the classies....
  4. So Bill... with a handle like yours you've gotta be a photographer, or a collector??? Am I close???.......
  5. A few years back I posted a thread asking if anyone had cooked on their bike while traveling. My folks used to in the Model A, when we traveled back and forth betwen New York and California. On that note, this morning I receive THIS and thought it was interesting. The heck with the dogs. Pot Roast, Taters, and Gravy. Yum!!
  6. Thanks Earl.... I just might give Metal Rescue a try. When removing 'patina' off brass boat parts we use half and half, white vineger and water. Since it's all oxydation, I wonder what it'd do to rusted steel??? It's only $3.50/gal... I did some poking around and found this on MR's website. Hope this works...
  7. This is all good to know. I thought Avon Venons ere the only ones that had a side wall MAX of 50psi. Basically to get rid of side wall flex and reduce cracking problems. Now I find the Metzlers also have a high psi. Probably for the same reason. Side wall flexing will cause heat build up and cap seperation and throw chucks. Keep 'm stiff and it should no longer be a problem. My '07 came with fairly new Metzlers, and from all the horror stories that have been floating around, I had planned on getting it re-shod with E3's before the next long trip. Now I think I'll just make sure the pressures are up to max and go for it. I know others have said they keep there's slightly lower, but I'm not sure why?? The difference between a 300# rider and 150# rider is insignificant when considering the weight of the entire bike with goodies stashed everwhere, plus fuel and oil. If they are looking for a more comfortable ride, you do that with suspension.....
  8. That's just one that I thought was a great example of a '92VR so I saved the pics. I agree it is a clean one.... I've owned some pretty nice ones in the past, and I still have a few VR's in Waiting.... Your original post did get me to thinking. I had a lot of trouble finding a pic to post. So I've been going back and relabeling all those files that don't have what they cover in the file name.... i.e. BackRest is now 1stGenBackRest, and sorts along with all the rest of the 1stGen stuff. Now I at least have a place to start looking....
  9. Maybe this pic will help. Also the keeper of the pics is Dingy. He seems to have one of everything. What I am in awe of is his filing system to locate them so quickly.....
  10. I agree. I did find another tank off a '99, in mint condition, on eBay. Made three offers on it and was rejected on all three. I hate being rejected... They want $359 for it. I offered $200..$225...$250... Three offers are all you get with eBay. So I contacted them and they countered at $300. I had to stick to the $250. There are 2 or 3 other '99 tanks for around $200 listed. I also found a place down in SoCal that does tanks. http://www.gastanklining.com/index.html My stock tank is very clean cosmetically so maybe for $125...$150 I could have it lined and I'd never have to worry about rust again.
  11. Just the tank Bob. While I was down and out for the last year and a half I let the '99 sit without any fuel in the tank because I had all good intentioins of fiddling with a few things when I got back from Cody. But I didn't. So the tank rusted up. Not to bad I think?? A cloth down the fill walls wiped them clean, but it does look heavier on the bridge. Anyway I thought that if the tank was more a shade of silver it would come close to matching the 2-tone silver i have now. From all the feedback it looks like I'd better stay away from this one. I didn't want to have to paint. I could have lived with a silver/black.
  12. Anyone here have one of the '09's in Seashell/Raven. My question is does the Seashell look like it's a shade of silver??? I'm about ready to pop for one, but it has to be silver looking...... It's on eBay by a local to me seller, and from what I've read about him in the feedback file he's not all that communicative..... I've tried 3 times, and only received one response.... http://i.ebayimg.com/t/09-YAMAHA-XV1300-ROYAL-STAR-VENTURE-GAS-TANK-OEM-/20/!B08U2fwB2k~$(KGrHqIOKjwE)oGHglZJBMccmDWON!~~_12.JPG
  13. It's been a while since I've messed with them, but I think they are signal and emergency only, and not constant running lights.
  14. Or.... a lot of folks just push the set button twice. I used to keep pushing the set til it finally kicked in.... then someone gave me the secret.
  15. When out in the boonies they've got you by the nads. When my Deka died in Thermopolis Wy across the street from a Southern Auto store, the only thing they had was a wet cell batt. $120 bucks out the door... and that was with a senior discount. Used it one day and then put the recharged AGM back in the bike. Deka AGM's are $89.00 on my doorstep...
  16. Pull the seat off. The neck of the overflow bottle is right in front of the battery next to the filter. You'll probably see evidence of some leaking around the stopper....
  17. To all those who have kicked the habit. Quiting is easy...it's not starting again that's hard..... 24 years ago I used to quit 60 times a day. Not starting again was really tough... So my hat is off to all who have...not started again...
  18. Sorry about that. I guess those coils do stretch out a bunch. Didn't look like it from the pic.http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71YR-h-vpLS._SL1500_.jpg
  19. Are you sure your multi-meter isn't on the fritz. .1 vdc is ridiculous. I put out .5 vdc by just grabbing the ends of the probes.... It's also hard to believe that after only two years the batt is dead. I've had them sit for over a year and they only take a short time to top off. I think the specs call for a 10% loss over a year. If it's actually that low then it's probably a gonner....but stick a maintainer on it for a couple of months and then hit it with a smart charger.... You never know.....???
  20. That's not a good thing. Never had that happen before.... In the past I'd post and it would show up in the forum. Then if I hit New Posts it would appear at close to the top of the search. I understand that if I had opened it it wouldn't appear, but I'm not opening it. Anyway I'll vote to go back to the old way just in case my poll vote doesn't make it....
  21. Ya'll can send any rain you don't want out west. Went to pick up my daughter from a sleep over and the very accurate temp guage in the rear view read 111degs. Yikes!!!
  22. I have an APP on my phone that will show weather fronts moving across your specific area call RAINDAR. I also have an APP fron the Weather Channel that gives a slew of weather info. Using both together you can pretty much now what the day holds for you.
  23. It probably does what it was designed to do, but it sits on top of the battery. Do you plan on removing the seat every day to check condition??? There is a Showchrome accessory that might work better for you. and gives a lot more info on battery condition. And it ain't going to break the bank.... http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/5-in-1-digital-volt-meter/part/BBP-4-239
