  1. Great shirt for a great memory... Now if we could do something about the hole in that hat.....
  2. If I remember correctly hdhtr modified the reflector on his '89 with the help of Buddy Rich. Looked great. You might want to get hold of Buddy for some pointers??
  3. I want to know how the 'H' a pad can fall out of the caliper because they're loose since they're held in with a with one or two pins depending on the year... Now they might have messed with them and did compress the pistons to get the wheel back on, but within a few pumps of the lever they would have made contact again.
  4. I assume you were riding the '99... Anyway when I picked up mine the clutch fluid was so black you could have used it for ink.... I think what happens with all the Venture clutches is... it's not just a simple plug and play bleed, as the false fin has to be removed, and it can get tricky, so folks put it on the Manana list. I bet that 80% of the Ventures on the road have never have had the clutch bled because of it. Both the '07 and the '04 were getting pretty dark, but not as bad as the '99.
  5. Been using fingerless gloves for years and have no complaints in the warmer temps. Beside you get this nice oval tan on the back of your hand if you don't remember to put a little sunscreen on.... I have a pair of insulates stowed in the trunk in case it gets high altitude nippy...
  6. In that case, since you bought it new, and want to keep it that way, why don't you enlarge the pic in your gallery that shows the badge. You must have the original pic saved..... Shouldn't be that hard to figure out if it's red or black...... BTW: I enlarged this pic of an '89 and it looked kinda red to me.... http://www.cast-aways.com/vr91vs83.JPG
  7. Pull the fuel line off the tank and turn the petcock to 'on'. You should be getting fuel flow. If not it's the screen on the standpipe inside the tank. Now turn it to reserve. Same thing as above. If you're not it's the screen on the reserve inlet. You could get fuel to flow if the top of the screens are open but the bases are clogged. Either way pull the tank and clean it thoroughly. Then go buy a new petcock and install it.... If you are getting flow to the bottom of the tank then it's probably your filter which I located behind the fuel pump. and a PITA to remove...after you've moved the pump over. While your at it replace the filter and relocate it to the area underneath the saddle. Easier next time. On the air wooosh issue when removing the fuel cap. I have a few Ventures, and have never heard a wooosh. 1st or 2nd Gen. I did have a new car once that had the wooosh, but it didn't last. So I wouldn't worry about it. IMHO
  8. I've had both colors, but never paid too much attention as to what year etc.... I think if you paint it to match the maroon of the bike it would look cool....
  9. Not really, but when your mpg starts to suffer, and it feels like you're not running great, and you have a slight buzz in the grips, it's a good sign you need to get to work....
  10. Yep the numbers were on the cables. I wouldn't think there'd be that much difference between the TD and the V when it comes to throttle cables. I used to have a .pdf chart that showed all the prefixes for whatever Yamaha dreamed up, but lost it in an HD crash.... Way back when I remember a cross reference listing for all Yamaha parts, but haven't run across anything lately.... Wonder if the TD throttle cables are discontinued??
  11. That's what I'm kinda thinkin'..... I may just cut the plug off the old set of carbs and zip tie it to the new lead. Then if someone want's to hook the heater back up they can figure it out...
  12. Thanks for the reply Neil. So I take it your '99 did not have the fuel recovery valve smog stuff like the Ca.USA models, and the carb set I picked up may very well be off a low mile non/ca-'99... or later. The new set does have the same set up, but nothing going off the back to the valve... Looks like it may be time to remove the valve and start capping things off...???
  13. This has to be some sort of record. Asked for an opinion and 24 hours later not one post. Usually this is like tossing a chunk of raw meat to a pack of rabid dogs. 74 views and there should be at least 85 opinions. Maybe Puc was right???
  14. Kevin, I bought the whole set including the connector box from Pinwall, and used just one of the lowers. The one lower I have left is 4XY7E00-6107. The uppers are 1D61200-6107 and 1D61100-6107. Any idea what they came off of? They work fine.... Maybe these aren't discontinued??
  15. Yeah, it will........ on some..

  17. Ok the kid is back in school and I finally have time to wrench on the '99. She's been sitting for way too long with all the parts sitting in the wings ready to go. It's been over two years of her needing a complete fuel delivery transplant due to neglect and health issues. So after pulling the carbs, I found I had to replace them as the OEM's where toast. When I pulled them I had to cut what looked like a vacuum hose going down to the smog valve located on the frame down by the horn. Figured I'd go ahead and cap the valve when the time came. So I get this nice set of carbs from Pinwall, and #1 it isn't plumbed for the hose, and #2 out of the sensor plugs... carb heater and throttle position... the position fits but the heater is another type that's on the '99. From the condition of the carbs I'm assuming they came off a later model 2ndGen. My Question is... sorry it's taken me so long to get here.... Do later model carbs, which are not destined for California come with out fuel recovery plumbing??? And also after checking the oem heater plug I have a choice... cut and splice the oem plug onto the newer heater lead.., or remove the entire heater loom and put it on the new carb set.... or just leave it unplugged as some of the members have done??? Whatcha think??
  18. Geeze Scott, I thought this was leading up to your patch being covered by a subdivision....
  19. There were a couple of members who made their own. I think it would be right up your alley, being electrical and all.... I think that if anyone contacted Ponch he'd be willing to pass on some pointers?? If I remember the biggest problem was finding the right sized gauges....
  20. That would be cool...Huh?? I think it's really two things. The high center of gravity due to the tank position AND the fork mounted fairing... Even though the 1st's sit higher they're still more manageable.. I don't know if'n it'll help but I ordered a pair of Progressives for Seven of Nine. I'll know once I get them installed. Put a set in my first 1stGen and it was awesome....but then again it was a 1gen to begin with.... Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.. When I got the '99 I nicknamed her 'Miss Piggy'. http://www.cast-aways.com/QUICKY/misspiggy.jpg
  21. I could do all that stuff on my 1stGen...not as good as you of course .., but these 2ndGens have me befuddled on low speed handling. The sooner I can get one up above 10 knots the better... And did I ever say how much I hated gravel....
  22. Great video Puc. Now I want to see you do that on a 2-gen....
  23. Yeah, but we gots lots of parts....
  24. Ponch was the one that developed that cluster Dan. Sure do miss him....
