  1. First I've ever heard of the problem. It might have been damaged when the radiator was R&R'd in the past, or maybe front end damage?? You should be able to find another radiator on eBay for less then it would cost to buy new. Over the years I haven't seen a big demand for the 2ndGen...or 1stGen... radiators for that matter. Ergo...cheap!!
  2. I have the same problem on the trike, but for different reasons. There are a couple of aftermarket turndowns that are made to fit the RSV, but the cheapest way to go is find a set of Harley turndowns. I picked up a set NOS Harleys off eBay for a 'C' note. Famous-maker slip-on aftermarkets will put a big dent in your wallet. Ditto on the vents....
  3. LOL... It's that heat exchanger? that lays at the bottom of the Valley between the cylinder banks. It's one area where oil and coolant come pretty close. Not sure what it does other than equalize engine temps, or maybe an oil cooler?? You can blame the name 'twinkie' on me. Way back when I didn't know what to call it on the '83VR so I called it a twinkie 'cause it looked like one, and it's stuck ever since. My claim to fame!!
  4. When I bought my first RSV... a '99 w/45 thou on the ODO.. it wasn't slipping, but the DOT 4 looked blacker than the ace of spades. You could have loaded it in a pen and wrote a letter with the stuff. It had never been bled since new. So I hopped on it and got the ugly stuff and any air out. Fluid that old and dark will have a tendency to form crystals and plug the expansion hole, and that's probably one of the biggest reasons why most clutches slip. Lack of maintenance. Bleeding will sometimes clean it out...sometimes not. There's a reason why it's recommended bleeding the clutch... and brakes...every two years, and this holds true for both 1st and 2ndGens. I'm just trying to save members money, and not do what I did on my first Venture, an '83. After doing battle with a slipping clutch for over a month, and rebuilding the entire system several times, I finally found the problem. The service manual didn't mention it, and not a member of this board had a clue as to what was going on. A plugged micro expansion hole at the base of the reserve. That's why I keep preaching to check the hole first. I really wonder just how many clutches were rebuilt and didn't need to be?? My experience with VR's and RSV's..... A lot in some areas.. not so much in others, but if you want to talk clutches and brakes I'm your guy... Just attempting to pass on a few tid-bits of info.
  5. Can I assume that you're talking about an OEM rebuild kit bought from a Y dealer instead of some aftermarket kit picked up off eBay from China. Also that all slaves are rebuildable and you won't need to remove it again because the thing is FUBAR... BTW... once you get to it, R&Ring the slave is easy....
  6. I wouldn't bother rebuilding the slave. They're not that expensive and the difference between new and a rebuild kit is about $30 bucks. However.... check the expansion hole at the bottom of the clutch reserve first to see if it might be clogged and causing the slipping. IT doesn't make sense that a '99 would need anything more than a good bleed.
  7. Gotta remove the fairings to get to the front screws. I imagine it could be done, but it's a PITA... Besides it's not that hard, and makes life so much easier...

Yeah, and I've seen those videos. Stupidest things I've ever watched, but they do have an entertainment factor. They never scared me a bit... a lot of them are very funny... Heck if we got frightened after watching every idiot post on U-Tube nobody would ever ride.... I stand by the 6x10, chock, and rear ramp gate method all day long. Nothing scary about it.
  10. Thanks for the link Kev. I think it's time to pick up a set of those points. I just checked a set on the spare pump I picked up off eBay and they look pretty good, but the '99 pump is getting real quite so I think it's time to expand my 'stash' a bit...
  11. I'm not sure what a 2ndGen has because I've never had to deal with it yet, but on the 1stGen the gear indicator is located next to the clutch slave on the engine and may have a problem. You'll need to remove the middle gear cover to check it out... Maybe a 2ndGen has a different system, and if so, I'm sure someone will chime in....

On the garage he needs a garage door opener, and some padding for his head when he comes out.... On the trailer it's a fine job of over-engineering on a rarely used item, but 3.5 minutes to load a bike?? What happened to a multi-use 5x10 utility trailer with a chock mount and a rear ramp? Ride on and ride off. 30 secs on, and 30 secs off.... and no calisthenics. Whew!! Use it in between rides to make a dump run...
  13. Actually 5 of them are.... Been thinking about parting out the '93, but haven't totally made up my mind yet.
  14. Can you still find them?? or most of them....
  15. Understand your feelings Steve. I have the same problem, but I just can't seem to get rid of old friends, I just find new ones....
  16. Go get some Valvoline MC wet clutch specific 20-50w motor oil and change the engine oil. That should solve your problem.
  17. Need to call Hannigan, but I bet it's a #30.... Had to go buy one to replace the gas struts on the hatchback of my Firebird. Big sucker....
  18. Wow!! Nice find. I picked up an as new Nolan 103 NCom Helmet in my size with the Bluetooth headset installed for a 'Buy It Now' of $75 bucks with free shipping. The guy had worn it once, and he had all the docs to go along with it. Almost broke my arm hitting the bin button. Anyone else??
  19. Ya know what might be fun?? Turn this into an Ebay Gloat Thread.... What is your best eBay score that you can think of, and Gloat about it here.... Whatcha all think??
  20. True, but it still happens... Some folks just never learn..
  21. Sorry didn't look at the auction. We're fairly equal in eBay activity. I've been on since '98 and 660 transactions. I used to sell, but haven't for years. Just
  22. In the eBay world I see a lot of items selling for a buck with $20 shipping fee's. Your is still gloat-able at $7 bucks. Most eBayer's are aware of loading up the shipping practice, but my apologies for not being more enlightening....
  23. Was the shipping free.... ?? And you know the reason I'm asking....
  24. Ran my '83 with 50,000 on the odo for 3,000 miles and it didn't burn a drop. Now that's like new....
