  1. That's the price I was thinking they were worth..... Load all those CD's up on a multi-gig ipod. Save the trunk space for beer....
  2. Dang!! If I didn't have so many todo's this morning I'da taken you guys to breakfast. I like the old school touring pic, and the mods to the VR. If you ever come back thru this area PM me first. I'm in Carmichael, just outside of Sac. Jack
  3. Has anyone bought the Clairion CD player for their bike lately, and do you still use it?? I have seen these CD players listed on eBay for several years and they are usually listed in the $225 to $250 range, and it appears they never get a sniff, but the listing price never seems to go down.... Are there that many dealers out there, taking into consideration the past sales history, that think they are still worth anything?? With the availability of MP3 players, and the ability to store more tunes than you can count, why would anybody even think about spending that kind of money for something that is so limited... and takes up trunk space to boot??? :stirthepot:
  4. How about taking a pic of the CB and posting it.... Because the CB's I have don't have that blue connector plug. The power comes off the Amp, and if I remember correctly the '83 amp doesn't have a plugin for a CB. And the antenna pigtail goes into the splitter. Also the antena itself needs to be charged out for a center loaded model. The am/fm '83 antenna won't work. There's a lot of things that need to be done to add an OEM CB. Probably the reason that it's still sitting in a box....
  5. JR?? What the......???? http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg
  6. OK, It looks like you have an OEM CB out of Canada. I'm not sure about bikes that were imported into our next door neighbor... Is your speedometer in Kilometers?? Or did you or a previous owner pick the CB up and are installing it... ???
  7. I'd just replace it. They're not all the much used. Probably the cost of shipping?? I don't think you can ever straighten the jacket, and the kink will eventually start to wear on the cable. Just got to thinking.... Brian might have one one that wrecked bike of his???
  8. Yeah, It's all Dan's fault......
  9. There are several electrical contact cleaner sprays available. CRC makes one called QD Electronic Cleaner. I'd give that a try before removing the gear indicator. It's a PITA getting back in there to mess with it. Spray from a distance...although you're still going to have to remove the middle gear cover....
  10. Since you have an '83standard can we assume that you don't have an OEM CB but an aftermarket. Qual/Comm is one that was made for the early Venture. So we have no idea what kind of CB you do have, and what blue wire you're refering to??? Could you give us a better idea.
  11. I tried to figure it out this morning.... To early...not enough coffee!! :confused07:
  12. OK, I guess I guess I'll just let it all hang out......
  13. The back rest came in a set with the seat, and was made by Corbin and marketed thru VentureLine. Ergo the Star Logos. I just picked up a set out here in Ca. Mounted the seat but kept the OEM pillow top on for now... I suspect that this was quite common and the reason the back rests can be found solo. And Corbin no longer offers the back rest... Man this is an old post.... Make note.... Pay more attention to the dates....
  14. Now wait a minute... With all due respect Harley builds a great bike.. The new EVO motor just keeps eating up the miles. MOF 98% of all Harleys are still on the road..... The other 2% made it home.... Sorry I couldn't help myself.....
  15. I'm installing a Hopnel bib on my RSV tank and the velcro tape at the front that rolls?? under the edge of the tank is too long...I think?? Anyway getting the front of the leather, that has the hook portion to roll under is a pita. The cut outs are in the right place for the igintion cover to fit and the back end fits with the plastic plugs in the right place, but the front overhangs the edge of the tank by about an inch and there's no way it's plyable enough to rolled under and stay stuck to the velcro tape. It's a pretty popular style Hopnel bib, but it's an older used bib with the basket weave in the center and matches my trunk bib. So my question is has any of you run into this problem and how did you handle it?? I'm thinking that triming the overhang off except for a small tag of velcro on the bib and putting the velcro tape on the top of the tank might be a solution??? Any other ideas??
  16. That's thinking out of the box.... Great idea. I checked on having my trailer lid painted to match by a custom painter and it got real pricey...real quick. Figured I'd stick with the all black. Now I gotta start scheming again. See what you started..... The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is a perfect color match???
  17. I KNOW CHICKEN STRIPS!!!!! They sell 'm at KFC....
  18. I'm going to the E3's for the '07, and it also has a very new Metzler front tire. It still has the little 'whacha-ma-callits' on it, and it's coming off. Anyone want a low mile Metzler?? BTW I can't remember any other brands of tires having the WMC's?? It get's me to wondering if Metzlers method of construction is different for all the other MC tires, and that is what's leading to the chunks and caps being thrown??? Just a wild stab...
  19. I was thinking about going this direction in the future, but that click-a-d-click was sort of reassuring that the thing was working. I'd hate like hell to think it was working and have the bike die on me and trying to diagnose a fuel pump problem without having to get into the side cover....
  20. Sounds like a weiner to me.... Love Hot Dogs with my secret sauce...
  21. In a situation like that mine wouldn't be long enough either... Don't stall.... The MKI shifter is a plug and play on a MKII. I guess it wouldn't make any difference according to Prairiehammer below, but I just liked that I could move the position to make it more comfortable. So I'm not going to run out and do a comparison, I'll take PH's word on it. On TV Huh??
  22. My ... Depending on what size boot your wear will make or break the floorboard idea. There is about a 9" span between the front and rear peg. If you wear a bigger boot is ain't gonna work. Also your problem of bent knees isn't going to be solved. I hated the set up on my '93. Took the thing off and sold it. One thing that will give you a bit more adjustability is to replace the shiftmechanismm with one off a 83-85 model. Unlike the MKII assembly they can actually moved around a bit. The best thing you can do is add highway pegs with an off set mount that can be moved even farther out front. That way you can even rest your arch or the back of the heel out front on long rides. They make a big difference. Another trick is to adjust the shift peg position so your toe points down a bit more instead of having to lift your toe to shift. I did all these things to the '83 and 600+mile days were very comfortable on old basketball knees.
  23. Hi Curtis, Prayers sent brother. I go back in for my 1st annual in Oct. The 6 month looked good and fortunately in my case all the lymph nodes around the tumor were negative. But even then, like everyone who's gone thru this, there's that little nagging thought lurking in the back of our minds.... 90% is a good prognosis...
  24. What you need to do is go rent a trailer and ride to the International in AC comfort. I know you're a tough guy, but sometimes ya gotta know when to fold 'm.....
