I tend to agree with you Dan, and have never supported any member's pet charity. However, if it's a member in trouble financially I'm right there... That way I know it going to a good cause 100%....

No.... DIY. They make rattle can clears made for metals. They also make paint remover that will not harm fiberglass, so the aluminum should be safe. Remove the front fender, cover the tire, and tape the brake lines. Shoot 'm Dano.

That's one I'm not familiar with. The Lincoln "Coon Creek Trap and Skeet Club" is owned by an old friend of mine. MOF I got him into trap shooting back in the early 70's. From the pic's background it looked a lot like George's place. On the 404's wearing out. They've never been a high miler, and I think it's more the load on that old '83, not the heat that ate them up. And you were in Utah. Jake Wilson's up in S.L.C. has the Dunlop E3's for a little less then what you paid for the 404 with free shipping. I rode one to Cody and back and it doesn't even show wear, and I load the bike and trailer up pretty good. Have a good trip back home...

What a great read!! When you went trap shooting, was it up in Lincoln or locally around Sac??

It's not like the good ol' days anymore, there are so many riders around town now, if I waved at all of them I wouldn't have time to shift... But we're working on thinning the herd... every morning there's at least one is involved in an accident in a traffic commute report .. I will give 'm the cool 2 fingered low wave when I'm out on the road. I don't care what they're riding they generally will return the greeting.....

You can strip them, clean the aluminum up, and then reshoot them with a clear coat...

Tanks guys..... I'm glad I'm not alone, and that those dirty Y's engineers have pulled another one. I think I'll poke around some to see if I can find some foam, and if that fails I'll go the 'o' ring route like Larry suggested....
-
I can't find one... On the 2ndGen's the plenum (airbox) sides are joined together by a center 'T' ... for lack of a technical name..., and the T has a foam air seal between each side connection. I've looked but can't find anything in the parts manual. Anyone have a different source?? Or has anyone used a piece of aftermarket foam and made their own??. I removed the '99's plenum to get to the linkage and the foam had really deteriorated due to oil contamination.

About 5 years ago I had need to ship a rifle for service from California to Remington in N.Y. . I didn't need an FFL to ship the gun as long as I was shipping to an FFL. I did have to declare the package was a firearm to UPS, but the package did not have to be marked as such. Same thing for the return shipping. Remington shipped the gun directly to my front door. I guess because the gun was legally DOJ registered to me it was legal to ship and receive without an FFL dealer doing it. So maybe since you have residence in both states you can legally ship to yourself?? Never thought of it that way??? I think I'd call the ATF and ask just to make sure. I had to call them once before and they were very helpful. I didn't have to ID myself....

Dave got back to me, and he just got the yips and pulled the trigger to quick. I refunded the $5 bucks. But... if anyone wants to send me $5 bucks because you dropped the scoot I'm not going to object....

Change Lightbulb..Rewire House

I used Plasti-Dip on a manafold off a 1stGen once and it worked pretty good. Couldn't even see the cracks after it dried. I did pick up a case of that 'TV screen' stuff at a boat swap a year ago for just about nothing. Now I gotta figure out what I did with it.... -

Yeah, that was really cool. Bought the rectifier from you a year earlier and then you made a Cody call to install it..... -
Here's a couple of pics showing where I'm at with the rusted tank right now, and things I've found along the way... The first is where I placed the fuel filter after getting old one out of the holder. It amazes me that Y placed something that needs to be serviced so damn hard to get to. They need a few new engineers. The second is what left after pulling the tank, fuel pump, filter, and then trying to deal with a sluggish throttle that won't return to idle. Open it up, and that's where it stays. When I first started I couldn't even get it open up. Carb cleaner and Deep Creep got it moving but it's still like molasses. The third is of the manafold on number 4 carb. Scarry huh?? I hope these things are build around a metal center sleave... I don't want to pull the carbs, but I may have to. I did just order a set of throttle lines off eBay. $15 bucks, so it's not a bank buster. And now we're in August and it's cold and over cast. Three weeks ago it was 114 in the shade...

Thanks Guys.... Now I just need to figure out what he sent me the $5 bucks for??? I sent him an Email... Need some resolve on this one. I have enough trouble sleeping at night as it is....

Strange thing happened this morning. I received a $5 paypal payment. Haven't got a clue as to why?? I might have forgotten due to being in an advanced age group.. The sender email handle looks to be someone who is a board member. MOF it does look familiar, but when I searched the membership I didn't get a hit... One way or the other I'm gonna have a beer...

The Venture West wouldn't be a national affair. Just something that west coasters could attend. However that said we wouldn't turn down any east coast masochist that would want to drop by and rub elbows. A 10 day RT is one of the reasons, besides that there ain't that many of us, you won't see many of us at an Eastern IR. It won't be anywhere near what we had in Cody, but more low keyed and still have fun. I really enjoyed the Ft Collins in '07. It was my first ever Rally, and it was about 1350 miles one way. If it's in Washington it's half that. Even SoUtah would be under 700 for me, but would make it a heck of a ride for those in the North West. So the aim is to find a place with good riding, a good lodging value, good eats, and fairly centrally located along the pacific coast. Anything in Colorado would have to be a National Rally... Like I said, stay tuned....

Those Arizonans really have a great comradely when it comes to other Harley riders. Why the last time I drove across AZ there must have been 5 or 6 meetings going on by the side of the road. Even saw one individual on his knees praying. Now that's what I call devotion....

Dang!! Wished Ida saved a bunch of those flyers. Big bucks on eBay......

It seems to me that Y had a problem with the steering head lower bearing race breaking loose, and not being able to adjust the play. This was a long time ago, and it might have only been the one incidence?? If I remember correctly the member could adjust the bearings and they would loosen up after riding a while. I'm not saying this is your problem, but it's one more thing to look at....

A group of us put Cody together both in '2009 and 2011, and LoneEagle and I have have been trading email about doing a 3 day Venture West somewhere up in Washington, or down in Southern Utah, seeing as how the International always seems to end up east of the Mississippi. Dave Harris has been talking up SoUtah for years now. The only problem would be the time of the year due to extreme heat the middle of the summer. So stay tuned. We'll start a new thread once some decisions are made...

Hey Bucko.... I'll have you know that Seven of Nine is now up and running great with new tenny's, and the ride's awesome... How're your bikes holding up?? Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black. Eh?? I gotta a good excuse.... what's yours?? :rotf:

Give it some time guys.... Now that Harley's taken hold...... Sex sells..... Back in the early 70's a company I worked for put out a dealer flyer featuring a very cute Cornell Co-ed wearing only a trap shooting vest. We got mega complaints about it from the southern bible belt dealers. All the rest of the US wanted her telephone number... :rotf:
