  1. None what so ever when it comes to tire cupping. Obviously the ride sucks.....
  2. During the rebuild I just polished out the tips of my Bubs, and shot them with a clear coat. They are aluminum and probably the main reason the chrome flakes off. Some of the guys paint them black which looks kinda cool too.
  3. Because balancing has nothing to do with cupping. It's low tire pressure and sidewall flex that causes the scrubbing/cupping. Nothing else....
  4. Does anyone know the screw size holding the pitcock and sender unit to the tank?? I'm just lazy and thought I'd ask before pulling the old tank off the bike. Thought I'd go with hex head cap screws instead of philips. The OEM tank is rusted internally... my bad...so I picked up another mint tank off eBay to replace it...'cause I'm lazy.. I'll deal with striping the OEM later... Going to give Metal Rescue a try.
  5. So what's happened to all the whining about the clutch whine? I haven't seen anyone complaining lately. Has the problem disappeared??....or have we all gone deef....???
  6. My '07 is running a set of Road Kings, and the '99 has a set of rebuilt Bubbs. The RK's are a medium increase over stock, and the Bubbs are +30% over the RK's. Neither set 'barks' when launching off the line.... I picked up a Decibel meter in an auction a while back. One of these days I'm going to have to do some testing.....
  7. I just got thru watching this video on youtube and they did drop the 'friction modifiers' term during the presentation. I wonder if I should just stick with Rotella T??? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEaf5ES6Xmg]Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic product video - YouTube[/ame]
  8. Is that where you stick a flashlight in your mouth and your pants glow????
  9. I liked the linked on the 1stGens also. I only use the fronts on the 2ndGens after reading all about brake lock ups by barely touching the rear pedal....no guts!! I will be adding R1 or R6 calipers when I get around to it, but so far no complaints....
  10. AVON Venom's or Dunlop E3's, or Michelin Comanders??
  11. Every time I see an actractive young lady on TV she always seems to be Canadian. There must be something in the water......
  12. Whew!!! That's a bunch of testing to find why it's not charging. Being a lazy sort, and since late model rectifiers are fairly cheap on eBay, I'd start with R&Ring it first, and checking the plugs while your at it. If it doesn't take care of the problem it's the stator. BTW if you'd have picked up an AGM battery you would have probably made it back to the barn. I ran 2.5 days from Sacramento Ca to Thermopolis Wy pulling a trailer with a DEKA before killng it. The wet cell I bought to get me to Cody left me stranded the next day outside of Cody on the way back from a day ride without the trailer..... It turned out to be the rectifier showing volts but not putting out amps. Changed the Rec and no more problems.
  13. Couldn't vote... don't own a 1/2 helmet. However, I do wear Nolan Modulars with N-Comms. They do make systems for 3/4's and 1/2's. It's the only bluetooth system I could find at the time that worked with the bike audio system plus...C/B.... and the GPS/Cell.
  14. Here's my guess... You have two problems. Since the brake pedal has always felt 'mushy' you've probably never gotten all the air out of the lines, and since they are due for a bleeding you have had some of the fluid crystalize, and a piece is blocking the expansion hole in the master. When the fluid heats up while braking it expands and if it has no place to go it will start to apply pressure to the caliper pads. Because of the air it never really locks the rear brake up, but it gradually starts to feel a lot better. Take a long down grade using lots of brakes and I guarantee you will eventually lock the rear brake up. Time to bleed and clean out the expansion hole. If you don't have Speed Bleeders, you need to get them.
  15. While poking around on McMaster-Carr looking at fittings to replumb with a 42S fuel pump, I ran across right angle fuel line connectors in plastic and brass in 5/16". It seems to me it would be easier to stash one in the trunk and if needed to by-pass the OEM pump to just take the lines off and put them on the 'L'. Rather than messing around with flexible fuel line trying to keep it from kinking......
  16. Oh go ahead.....
  17. Seven is a good number... Unless I include my original '83 which is in for a fuse box repair....but I don't own it anymore....
  18. And the expansion hole is under the plastic elbow on the side of the master cylinder. It's held in by a philips screw, and an 'o' ring. So it'll resist a bit before coming out. In the bottom of the hole there are two smaller holes. One looks like someone started to drill and then changed their mind. At the bottom of that hole is a micro hole that lets expanded DOT 3 back into the reserve. It can be cleaned out using one of those wire ties with the cover stripped off. Once you get it clean bleed the rear brake. If you don't have them get a set of 4 ea. 8125L Speed Bleeders. Worth every penny. You should be good to go. I had the same problem with my '83 when I first bought it. I fought that SOB for the better part of a month, even after rebuilding everything, until... I discovered the expansion hole and put two and two together and reasoned what it was for.
  19. Hey I represent that remark After two years, I finally got back on a bike. Saturday morning I rode around for about 3 hours on 7 of 9. It felt great. It's been too long.... I even got the phone numbers of two ladies... Condor's back......
  20. While we were on an Alaska cruise, I dropped into the local Harley dealer in Ketchikan. Wall to wall T-Shirts. Not a bike in the joint. Because they did have T's up 6X, I bought one in 4X.... Now I gotta get the matching bike.??.. On another occasion, on one of the Cody rides, the group was taking a potty break, and I remember 2 couples riding up on their Harleys, and they looked like they had just steped out of the center spread of a Harley clothing catalog. The only drawback was I forgot to take a picture.
  21. I went to KBB to check pricing. Trade in value... the new retail ....is $10,333. Old retail is $13,000 and change range. So an $8,500 offer isn't all that low. Yes it's the one with the fixed fairing and duel headlights. It also had a few extras. Reinharts, and the audio system, but no passenger back rest. The engine is a '96' cubic inch. Since I don't frequent the local Harley dealer and drool, this is the first time I've had the opportunity to look at one close up. I did find some picky issues in the fit and finish that I wouldn't have expected with a Harley 'quality' build, but over all it's 'Harley' looking.... I really don't think the offer will go thru, but you never can tell... Here's a Road Glide on CL locally... http://sacramento.craigslist.org/mcy/3914087616.html
  22. My neighbor down the street was a Highway Patrolman, and he passed away suddenly about 4 weeks ago of a heart attack. He was a Motor CHP, and did ride his patrol bike home for lunch on occassion. He also owned a 2007 Road Glide with 6500 miles on the odo, so he didn't ride it much. He and his wife were seperated, and now the bike is up for sale and being stored in another neighbors garage across the street until it finds a new owner. So the neighbors and I were talking and they asked me what did I think the value of the bike was?? I said about 12, and then told him to relay an offer of $8500 to the wife. She might get more than that but it'll get rid of the real low ballers. Mark felt she was going to let it go cheap just to get rid of it. So we'll see.... It's like new..
  23. I'm going to replace the rear and front tire on the '07. Basically because they are Metzlers, and the rear tire is getting thin. I haven't been on a bike for over two years because of health issue's, but planed on meeting up with a friend for lunch on Friday and taking the '07, but had to reschedule. Went to top off the tire presures since the bike had been sitting for a while before I bought her last month. The front looked almost new, but when I got down there and took a look at the rear the tread was getting very thin. Not a big confidence builder with a Metzler. I did go for a short ride this morning...yea!!.., and the bike didn't handle well. Squirley and jumping around. So just ordered two E3's from Jake Wilson in Utah. The '99 has 3's and it handles great. All the way to Cody and back in '11... 4,000miles total and they look new. Handling was great in the twisties.
  24. Could you have the inlet and outlet bibs on the fuel pump reversed???
  25. I'm assuming that the 'squeeze' wasn't a bunch so the bearings should be just fine. However if it was an impact there is a possibility of bending the forks, but this still wouldn't cause the any vibration. Your steering could get dicey, but not cause vibs. Take your hand and run it along the edge of the front and back tire. You should feel 'cups'. This is what causes a vibration when taking any type of turn and the bike lays over.
