I love quotes,,, especially those made by those close to me.. I wonder..

Looks like a twinky to me..... -
One of the real effective helmet colors is...white. Looks like a highway patrolman. Get's your attention quick. Black and white on a car does about the same thing.... It's a subconscious thing....

coolant leak?
Condor replied to azxvz1284's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Any evidence of water in the engine oil?? -
The answer to your first question is that they don't look cool and won't sell. HiViz around a job site works. On a bike, not so..... I think we all are safety conscious because we wear helmets, but we like them to come close to matching what we ride. There was one member from around Carson City NV that painted his bike yellow. He'd wear one....

Very Cool.... I've always wanted to go there.....

'EBIKA'.... Much like ebola only in most instances not airborne.....

Yep, 13.9vdc is a good thing. One of things that I ran into with the RSV is when I leave the audio on, with the bike off for a week or two, it will run the battery down. Since I've been turning it off I can fire the bike up after being neglected for a month or more. Why this is? Haven't got a clue, but something in the system must be still pulling amps??

Wow!! Happy Anniversary you two.... I'm jealous.....

I have a '91 1300 motor w/50,000 on it, that I thought I needed?? I'm in it $200 plus the gas to drive down to Bakersfield from Sacramento to pick it up. It's been sitting, but it's all there.... no carbs..... you can have it for the $200 if you think it'll help.

Much the same thing that happened to me on the '07. One day it ran fine and the next it ran like crap or not at all. I went ahead and replaced it with an OEM But I'm ready for the next one. First I picked up a cheap fuel pump with the mount off eBay, and then a set of points last week... When the points arrived I noticed they were made in Japan. So now I have a spare, and it's a piece of cake to R&R the pump. The points ran $30 bucks on my doorstep. A heck of a lot cheaper than a new OEM... And it ain't that hard to change the points.

The '83's grips were gonners when I bought the bike, so picked up a set of new foam replacements from Buckeye. Cut the old ones off, and after boiling the grips they slipped right on. They fit fine since I have such tiny hands...

my 96 rs rides to rough for my bad back
Condor replied to worm's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For what it's worth... The most comfortable long distance riding I've ever experienced is with my '83 and a large soft travel duffle mounted across the passenger seat. When I'd lean into it with feet on the highways it took pressure off my lower back, rather than supporting my lower back with a back rest. I'm not saying it the definitive answer to a bad back, but it sure made my riding pain free... -
Who's that O.F. in the Puc-pics ?? Don't look like nobody I've ever seen... And...he had his pit crew with him. Must be Rich??

I just got through watching the recording last night. I've been watching since the beginning, but I'm not too sure if this turn-around bad guy format is going to do it for me. To much blood and guts, and too many plots and subplots. I'll keep watching, but if it keeps going this direction, I'm gone....

I just received THIS in my email box this morning. It looks like Ricoh/Pentax is giving the action camera market a shot. Ricoh has always come out with some pretty nice stuff. At $300 bucks I think it'll do well. It's only available thru the Ricoh online store here in the US. I just might test the waters...down to 32'....

Help with fairing decision
Condor replied to SundayRider's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I would think that batwings would change the flow of air downward off the bottom edge of the fairing??. Maybe some aeronautical engineer will chime in with some real solid info??? -
On the boots they have a... what looks like.. a plastic sleeve on the inside. The only area that might possibly leak is up around the carb clamp where it's all rubber. That's why I just replaced those on the '99. The rubber was cracking, but it was up under the clamp that had me worried, so R&R'd them. Figured they were due...

I'm running K&N's along with a set of nasty Harley slip-ons on the '04, and it responds to the throttle in a Nano-sec. So I don't think it has anything to do with air filter, or the exhaust. My thinking it might? be something to do with the booster and timing advance??

radiator leaking at top plastic pin mount
Condor replied to paai1993's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
First I've ever heard of the problem. It might have been damaged when the radiator was R&R'd in the past, or maybe front end damage?? You should be able to find another radiator on eBay for less then it would cost to buy new. Over the years I haven't seen a big demand for the 2ndGen...or 1stGen... radiators for that matter. Ergo...cheap!! -
I have the same problem on the trike, but for different reasons. There are a couple of aftermarket turndowns that are made to fit the RSV, but the cheapest way to go is find a set of Harley turndowns. I picked up a set NOS Harleys off eBay for a 'C' note. Famous-maker slip-on aftermarkets will put a big dent in your wallet. Ditto on the vents....

LOL... It's that heat exchanger? that lays at the bottom of the Valley between the cylinder banks. It's one area where oil and coolant come pretty close. Not sure what it does other than equalize engine temps, or maybe an oil cooler?? You can blame the name 'twinkie' on me. Way back when I didn't know what to call it on the '83VR so I called it a twinkie 'cause it looked like one, and it's stuck ever since. My claim to fame!!

When I bought my first RSV... a '99 w/45 thou on the ODO.. it wasn't slipping, but the DOT 4 looked blacker than the ace of spades. You could have loaded it in a pen and wrote a letter with the stuff. It had never been bled since new. So I hopped on it and got the ugly stuff and any air out. Fluid that old and dark will have a tendency to form crystals and plug the expansion hole, and that's probably one of the biggest reasons why most clutches slip. Lack of maintenance. Bleeding will sometimes clean it out...sometimes not. There's a reason why it's recommended bleeding the clutch... and brakes...every two years, and this holds true for both 1st and 2ndGens. I'm just trying to save members money, and not do what I did on my first Venture, an '83. After doing battle with a slipping clutch for over a month, and rebuilding the entire system several times, I finally found the problem. The service manual didn't mention it, and not a member of this board had a clue as to what was going on. A plugged micro expansion hole at the base of the reserve. That's why I keep preaching to check the hole first. I really wonder just how many clutches were rebuilt and didn't need to be?? My experience with VR's and RSV's..... A lot in some areas.. not so much in others, but if you want to talk clutches and brakes I'm your guy... Just attempting to pass on a few tid-bits of info.

Can I assume that you're talking about an OEM rebuild kit bought from a Y dealer instead of some aftermarket kit picked up off eBay from China. Also that all slaves are rebuildable and you won't need to remove it again because the thing is FUBAR... BTW... once you get to it, R&Ring the slave is easy....
