  1. One of two things. Your rectifier might be bad... not a hard fix, or your stator is bad.. worse case scenario.. I'd start with the rectifier...
  2. Yeah, I'm starting to have the same symptoms with my '07, but I think it's the kill switch. Rode it all over The Dalles in Oregon without a problem. So I took it for a ride Sunday morning since I got back, and it acted goofy. I never could remember which way to set the kill switch, but when it doesn't turn over I get real confused. I finally got it fired with the right happy combination and took off. I got up to the Blvd stop and bumped the kill just a tad and the bike died and wouldn't start. Flipped the kill on and off a few times and it finally turned over. The rest of the ride went OK, and any restarts were fine. So I'm going to spray the heck out of the inside of the control housing with contact cleaner and keep an eye on it. Or?? I've never had one go bad, but the ignition switch may be thinking about going bad. I did turn the key on and off when it quit on me Sunday AM. So maybe??
  3. Quite as a church mouse. 4000 miles and didn't know it was there until I'd see it while checking the rear view.... So now I'm curious. Why would a standard 1 7/8" fit tighter than the tilt ball would??? Same coupler...same size ball....???
  4. And I bet 99.9% of those slams are from individuals that have never even used one, have huge imaginations, and think they're engineers. Just like me until I actually tried one...
  5. Can't say much about E3's on a 1stGen, but I do have them on my '99 and '07. They do feel like they're low, but they ain't. I ran Avon Venoms on my '83 with Progressives, fork brace, and was amazed at the improved performance over the E2's. It was like riding on rails. The only problem was the side wall checking. It took 3 front tires before I got one that stayed together. Ergo I went to E3's when the time came on the 2ndGens....
  6. It might ,if the charging voltage is up around 13.4 vdc, but have you ever charged a 80cca battery at 50% discharge?? Pack a lunch....
  7. If you're getting gassing with the Sears 2 amp charger check the voltage when hooked up. Anything over 13.4+ will cause a battery to 'boil', and don't.... use it on an AGM or Gel battery. If it is putting out around 14.2/3 vdc and not dropping down to a lower voltage when the battery is fully charged, it's NFG....
  8. That's probably why so many trike builders bad mouth Hannigan. I say good for Hannigan. Get's rid of the shops that don't know what they're doing.
  9. Yup, me too..... Love it!! And I can pull any MC trailer and not have to worry about dropping the scoot. I did cut a turn too tight and hit a hard curb coming out of a rest stop in Nevada on the way to Cody. The left side of the trailer became airborne but nothing came of it. Bike never flinched and I didn't even slow down.... I also layed the bike on the crash bars at a gas pump...don't ask... and trailer never even hic-cupped... Yes it will cant to one side a bit but doesn't bother a thing when towing....
  10. That 1 amp charger is actually a maintainer. It doesn't charge, but will keep battery fully charged when it already is. Most only put out 12.9 vdc which is more of a float voltage. There are a few maintainer/chargers available that put out 2-4 amps that will bring a battery back, but slowly. Best way to tell what you have is take a volt reading off the anodes while the battery is connected. It should read 13.4vdc+/-. Also if that charger is showing only 12 volts it ain't doing a thing....
  11. I hate any gravel.....
  12. LOL... Yep found that one out.... Don't ask... It seems like there's a point of no return when making a turn, and it takes a little mussle to hold the line... I end up forcefully pushing and pulling on the tight curves... Hopefully the leveler will relieve that a bit... Plus a little more fine tuning.... All in all I'm starting to like the conversion, but like the website videos recommend... practice... practice... practice.
  13. Sounds like the lock isn't engaging all the way. How far do you have to push on the button before it unlocks?? Mine has to go all the way in before it unlatches. Another way is to climb into the saddle bag and watch while someone closes the lid... , or...coat the latch with something like a Marks-Alot or dark axle grease to see if it will leave a mark. Also like the above post, check the screws....
  14. Yep, I bet you leveled it out by doing it. Same thing when raising the rear..... I picked up a couple of sets of levelers from Rick Butler that I'll be installing. Hopefully with the same results....
  15. Yeah if I remember there were a couple of waitresses that were hitting on him.... Or was it the other way around...
  16. Need more info. Explain 'undone'..... Do you mean the lid comes unlatched???
  17. I don't really want to change the rake, just looking for a little improvement. The RSV comes from the factory 1" lower in the rear for that 'cruiser' look. However a lot of bikes sit level. Some members...especially those who are taller have raised the rear end up to level the bike out, and from what I've been reading it also improves the low speed handling and response. Figured it might help with the Voyager kit... on or off...?? MOF Voyager recommends not to use the rake kit that Hannigan sells as an option. Right now I can take out 2 bolts and the kit will detach and I can ride away on 2 wheels. That's one of the big selling features of the Voyager.
  18. One of the things I did notice is that the ground clearance is really low and the mount will scrape once in a while. Also the steering is OK when on the straightaway, and in mild turns, but any aggressive maneuvering, and it's a chore holding the bars where I want them. Now I'm curious.. IF I put a set of load levelers on that will raise the height about an inch, and as reported make low speed steering better, work?? Any opinions...
  19. My close friends know that I can't pass up a bargain.... So back in February I brought home a '04 RSMV in beautiful condition. Which I didn't need 'cause I already owned a '99 and '07. But it was a bargain.... I've been getting on in years and had been watching the local CL ads for, and at, trikes. Lo and behold up pops a local ad for a set of Voyager training wheels, with two hardware set ups ,for 2 grand. So I went and looked at it... It also was in very nice condition, and by the serial number turned out to be an '06. The owner said the lowest he would go would be $1500 with the one Venture kit. So I said I'd think on it and let him know. The next day I emailed him an offer of $1200 for the Voyager with the Venture kit. He replied... "No Thanks". So for the next month and a half I kept seeing it on CL. I finally email him again and mention the $1200 offer was still good. He emailed me back to come get it... Now my trailer is 57" wide inside, the fenders of the Voyager have a 58" spread. Dang!! So no problem I load it in sideways. Getting it in was a piece of cake. Getting it off was a different matter. A tree limb, two come-along's, and lots of rope finally got it moved. So now I have a really nice '04 Midnight, and equally as nice '06 Voyager Kit. Total dollars spent.. $4200. Yep that's $3 grand for the RSMV.... Called Easy Rider to see if he had anything to do as I could really use the help putting this thing together. 2 weeks later we're wrenching. We figured it looked simple enough so we bolted the Voyager on because we were so good at figuring things out. Finished up and went to take it for a test ride. This is where it gets funny...sorta.. I ease it down on the street from the front yard. A hairy experience since I kept trying to keep it from falling over. Started down the street and less than 2 houses down I'm almost in my neighbors front living room. It traumatized me. I sat there for 10 minutes before getting up enough nerve to very slowly head it back to the front lawn. That bike was evil!! I let it sit where I parked it for two days. Meanwhile looking at installation videos on the Voyager website, talking to the factory techs, and re-reading the installation manual (which is basically worthless). Two weeks later we're at it again. This time the right way. Tweeked and adjusted everything, and bolted 'er up. And then it sat. Mind you I'm still gun shy. This morning I figured it's now or never. So I roll the bike off the lawn once more and this time it wasn't so bad. Still tilted /\, but manageable. Started down the street and made it all the way to the end of the block , turned around, and actually got some speed on the way back. It's going to work. Tomorrow I may take it for a longer ride...
  20. Name them all..... And where was it taken....?? http://cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/IMGP2622%20(Medium).JPG
  21. Yeah, but what's his nick name.....????
  22. Didn't know the Pucster had taken that one... Cool... I got it saved. MOF I think that may be the only pic of me ridin'?? OK, I'm game.... WHO'S THIS??? http://cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/IMGP2552%20(Medium).JPG
  23. Larry, you might give thought to swapping the front forks for a set off an '86+ instead of rebuilding the OEMs. That way you can install a set of R1/R6 calipers and make a big improvement in the braking dept. I did it to my '83, along with a set of Progressives, and OMG!! what a difference.
