  1. Some good sugestions here... You don't want to snap the bleeder off...it'll mess up your whole day. Constant torque will generally do the damage. Short quick pops will generally get the threads to break loose. Use a soldering iron the get the surrounding metal to heat up without torching the whole bike. Good luck.....
  2. New late model Ventures are all over the place on Craigslist. Well.... I can't speak for other areas, but there are 3 or 4 NOS listed in Sacramento and San Francisco. I think you might have to cut the price even more to get it to move. Yamaha didn't do the dealers any favor by keeping the model just about identical for over 14 years, and you can find quite a few low mile examples available on the used market. Some even have 1-3 years left on the warantee.... I think loosing $300 is going to be nothing before the shelves clear. Good Luck...
  3. Man I wish all youse guys were around when I first tackled the salve on my first '83. Lemme just say I do know how to remove the clutch slave, and it doesn't just easily come out after moving the wires to the side. I think you're leading the newbe's astray by making them think it's an easy out. There's actually a trick to getting it out of there, and unless you luck into it...like I did... you might as well pack a lunch, because you're going to be there a while. My
  4. Have ya'll noticed since most of the posters are at the International, the posting numbers have dropped.... but the quality has gone up....
  5. Turn it on and see what happens....
  6. International??? What International????? :confused07::confused07:
  7. I just ordered a set of E3's from Jake Wilson and dropped them off at my local Y dealer for install next Saturday. Didn't take them out of the wrap, and now you've got me thinkin'... Keep us posted on what Dunlop sez about the problem....
  8. ACE hardware has hex buttons. They're chrome but you can shoot them black...
  9. I just ran acrossed this on the RIVCO website. The center stand is now available again for a limited time. I know the stand is big bucks, but it is a class act. I have one on the '99 and love it. I emagine Rivco is doing this to see if there is enough interest to reconsider keeping the stand in the line, and they might have been premature in dropping it. So anyone who's been looking, and has the cash, here ya go... Also what needs mentioning is "CALL FOR DETAILS 1-888-801-8222 / 1-262-763-8222. Do not order online. " OK, I just called Rivco for the details, and they are taking names of those who are interested in picking one up. So far the list is in the teens, and once they get 20 they will call to verify continued interest. This info is actually not new as I remember another member posting about this a while back, but it does help to bring it up again. I'm thinking about picking up another one for Seven so added my name.
  10. Here's a great tire wear article written in great detail. Scroll down to the cupping section and do some reading. Actually the whole thing is really worth looking at to understand tire wear and what causes it. http://www.rattlebars.com/tirewear/index.html
  11. We're going to have to disagree on this issue Rick. Cupping is caused by sidewall flex due to low tire pressure. Suspension can cause a lot of handling problems, but tire cupping isn't one of them.
  12. Always keep the psi at the max cold posted on the tire just to be sure.
  13. I just replaced the fuel pump on my '07 and what a difference... And there's no doubt that it's working. Tock..tock..tock. Now the '99 pump on the other hand works, but is more like a weak tick..tick..tick. I'm in the proccess of replacing the tank and cleaning out the fuel system due to owner FUBAR and might have to replace the pump as well. Went with OEM on the '07 , but will probably go with the 42S if needed on the '99...
  14. Back in the day I used to run to the reserve when we didn't have fuel guages, but now with all the gizmotry, I run by the odo. 150 miles = 2 hours = potty break... I just replaced the pitcock in the '99 with a new one, and I don't see how the stand pipe could come out unless it was bad from the factory and the previous owner did the 150 mile dance and never noticed??
  15. This board has a ton of info in the tech section. The link is in the left hand menu. Here's a link to the 2ndGen parts manual. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2477
  16. The only way you can get tire cupping is to run the tires underinflated...
  17. If it's motor oil it could be coming from the middle gear seal and runing down the drive shaft housing, or.... from the seal in the final if it's gear lube....
  18. 'Going South' is an old expression used for something that starts to deteriorate. Of course this is way before your time....
  19. Another possibility would be to mount some highway pegs on the saddle bag guards at the right height. Kuryakyn makes some that are wider and sorta look like pads. They could fold up when not in use and hey it's more bling....
  20. It's amazing how a thread can go south so quickly......
  21. Geeze... maybe he was.... :confused07:
  22. I bought a couple of 10" dark windshields from Bike Bandit 3 or 4 months ago. They had them on sale for $50 bucks each with free shipping over $100. So I bought two. One for the '07 and one for the '99. Ran 07 at freeway speeds to 70+mph and it worked great...
  23. Here's a couple of pics I saved of another members brackets on a MKII. Maybe these will help.
  24. Add a little Sea Foam to the oil. It should clean right up. My first '83 was pretty grungy, and I had to use a flashlight to get a dim view of the level. After changing the oil a few times with quality oil, the glass cleared up.... I might add that I change oil twice a year rather than trying to see how many miles I can get out of it. 10-30/winter, 20-50summer.
