  1. I don't really want to change the rake, just looking for a little improvement. The RSV comes from the factory 1" lower in the rear for that 'cruiser' look. However a lot of bikes sit level. Some members...especially those who are taller have raised the rear end up to level the bike out, and from what I've been reading it also improves the low speed handling and response. Figured it might help with the Voyager kit... on or off...?? MOF Voyager recommends not to use the rake kit that Hannigan sells as an option. Right now I can take out 2 bolts and the kit will detach and I can ride away on 2 wheels. That's one of the big selling features of the Voyager.
  2. One of the things I did notice is that the ground clearance is really low and the mount will scrape once in a while. Also the steering is OK when on the straightaway, and in mild turns, but any aggressive maneuvering, and it's a chore holding the bars where I want them. Now I'm curious.. IF I put a set of load levelers on that will raise the height about an inch, and as reported make low speed steering better, work?? Any opinions...
  3. My close friends know that I can't pass up a bargain.... So back in February I brought home a '04 RSMV in beautiful condition. Which I didn't need 'cause I already owned a '99 and '07. But it was a bargain.... I've been getting on in years and had been watching the local CL ads for, and at, trikes. Lo and behold up pops a local ad for a set of Voyager training wheels, with two hardware set ups ,for 2 grand. So I went and looked at it... It also was in very nice condition, and by the serial number turned out to be an '06. The owner said the lowest he would go would be $1500 with the one Venture kit. So I said I'd think on it and let him know. The next day I emailed him an offer of $1200 for the Voyager with the Venture kit. He replied... "No Thanks". So for the next month and a half I kept seeing it on CL. I finally email him again and mention the $1200 offer was still good. He emailed me back to come get it... Now my trailer is 57" wide inside, the fenders of the Voyager have a 58" spread. Dang!! So no problem I load it in sideways. Getting it in was a piece of cake. Getting it off was a different matter. A tree limb, two come-along's, and lots of rope finally got it moved. So now I have a really nice '04 Midnight, and equally as nice '06 Voyager Kit. Total dollars spent.. $4200. Yep that's $3 grand for the RSMV.... Called Easy Rider to see if he had anything to do as I could really use the help putting this thing together. 2 weeks later we're wrenching. We figured it looked simple enough so we bolted the Voyager on because we were so good at figuring things out. Finished up and went to take it for a test ride. This is where it gets funny...sorta.. I ease it down on the street from the front yard. A hairy experience since I kept trying to keep it from falling over. Started down the street and less than 2 houses down I'm almost in my neighbors front living room. It traumatized me. I sat there for 10 minutes before getting up enough nerve to very slowly head it back to the front lawn. That bike was evil!! I let it sit where I parked it for two days. Meanwhile looking at installation videos on the Voyager website, talking to the factory techs, and re-reading the installation manual (which is basically worthless). Two weeks later we're at it again. This time the right way. Tweeked and adjusted everything, and bolted 'er up. And then it sat. Mind you I'm still gun shy. This morning I figured it's now or never. So I roll the bike off the lawn once more and this time it wasn't so bad. Still tilted /\, but manageable. Started down the street and made it all the way to the end of the block , turned around, and actually got some speed on the way back. It's going to work. Tomorrow I may take it for a longer ride...
  4. Name them all..... And where was it taken....?? http://cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/IMGP2622%20(Medium).JPG
  5. Yeah, but what's his nick name.....????
  6. Didn't know the Pucster had taken that one... Cool... I got it saved. MOF I think that may be the only pic of me ridin'?? OK, I'm game.... WHO'S THIS??? http://cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/IMGP2552%20(Medium).JPG
  7. Larry, you might give thought to swapping the front forks for a set off an '86+ instead of rebuilding the OEMs. That way you can install a set of R1/R6 calipers and make a big improvement in the braking dept. I did it to my '83, along with a set of Progressives, and OMG!! what a difference.
  8. Heck, I'd ask for a raise.... At least it'll give you an idea of what their plans are for the future.... The older you get the harder it'll be finding something else...?? That said by a guy that hasn't punched a time card or worked for anyone in 30 years... I love my boss!!
  9. Sometimes adjusting the idle screws will cure the popping on decel. They may be running lean. Try 3 turns out. Also are the mufflers stock or aftermarket.??
  10. Just a thought.... This all started when the battery was replaced. Yes?? Were any washers or extra power leads placed between the battery anode and the cable ends? Even a batt tender lead?? This will drop the batt amp flow down to were the starter won't even turn over. With the key in run check for dim headlight.... Could also be a bad starter solenoid???
  11. Oh Dan I'm so sorry....... NOT!! Don't worry there'll be another set along any time now. There always is....
  12. Yep, the original packing is probably gone. That's why when a few miles are put on them they'll start getting louder. The packing they use is spun glass, and the exhaust temps will slowly make the stuff brittle and break, slowly disappearing over time. I use ceramic packing and so far after 6,000 miles I can't notice any difference in the sound. The ceramic will stand a much higher temp before breaking down. As far as hurting the scoot...nope!!
  13. I bought the set I now have on the '99 from a board member who thought they were too loud, plus the tips were flaking. Turned out there wasn't a bit of packing in the baffles. Rebuilt/repacked them and they now have a very nice sound. Mellow burple at idle and a medium rumble when under load. No one has delegated me to the back of the pack yet.... Now if I could only locate a set of turndown tips for the set I just picked up from Juggler I'd be a happy camper....
  14. Grant grazing rights to a goat herder......
  15. No..no..no...... Go ahead and send it to someone who needs it... I'm burning digital nowadays... And the 'pantry' is full of 1stGen parts... And youse guys thought it was just the garage.... :rotf:
  16. Progressive might be an option, but I just remembered that I have a mint set of chrome shocks off a Harley somewhere in the garage. Saw them a couple of days ago.... I'll have to see if they'll come close. If I remember they're 13.5" with adjustable coils....
  17. Been trying to get hold of Bub Mufflers, and yesterday their website was non-op. Today their site is working but their phones and email have been disconnected. I sure hope they haven't gone belly up.
  18. Rick isn't that far off. With this drought we're in, NorCal is about to be blown away. My back yard looks like something out of the middle of Nevada. Water?? What's that...?? I went by Lake Shasta on the way back from The Dalles and it's empty. Our local water supply is just as bad, and we still have 2 1/2 months left before there's even a chance of rain. And the next time you're in town visiting Kinfolk I'll show you where to find the best burger known to the Almighty... I figure there's two types of burgers in this world. One is cheap and you eat it because you're starving and quit when you're full. The other is God food. Manna from Heaven.. Because it tastes so good, you can't stop eating... http://www.flaminggrillcafe.com/
  19. Years ago... We used to do that by putting a spark plug in the tips. It does give one an appreciation for just how much fuel we DON"T burn.....
  20. Gotta agree with you Puc. Beautiful scoot. If I were ever inclined to own a TD it'd hafta be this one. Heck I'd even put up with the mouse motor.....
  21. Ran into the same problem with the Voyager Kit on the '04. Called the factory to find out what the part # and who the maker was in order to buy them locally... hey they're just shocks... and was told they were made for some old truck, and were only made by Gabriel especially for the Voyager Co. By now youda thought they could come up with a more current style.... I'll probably take one off and run down to the local auto parts store and start comparing. I wonder if they make a small gas strut that would fit??? Hmmmm.....
  22. I could see the digital writing on the wall and dumped my darkroom equipment while it still had some value. Whew!! Now I have a pantry....
  23. Higher fence???
  24. Same thing happened with the Cycle Pro tach I mounted on the '99. In my case I failed to throw the right dip switches on the back of the PC board. So I just 2x the reading until I need to get back in there for something else. Then I'll start experimenting....
